Heart-wrenching.
Achingly beautiful.
That's what how I would describe the film that we've just watched. I caught a lot of different feelings from the film, and one of them is the exhilarating feeling of being in love, at least that sensation spawned from the beginning of the film. The whole roll of the film started from schoolboy lovers going forward to still being in love towards adulthood. That's the kind of love story I wanted to have. Unfortunately, it's already too late for me to have that because I'm on my way to destroy the one and only candidate that can give me that kind of love story. I believed Dominic when he said that he really fell in love with me in high school, and it would've been so romantic and fulfilling if we stayed in love throughout college until now that we're adults.
Sometime in the middle of the film, I realized that I was already holding Dominic's hand as he found security and comfort from resting his head on my shoulder. If he quickly found that sense of comfort and safety in me, I found a sense of romance. The spur of the moment made me want just to kiss him and hold him tighter than ever. The human contact didn't fail to make me feel warmer and a lot less lonely that I've made a quick decision to savor this moment while it lasts. After I break him, I just realized that it would take some time, most definitely years, for me to find someone that I will love. Someone who deserves to love and be loved. Someone whom I know will love me without the intention of hurting me.
By the time we rolled to the scene where Tim had asked John for a kiss at the beach, I was already thinking of kissing Dominic. I have to admit that I missed his mouth. I missed how he tasted so much like strawberries and cigarettes all at once. When he moved away to grab a can of beer, I deliberately called for his attention.
"Can I kiss you?" I uttered, looking straight into the windows of his soul.
"Wha..." He paused, almost like a wild deer in headlights, but then he immediately realized what I'm trying to do, and he opened his mouth to speak. "Give it a go," He finally replied.
I cupped his face and slowly moved my face near him until I was already plastering my lips to his with such tardy motion. One smooch, just a simple suck on his upper lip, and I'm perfectly satisfied, so I moved a few inches away without disrupting our eye contact. He looked at me with such unsatisfied intent and moved his face back, and we kissed once again. I thought he's just going to give me a normal kiss similar to what I gave him, and we'll go back and continue watching the film, but he was getting a little bit aggressive than what I expected. His tongue snaked inside my mouth, and I responded to that just as I would. I held the back of his head and began reciprocating his aggressive energy. I'm starting to taste the meat sauce of the pizza from his mouth, and I'm sure he's starting to taste the very same thing from mine.
"I'm so sorry," Dominic unclasped from the kiss and looked away as he apologized.
"Yeah, I'm sorry too." I replied as I mustered a deep sigh. I got carried away with that.
"I got carried away,"
"Me, too. We should go back to the film." I suggested, and he grabbed the can of beer he was supposed to get a while ago before I interrupted him for a kiss.
There's a few bits of awkward silence floating like glitter in the air when we went back to watching the film, but it quickly dissolved to extinction when we found back our focus. I purposely held his hand again, slowly interlacing my fingers within the space of his; this time, I was the one resting my head on his shoulder.
We stayed like that until the film rolled to an end, and we're left crestfallen yet somehow happy at the very same time. As the film credits rolled at the big screen in front of us, we were both breathing quietly. I'm going to make a guess that he's digesting the ending of the film as much I do. It felt sad and tragic; however, death is always the end of every single walk of life on this planet. It's one of the permanent things that we don't want, but we will eventually get.
"So, where are we heading next?" I asked, finally stepping up to usurp the reign of silence.
"I don't know," Dominic replied, almost cold.
"Do you want to go to the beach?"
"It's still eleven." He took a quick glimpse of his watch. "Why not! I haven't been to the beach for such a very long time." He turned to me and then smiled.
We waited for a few moments for the car parked behind us to leave before I eventually started the engine and began driving towards the beach. Dominic stayed quiet for the rest of the thirty-minute drive that the only sound I can hear is the sound of the engine. It has come to my conclusion that he was left crestfallen by the film and wanted some time to digest it. It was just a film. I wanted to tell him that, just to deviate his attention and redirect it towards me, but I remembered the film is based on a memoir. I left him like that until we finally arrived at the beach.
The beach continued to be strikingly beautiful from what I've remembered. It's already midnight, but the beauty of this body of water rises from how the waves splash towards the sandy shore. The company of the moon and stars watching over from above makes the scenery even more striking. The fresh gushing of the wind felt so much relaxing that it almost took away every single shit inside my head.
"I've missed the beach," Dominic uttered, and before I even realize it, he was already barefoot outside.
I rushed and removed my shoes before eventually stepping out of the car. The sand under my bare feet felt extra cool that it almost gave me the feeling of serenity at its finest. I haven't felt this in such a very long time. The sound of the waves crashing into shore seemed like an incessant symphony to my ears.
"Hey, wait for me!" I screamed aloud at Dominic as he was already walking far towards the beach. I grabbed the remaining cans of beer and staggered to follow Dominic's footsteps.
I had to stop in order to catch my breath for a moment before eventually staggering back on track. It's quite hard to run on this sandy shore. My feet sink every time I take a step. Dominic was already sitting down on the floor when I caught up to him.
"Do you remember when we first got to this beach?" Dominic spoke when I finally sat down beside him.
"That was my first time going to a beach ever," I replied, and the vibe of that old memories swept over me. I was this excited, like a kid getting loose at the toy store, that I ran quickly to the shore.
"I feel like this is my first time going to the beach." Dominic said, staring idly at the dark veil splattered with blinking diamonds laid in front of us. I opened and handed him a can of beer, and he quickly took a gulp from it.
"Well, I only went to this very specific beach my whole life." I trailed. This is probably the fifth time that I've been here. The first time was with Dominic, and the rest that followed was with my family and friends. "I've never been to other beaches before."
"But you've been with a lot of bitches before," Dominic voice out and looked at me with a serious piercing look and then subsequently shifted into a burst of wild, infectious laughter. "Hahaha,"
"Hahaha," I got pulled by his laughter.
I thought it was going to feel awkward for a second after he said that, but it actually didn't feel that way. It felt like a good old read coming from a special place of love. I didn't even feel bad at all. Dominic's smile never fails to take me somewhere, but this time, his laughter has traces of something elaborately different. It felt like he hasn't laughed genuinely like this for such a very long time. It also felt like he'd been lonely for the longest time.
"Thank you for this," Dominic blurt out as soon as he ceased from letting out his infectious laughter.
"For what?" I asked as if I didn't know what he was thanking me for.
"For making this day memorable," He continued. "I know it's my birthday but I haven't celebrated a birthday this memorable in my twenty-four years of existence."
"Memorable huh," I replied but in an almost inaudible tone.
In a brisk swerve of moment, it registered to me that I just shot three birds with one stone. One, I've surprised Dominic, and it's a perfect home run. Two, he asked me on a date. It was quite sudden and unexpected, but here we are on a date. Three, this is going to be precisely memorable to him.
"Hey, let's make this even more memorable." I spat at him with the right tone of encouragement.
"Wha? What do you mean?" He asked in confusion. I gulped the rest of my beer before eventually standing up to strip.
I unbuttoned my suit and my shirt until I was topless.
"This suit is expensive but whatever," I shrugged and draped the suit along with the shirt on the beach floor.
"What are you doing, Valentine?"
I didn't reply to his inquiry. I started unbuckling my belt, and soon I was already wearing nothing but briefs. Dominic chuckled and then stood up and started stripping as well until we were both wearing nothing but our undergarments. The wind kept on brewing, but it didn't even feel cold. Perhaps it's because we already had too much beer that the alcohol inside our body is keeping our temperature warm enough to get naked in this chilly environment.
"I don't want this to get wet," I said and pulled down my briefs, subsequently letting the snake in hiding to let loose.
"I guess I don't want mine to get wet as well," Dominic uttered, and he pulled his undergarment down as well.
We were now both naked for the whole beachfront to witness.
"Ahhhhh," I screamed throughout the shore and held Dominic's hand as we ran towards the water.
We were like some free teenagers skinny-dipping on a hidden lake somewhere in the depths of the forest. Dominic sent a splash of water over that hit me in the face. So he wants some splash war, huh! I sent a splash back to him, and thus we commenced into a splash fight. We dipped and kissed and teased each other for over an hour until we eventually felt the chills and decided to get off the water. The cold chills of the wind became harsh that it forced us to shiver in pain. It urged us to change faster that we didn't care if we get sand inside our clothes. This is my first-time skinny-dipping, and somehow it felt fun.
We ended up smoking a cigarette inside my car in order for us to gain a little bit of heat. I didn't expect that this day will turn out to be exceedingly memorable, even for me. The surprise was expected just as planned, but what came after was this, and I'm pretty sure this memory will be locked in our memory boxes for good.
With a few cans of beer left, we continued our drinking session as we shared some funny stories until we fell asleep.
