It's already been two days since the last time I saw Dominic, and I'm beginning to get itchy. It's not that I wanted to see him so bad, but it's because I'm getting psyched up. After that calculated surprise, I did not expect that he'd ask me out and perhaps that's certainly how I secured Dominic. My already growing confidence just went through the roof, and it's even reaching the fever of certainty. It's pretty much a guarantee that I'm going to snowball towards snatching my own revenge.
A small part of me wants to spend my day off with Dominic, but I still chose to keep my distance for a while. I know I'm doing a great job and as much as I wanted to finish this plot, I'm still trying to be careful. I must admit that I'm starting to get the feeling of warmth with Dominic. His natural charms and the small feelings that I have left seemed to be working against my favor, and I don't want that to destroy me.
"So, how was your date with Dominic?" Ivana asked, beginning to open the floor of conversation as we both walked towards my office. We were about to have our lunch, and we just came from the kitchen with plates of food in our hands.
"Yeah, it was okay. It's still a date" I replied, acting like nothing extra-ordinary happened.
"Vaaaal," Ivana gave me a piercing look. That look meant she's trying to force me to say something about our date. Although the date went great, a part of me wanted to keep the details for myself. When we were skinny dipping in the darkness of the beach, I saw how genuinely happy Dominic was. I've never seen him resonate such radiant emotion. It felt like it's the happiest moment of his life, and even his laugh was ringing pure innocence.
"Well, it was memorable." I spat, almost hesitant.
"Oh, that's very interesting. I think I would like to hear the juicy details." Ivana trailed as we both settled down at the extra table.
"Nah, I'm not going to tell you anything."
"Ah! Did you two have sex?" Ivana gasped, pointing her finger at me. "Tell me, you did not have sex with Dominic."
"We didn't. Yes, we kissed and cuddled but nothing past that happened." I replied in a flash, quickly reassuring her that nothing happened.
"Hmmm," Ivana sounded as if she didn't believe me and stared at me for a moment before eventually giving up. "Okay, I'll believe you."
"I'm telling the truth."
"And I said I believed you,"
"This salmon looks good," I said in my attempts to redirect the conversation to a different topic.
"I don't really like eating raw food but this is immaculate," Ivana admitted as she took a slice of the raw salmon and put it in her mouth.
"Oh, it's melting inside my mouth." I trailed after eating a slice.
"So what happened then?" Ivana suddenly asked again. She's really trying her best to outwit me with this, but I know her, she'll be stubborn with it. I thought I've swayed her to talk about something else.
"Okay, fine! I'm going to tell you." I decided just to tell her. I just knew she'd be persistent and I don't want her to spend her break bothering me with the same questions for the next twenty minutes. And I'm not down to redirecting her attention to some other things in the next twenty minutes as well. "We went to a drive-in cinema,"
"Wow, a drive-in cinema? That's romantic!" She squealed. "I wish someone would take me to a drive-in cinema,"
"Well, then you might have to start fishing. There's plenty of fish in the water."
"So what happened next?"
"And then we decided to go to the beach," I continued. And I'm right; she will always go back to that no matter how I try to change the topic.
"Aaaaand?" Ivana glued her attention to me as though she's a kid on a trick or treat.
"And we dipped naked, played with the water."
"Ahuh,"
"That's it," I spat.
"That's it?" Ivana uttered in complete disappointment.
"Yes. I told you nothing happened."
"Well at least the surprise is over and I'm glad that our plan worked exactly the way we envisioned it," Ivana said while grabbing her bottle of water. "I think you're right. You don't need a plan B, not even a plan C."
"Now you see what I'm saying,"
"Yup. But just don't get too confident, you still have to be careful." Ivana trailed after drinking water. "You just hit two birds with one stone, as they say."
"Oh, that's where you're wrong,"
"Huh?"
"I've hit three birds with one stone," I babbled, correcting her.
"What?"
"The surprise, Dominic asking me on a date and me making the date memorable. That's a total of three." I explained.
"Oh yeah. Why did I forget about that?" She uttered and continued eating. "By the way, what's the next step?" She asked.
"Seduce him and leave him hanging." I spat. I memorized the whole list, so I don't have to look at it every time.
"Oh, that's exciting."
"Yeah,"
"But why didn't you do that when you two went on your date?" Ivana asked.
"Good question, Ivana." I trailed. "I'm already satisfied with the three checkmarks that I got in a single day. I'm not sure it's a wise thing to do" It's true that I can easily pull that off, but it's just too much for a single day. You know when you go drinking at 8 in the evening, and then 8 hours later you're still drinking, but then you suddenly collapsed because your body can't take the amount of alcohol. That's what went inside my head.
"Aren't you excited to destroy him?" Ivana asked, and I paused for a moment. Of course, I'm excited to get my own revenge, but I just have to admit that I'm enjoying Dominic's company.
"I am but I'm worried that I'm driving the car a little bit faster," I replied.
"So you want to take things slow now huh?"
"Exactly,"
We finished eating our meal and nothing much happened after that except that we talked about unimportant things. She told me baby Axelle just said his first word and she's a little bit disappointed that it's not mama. It's actually a cookie, and I thought that's great, at least he didn't say, papa. That would be a lot more upsetting to hear for Ivana. God knows how much he wanted to kill that bastard. And who the hell invented this unspoken rule that babies should say mama as their first word?
We took a ten-minute rest after eating before eventually returning to work. This day has been extra productive for me. I was able to finish most of my reports, and by the end of this day, I'll be finishing all of them. Perhaps the fact that I've got Dominic secured right in the center of the palm of my hands made this productivity happen. I wasn't thinking about Dominic at all. I didn't have to think about anything but my job. I'm not even stressing myself about how would I execute the next plan.
Seduce him and leave him hanging.
The next step is quite as easy as flipping a coin. I already know how to take Dominic and seducing him is just a piece of cake.
I went home straight after work, and I wasn't even surprised to see Vincent again. He's been going home more often now than the last few years. He was cooking something when I stepped inside the house; the smell of seafood instantly infiltrated my nostrils. Yhannie's also here, and she's busy tapping on her phone on the couch.
"What are you cooking?" I yelled as I inched my way towards the kitchen.
"The usual," He replied.
"Oh," I said a little bit disappointed. "What happened to your lip?" I asked as soon as I caught a glimpse of his cracked lip.
"I got into a fight," He replied.
"Again?" I uttered. "This is like the third time that I've seen you with a broken lip, if not you have a broken nose. You're starting to get ugly." I'm starting to get curious about what's going on with Vincent. He isn't the violent type of person that I know, and I'm beginning to doubt my knowledge of him. Have we really distanced ourselves from each other that I don't know anything about him anymore?
"What happened to him?" I whispered, asking Yhannie instead.
"He got into a fight with my ex," Yhannie replied quickly.
"What?"
"It's a long story,"
"Well, I don't want to hear it anyway." I spat and ushered myself to my room. I took a quick shower, and by the time I was slipping on some comfortable clothes, I heard my phone ringing.
I snatched my phone and saw that Dominic's calling.
"Hey," Dominic opened seemingly shy.
"Hey," I replied, imitating him.
"What are you doing right now?" He asked and judging by the way he talked; it's pretty much evident that he misses me. I don't even blame him for that. It's been two days since the last time we saw each other.
"I just got home from work,"
"How was work?"
"Well, it's very much productive. I finished a lot of reports that have been left from last week,"
"You're really working hard, eh."
"Not really," I spat. "What about you? What are you doing right now?"
"Nothing, just thinking about you," Dominic replied and I couldn't help myself but smile. I let out an inaudible chortle and laid on my bed facing the ceiling.
"You already miss me huh?"
"It's just been two days but yes, I do miss you," Dominic said and didn't even try to deny it.
"I miss you too," I replied.
We talked nonsense for about five minutes before I heard Aunt Katya yelling for Dominic. We had to bid a temporary goodbye to each other as they are about to have their dinner. I decided to go downstairs and check if Vincent's finished cooking, and by the time I got to the kitchen, they were about to call me.
