The plane just landed, and I noticed the sky isn't feeling well today. As soon as I was out of the airport, I called Ivana and asked her to buy some flowers. I told her to meet me at Dominic's house. Judging by her high-pitched tone, she was excited, but she didn't bother to ask any questions. If Ivana was feeling excited, then how about me? I don't know what's the highest word for too excited, but I am feeling its highest form, and I am in love with all its titillation. My heart won't stop from making my legs tremble even after I booked a cab straight towards Dominic's house. I was a little bit worried that I might stumble into traffic since it just rained, and I was exactly right. We passed by an unfortunate car accident, and it definitely happened a few hours ago, from the looks of it. We only saw lots of blood, but there are no bodies to be seen. The victims are probably in the hospitals by now.
I was already a few kilometres away from Dominic's house when I got a call from Ivana. She's with College, and they're on their way to a hospital. I was confused and immediately asked why and she revealed what happened. I was expecting Ivana to call about my location, but I was crushed when she told me that Dominic was in the hospital. Ivana was more than concerned, as she has always been. She was precise when she told me what happened and which hospital. I got agitated all of a sudden, and I think I almost screamed at the driver when I instructed him to switch routes towards Saint Vincent.
It was a lot to take in. My head was just basking in the excitement of finally seeing Dominic after all the shenanigans, and this shit happens. It never crossed my mind, but that car accident that we passed by actually involved Dominic. I was on the verge of tears while sitting impatiently in the backseat of the cab.
"Why?" My head was filled with so many questions involving the question, why?
"Why does it have to be Dominic?"
"Why is this happening to me?"
"Why am I continuously being mistreated by life?"
"Just why?"
I feel like my head's about to explode. My heart ticked faster and faster. I'm beginning to get the feeling that if I don't reach the hospital in time, my heart will explode into bits and pieces. What if this is the last time that I'll be with Dominic? I immediately shook the negative thought away and tried to hope for the best. When I got to the hospital, Ivana met me at the lobby and quickly revealed to me that Dominic's condition is stable and there's not much to worry about. The revelation quickly eliminated most of the questions and assumptions that were formed inside my mind, and I was somehow relieved.
We staggered towards Dominic's private room, where I was immediately met by Dominic's mom just outside. She quickly hugged me super tight as if we haven't seen each other in years, and that's when she eventually confessed that they were just making things up to prevent me from seeing Dominic. She was sobbing even after I told her that I'm okay with all of the things she did.
I had every single right to get angry at Dominic's mom for making things difficult, but I felt different. I guess I'll have to thank her for letting me realize how much I love Dominic. The anticipation of wanting to see and feel Dominic made me do things that I didn't know I can do by myself. I travelled alone all the way across the pond. I walked the streets of a foreign country alone and never got lost. And I'm pretty much confident that I've earned the right to be Dominic's man forever.
Aunt Katya finally invited us inside the room, and my eyes shed tears the moment I saw the unconscious Dominic. He has some stitches on his head, and his arm is broken. I felt weak as my feet dragged my body towards the bed. I hugged his body and started crying. I mumbled things like "I'm sorry," and "I love you", but I don't quite recall some of the other things that I said because things began to feel fuzzy. I had to stop crying, so I won't get him wet.
Aunt Katya and College were all present and attentively listened when I told Ivana about my little adventure. I was shy to tell it at first, but I came to realize that these are the people that are going to be part of my future. I don't need to hide or be shy around them. They were all shocked by my story, and honestly, if I am in their shoes, I would be too.
There was a moment when Dominic's mom pulled me aside and gave me the blessing to stay and watch over Dominic for the rest of the night, which I definitely agreed to. She doesn't even need to ask because, either way, I'm going to stay right here until my love regains his consciousness back. It was already eleven in the evening when Aunt Katya and College left.
I pulled the lonely chair right beside the table where Ivana laid the flowers and chocolates, and I immediately felt pain. I can still feel the draining fatigue from that long flight. I had to stand up and stretch my arms and legs before sitting down. I held Dominic's fine arm and kissed it with such tenderness.
"I'm really sorry for everything," I babbled out. "I really do. I realized that I love you more than anything else in this lifetime. I promise I won't hurt you anymore. From this point on, I'm going to love you like the clouds hug the rain. I'm going to love you like a bee's eagerness to find nectar."
I kept on talking while holding Dominic's hand but all of the accumulated physical and emotional exhaustion finally made its decision to let me fall asleep right beside Dominic.
Morning came faster than I wished and I woke up still feeling tired and heavy. My neck was so stiff that I had to let out a loud groan just to adjust from the pain. I was still holding Dominic's hand, and I was electrified to feel his hand squeeze mine.
"Dominic?" I piped in such exhilaration. "Are you awake? Hey! Dominic!" I stood up and looked straight at Dominic's face with my bloodshot eyes and unkempt hair. I thought he was still unconscious at first, but then he started giggling.
"You're so loud. You woke me up!" Dominic teased.
"Thank god you're awake!" I squealed and hugged him.
"Awwww. Careful, I still have injuries."
"Oh, sorry! I'm sorry!"
"You look awful Valentine!" Dominic confessed, and I can't help but agree and laugh with him. I fished my phone and used it as a mirror to try and fix my awfulness.
"You look awful too!" I jested while combing my hair with my fingers.
"And you smell like shit." Dominic volleyed back.
"Oh," I said and paused to check myself. I really do smell like shit. "I might have to take a shower later."
We were both teasing and laughing at each other as if nothing had happened between us. There was probably a moment of silence before Dominic began to sound serious.
"I'm glad that you're here Valentine! I missed you like crazy!" He was looking at me straight in the eye, and I can feel how true his words were.
"I missed you too, Dominic." I replied, and in a flash, I quickly thought this was the best time to ask him to be my man.
There's no other best time other than this time. I must ask him now. I don't want another almost for the third time. I want this to happen now.
"Uhm, Dominic?" I started.
"Yes?"
"I want to tell you something," I spat, and my heart began to pump faster. I can feel the adrenaline rushing inside me.
"I also want to tell you something," Dominic replied.
"Oh, okay. You go first." I said, feeling a bit thrown by him.
"No, it's okay. You go first." Dominic spat back.
"What do you want to tell me?" I asked in such curiosity.
"Okay, I'll go first." Dominic trailed, and I suddenly felt something weird. I got nervous, and there's a little rush of panic inside me.
"Wait! I'll go first." I yelped.
"No, I'll go first." Dominic quaked before someone broke our endless exchange of you go firsts by carelessly opening the door that it slammed against the wall.
I turned my head and saw Yhannie. She must've been worried too.
"Dominic!" She cried and rushed to hug Dominic pushing me aside.
"Oh bitch!" Dominic began.
"I came here as soon as your mom told me," Yhannie spat.
She was about to steal my spotlight, starting to get herself comfortable by pulling the chair; I had to stop her.
"Hold up! Don't steal my thunder Yhannie!" I began. "We're both having a serious moment here."
"Val!" Dominic chirped. I can tell Yhannie was surprised that I was here, but she was obedient and moved a little bit away from Dominic.
"Dominic," I mustered a deep breath. "I...I don't know how to say this." I continued still picking that momentum. My knees are beginning to tremble, but I'm trying my best to be cool.
"Just say it Valentine!" Dominic spat, and I guess that was my cue.
"Dominic, I want you to know that I love you more than anyone else in this lifetime. I want to live with you for the rest of my life. I want to put a smile on your face whenever you're sad. I want to put you to bed when you have too much to drink." I paused, thinking of what other things to say, but Yhannie's giggling reaction was throwing me off. I decided to brush her presence away as I continued. "Dominic Warren, will you... fuck"
I forgot the ring. I started frisking my pocket for the ring, and I remembered it's still somewhere inside my suitcase. I pulled my suitcase in such a hurry and quickly pulled everything out until I found the ring.
"Ahem..." I cleared my throat just to brush some of the embarrassment that I got from not preparing the ring. I know this was awkward and hilarious, but I'm already here. I casually went on my knees and revealed the ring. "Dominic Warren, will you marry me?"
"Valentine," I heard a quick reply from Dominic. I was looking at him straight in the eye, and I saw him shed a tear. "I'm sorry Valentine but.....but I'm going to say yes! Yes, I want marry you! I want to grow old with you!" Dominic cried, and I felt incredible. I pulled the ring out of the box and slowly inserted it on his finger.
"Phewwww!! Pheeeewwww!! Pheeeewwww!!!" Jeannie started creating this loud and wild sound right after I put the ring on Dominic's finger. I looked at her, and she was actually recording us. For a second, I thought of grabbing her phone, but then she moved away to get a better view of us. "Someone's about to get married! Yieeee!" She screamed before eventually shutting her camera off.
"I love you," I moved closer towards Dominic and eventually kissed him. He kissed me back with a bite on my lip, and since I missed this kiss for a long time, my tongue began to snake its way inside his mouth.
"That's enough," Dominic said, pushing my neck away from his face.
"What? That's only Yhannie." I muttered, trying to convince him to disregard Yhannie's presence.
"I know but I still have to tell you something," Dominic trailed.
"What is it, mi amore?" I asked.
"Do you have your phone with you?"
"I do but my battery is drained."
"Hey Yhannie, can I borrow your phone?"
"Uhm, sure." Yhannie handed her phone to Dominic.
"This is hard for me to do alone and I'm glad that you're here with me." Dominic began. I was more than intrigued by this. I pulled the chair away from Yhannie and sat beside Dominic. I watched as he logged in on his email with one hand.
"You're making me nervous." I huffed.
"Promise me you will still marry me after this." Dominic looked at me.
"What are you talking about? Of course I'd still marry you whatever happens."
"Promise me,"
"I promise!" I raised my hand and looked at him in the eye just to give him assurance.
"Several weeks ago I went to the doctor and I was tested for HIV and up until now, I haven't checked the results yet."
"Oh, then what are you waiting for let's check it!"
Dominic paused for a while, and I had to do something; as his future husband, I had to make sure he feels calm and assured that I am here. I've been through difficult challenges just to get here, and now that I have my man with me, I am not letting anything come in between us.
"Let me help you," I spat. I grabbed the phone with my right arm and held his hand with my left. "Let's read it together,"
We both read the result, and as soon as we saw the word non-reactive, Dominic let out a crispy curse.
"Oh fuck! Fuck!" He trailed.
"So what did the result say?" Yhannie spat, and we didn't pay her any attention.
"Thank you, lord."Dominic gasped in a breath of relief. He gave me a seductive gaze and thenpulled my head, and the next thing I know, I was already torridly kissing myfuture husband, Dominic mother******* Warren.
