A week passed without any incidents, no dramatic fall outs or professed dying love. Just the same in and out routine they'd obeyed for all these years. It was a Monday morning, with bright weather that hung high in the sky, passively hidden by the few scattered clouds. Mr Gates was the last in the classroom, carrying a stack of papers in one hand and cup of steamy coffee in the other.
He was back to not caring about his students sitting on top of the desks or talking obnoxiously loud. It must've been the lack of enthusiasm for the bus ride ahead. Token was perched on Tweek's desk, invading his personal space, but also trapping him in with no escape. "I had a conversation with Bebe last week."
"And?" Tweek wondered, his voice groggy from the lack of sleep he'd had.
"Heidi told her, Kayla Darson has some weird crush on you, or something."
Tweek chewed the inside of his lip, looking around the room until his eyes landed on Kayla's golden hair. "Ngh, no. Not happening." He shook his head.
"Why not?" Token frowned, swinging his legs around to view his friend better. "You need to start putting yourself out there, dude."
Long fingers found the nape of his neck, tugging at the messy blonde hair there. "Easy for you to say, you've been with Nicole since you were kids."
"I'll help you, consider me your guide." Token waved his hands down his frame. "An older figure of the sort."
"I'm older than you."
"It's a figure of speech."
Craig dropped down in the seat next to Tweek, with his hand curling into a fist to gently punch the blonde in the arm, making his presence known, though it wasn't as though Tweek hadn't been eying him the entire time. "What're we talking about?" Craig sniffed.
"Tweek's love life." Token answered, looking smug from his higher position on the table.
"Oh yeah?" Craig asked, his brow slightly raised as he looked at his friend. "I didn't realise he had one."
"We weren't." Tweek protested. "And I don't."
"He's going to ask Kayla Darson out."
"No, I'm not!"
Token's hand reached down to cover a portion of Tweek, excluding him from the conversation, only until Tweek slapped his hand away, his face menacing. "I was telling him, like a good friend who only has his best interests at heart, that he should give the whole dating thing a shot." Token informed. "Wouldn't you agree?"
Craig chewed at his thumbs nail, looking as passive as ever, whilst he stared towards the other students. "Yeah, for sure. Just don't follow his advice."
"Excuse me, but who's been in a relationship for nearly three years?"
"On and off." Craig argued. "From an outsiders perspective, you're more like best friends than boyfriend and girlfriend."
"Shut up."
Tweek felt bad. Sure he agreed with Craig, but he'd never say so out loud. At the same time, he was glad the topic was away from himself and Kayla. Mr Gates cleared his throat from the front of the room. Most of the chatter diminished aside from a few at the back, with Wendy's voice being the most recognisable.
"Our bus has arrived, but first I need to make sure everyone is here."
Tweek hated this part, the dreaded rush that came with having to answer a simple 'here, or yes'. His hands were clammy, too hot for his liking, and he had to subtly shake them in attempt to get some air to them, all the while, Craig watched from his seat.
He never understood how someone could get so panicked over such simple things. He never experienced that painful tingle shooting through his body, or the trembling hands hidden beneath a table. When his name was called, he easily answered with an uninterested 'yeah' before watching Tweek squirm, realising his time would be soon after.
Tweek tried to wet his lips, hearing Heidi's name being called next, but his mouth was just too goddamn dry, so painfully dry. His heart hammered at the sound of his own name, his fingers tightening around the edges of his desk whilst his parched lips hesitated.
Upon feeling something roughly kick at his shoe, he paused, looking over at Craig but he wasn't looking back. His gaze was fixated on the desk as he called out with a similar reply to his own, answering for his friend.
Tweek breathed, turning from Craig, to the teacher, noticing he was already moving onto the next name. His eyes slid closed as he regained his cool, not that he had any to begin with, before looking back over to meet eyes with Craig and offering up a little nod of appreciation. Craig went back to picking at the table, and as Tweek turned to face the front, all he could focus on was the slight pressure of the shoe pressing comfortably against his own.
