By the time lunch arrived, Tweek was feeling overly fatigued. His study capability was off balanced, so coming back to school during the most work focused period, was a little overwhelming. Still, he'd managed this far, and as he strolled into the cafeteria, with Token a step in front, his eyes downcast towards his shoes as he counted each step he took.
As they made their way over to their usual table, Token talked over his shoulder to Tweek, though it wasn't as though the blonde was even listening. His mind had wandered when his friend began to talk about who he was going to take to their senior prom. It wasn't something Tweek wanted to think about yet, considering they had plenty of time for that.
The two of them sat opposite one another, both with a packed lunch from home. The light blue container Token had, was filled to the brim with his moms homemade lasagna. She preferred to cook a meal for her son. At least then, she knew he was getting something decent, rather than the slop they served at school.
When Tweek peered into the contents of the brown-paper bag his own mom had left out for him, he was utterly disappointed to see a thin, sad excuse of a sandwich. His jealous eyes slowly moved from his own meal, across to Token's in envy.
"Oh man," Token chuckled with a mouth full of food. "That looks tasty."
Rolling his eyes, Tweek inspected the inside of his sandwich. There was a skinny piece of ham, with an equally thin piece of cheese. "Ugh, look!" He said, leaning over the table to show Token what he'd discovered. "It's the driest sandwich I've ever seen!"
"It's not that bad." Token lied, stirring his food with a shiny fork. "You can put some of my lasagna in it."
"Gross." Tweek scoffed, upturning his nose at the offer. "Lasagna, ham and cheese sandwich."
"Scrape the ham and cheese out, then you have a lasagna sandwich."
For a moment, Tweek was considering the idea. It had to be better than what he'd originally been given, but then as Clyde sat down beside Token, he'd completely forgotten all about his distaste, and took a bite out of his sandwich.
All of the attention was now on the newcomer, as he wiped the sweat from his forehead with an unhappy grumble. "Dude," Token grimaced as he moved his food away. "No offence, but you stink."
"Tell me about it." Clyde huffed, withdrawing a plastic fork from seemingly nowhere, before leaning over to stab it into Token's dish. As he chewed, with Token looking entirely unamused, a look of disgust crossed Clyde's face. "Ew, it's cold."
"Yeah, no shit. Get your own lunch." Token replied, once again, moving it further away. "Anyway, why do you smell so bad?"
"Coach is in a bad mood, so he made the team do laps for an entire hour." Clyde said, shaking his head. "Then, if anyone was caught talking, he made them do a set of sit ups."
"So, you were caught talking?" Tweek curiously asked.
"Three times." Clyde nodded. If he'd had the chance to do it again, he probably would. Both he and Stan were having a heated debate over which Spider-Man was the best. Clearly Stan lacked the loyalty for original casting, and so Clyde found it his duty to educate him on the subject. "What've you guys been up to?"
"....I have a dilemma." Token admitted after a moments pause, with his eyes remaining glued to his food. "Nicole says she wants me to take her to the prom."
"You're not going to, are you?"
"I don't know, should I?"
"No." Both Clyde and Tweek answered at the same time.
"She said she wanted to start again." Token mumbled. "But I'm not sure I want to."
"She's the one who broke up with you." Tweek reminded with a quiet voice. "And... it seems to me like she's only wanting you back, now that you're doing good without her."
"Tweek's right." Clyde agreed. "But hey, if you're worried about who to take to prom, Bebe is trying to set her friend up with someone."
"Not interested."
The table fell into silence as the group continued to eat. Though not for long when Craig dropped down into the seat beside Tweek with a frown. He'd just received a detention for not handing his work in on time, but in his defence, he'd completely forgotten about it.
"Need help removing that stick from your ass?" Clyde snickered to himself, proud at his comment.
"No," Craig grumbled in reply. "I can reach it myself."
"What's up, anyway?"
"Nothing new."
"Oh, well in that case," Clyde began, inspecting the dirt beneath his short nails. "I have a proposition."
"Go on..."
"How would you feel about letting me stay at your place for a a couple of days?"
"Why?" Craig raised an eyebrow.
"My dad's seeing this woman from work and he's bringing her over." Clyde sighed, glancing around the table as each member avoided eye contact. "I wouldn't ask, but with my moms anniversary coming up..."
"Yeah, no..." Craig replied, tapping his foot beneath the table. "You can stay. I can't promise that Ruby won't force you to hang out with her, though."
"I don't mind." Clyde smiled gratefully. His eyes flickered across the cafeteria as his teammates strolled in, then in an instant, he was back to sharing Token's food.
Beside Craig, Tweek shuffled in place. He'd finished his unappetising sandwich, and was now left to wait for the others to finish. Absent minded, Tweek's fingers played beneath the table as they rested on his lap. It was a means to amuse himself, in the slightest way possible as he became increasingly bored. The last thing he'd expected, though, was for Craig's finger to sneak over, playfully wiggling against his own.
It reminded him of the night they sat there, watching a movie. Back when Tweek's memories had been lost. A slight smile tugged on the corner of his lips as he peered over at Craig, and unexpectedly, Craig grinned back.
The sight was enough to make Tweek speechless as he stared in awe, and when Craig shuffled Tweek's hand into his, it felt as though his heart was going to stop right then. Even though their hands were hidden beneath the table, out of sight from any prying eyes, Tweek didn't all that mind. He liked this new side of Craig. The one that showed affection in small gestures, such as this. He liked the feeling of a warm hand firmly holding his own, but most importantly, he liked that it was Craig.
Suddenly, Tweek was no longer bored. He could sit here all afternoon if that meant being able to hold Craig's hand longer. But sadly, he couldn't, and soon enough the other two had finished their meal. And then, much to Tweek's anguish, they were standing up, leaving the place Tweek wished to be the most, because when Craig's hand slipped away from his own, he strangely began to miss a person who was standing right by his side.
