Putting on a fake smile, David said, "Fine. If you're confident, I won't say more. I'll wait for your good news."
Elianna snorted coldly. "Get me the best doctor. I need to recover quickly so I can see him."
David nodded. "Of course. You're my precious girl. I'll find you the best."
Elianna looked down on him in her heart, but kept her face calm as she walked upstairs.
Meanwhile, at the Campbell Group CEO's Office. Yosef had learned that it was Elianna who had made Skylar take the blame five years ago. That was why Skylar had suddenly disappeared, and why he couldn't find her.
Elianna was far more scheming than he had thought. He could no longer see any trace of the girl she used to be.
He ordered his people to re-investigate what had happened back then and instructed someone to keep a close watch on Elianna.
After what had happened, she might react unpredictably.
While digging into Elianna's past, he noticed something off.
He remembered being drugged and sleeping with her. Afterward, she left him a letter saying she couldn't face him and went abroad.
When Elianna came back, she had a child.
He had a paternity test done. The child was indeed his and hers.
But not long after, the doctor who did the test was killed in a car accident. It looked like an accident, but Yosef suspected foul play.
Yosef wondered, 'Why did the doctor die? Did he know something that got him killed?'
Yosef began to question the child's origins.
The boy, Adam, looked very much like him, even from a young age. So if something was wrong, the only person it could involve was Elianna.
Just in case, he decided to do another round of testing.
He took the initiative to message Elianna, asking her to come to his office.
Elianna had been recovering at home, not having left the house for a while.
She hadn't expected Yosef to contact her first and ask her to visit.
Excited, she tried to put makeup over her frighteningly swollen face. But no matter how much she applied, she couldn't hide it.
Furious, Elianna smashed things. "Damn those bitches! They ruined my face! I can't see Yosef like this!"
She sulked for a long while before reluctantly removing the makeup and putting on a mask and hat before heading out.
When she arrived at the office, she rushed to hug Yosef, using her softest voice. "Yosef..."
Yosef resisted his disgust and let Elianna hug him. Calmly, he reached up and removed her hat, gently brushing her hair aside. "How have you been these days?"
He secretly stuffed a few strands of her hair into his pocket.
The motion was so discreet that Elianna didn't notice. She was completely absorbed in her own fantasy.
Elianna said pitifully, "Yosef, you have no idea how hard these past few days have been for me. I don't blame Skylar for setting me up. I owe her."
She continued, "I stole you from her. I stole the place that rightfully belonged to her. I wronged her."
She leaned weakly into his chest like a delicate little girl. "Yosef, even now... do you still want me?"
Yosef responded with a noncommittal hum.
Elianna lit up with joy, ignoring his indifference. "Then... when will we get engaged?"
Yosef replied flatly, "I haven't divorced Skylar yet. So for now, it's not possible."
Elianna asked, "Yosef, how much longer do I have to wait? I've waited five years. Isn't it time you gave me and our child a proper name?"
Biting her lip, her eyes teary, she looked up at him. "Yosef, I don't want to wait anymore."
Yosef looked down. A tear-stained patch on his shirt made him uncomfortable. He swallowed his irritation. "Soon."
