Freya leaned in, lowering her voice as if sharing a secret. "Did you know my sister Skylar was married before? She even has a kid, that five-year-old who was sitting right next to you at dinner."
Freya feigned concern. "I know you're fond of Skylar, but I just can't stand by and watch you get played by her."
Brada frowned. "I've known about this for ages. Got anything else to say?"
Freya stammered, "You... you knew?"
Freya's eyes widened in disbelief. "You knew... and yet you still...?"
Brada shrugged nonchalantly. "So what if she's married with a kid? When I like someone, I go after them boldly. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and win her over.
"Not only do I get a wife, but also an adorable kid, a two-for-one deal! How awesome is that?"
"Why?" Freya thought bitterly.
'Why would a great guy like Yosef fall for Skylar?' Freya fumed inwardly.
'What's so special about her that Brada is head over heels for her?' Freya thought bitterly.
Freya was burning with envy. Jealousy was eating her alive.
Freya couldn't hold back any longer and blurted out, "Brada, I'm better than Skylar and more suitable for you. Why don't you change your mind and like me instead?"
Brada blinked. "What the..."
He gave Freya a contemptuous once-over and said, "Sorry, but I don't like you, and I never could. Compared to Skylar, you don't have a single comparable quality."
Freya's face alternated between pale and flushed as she desperately tried to save face. "Brada, I absolutely refuse to accept that I'm inferior to her."
Freya sneered, "She can't even hold a candle to me. That woman just sleeps her way to the top, trading her body and looks for favors."
Freya stubbornly believed that all of Skylar's accomplishments were solely the result of her leveraging Yosef, and other men's influence.
Freya scoffed inwardly, 'Without those men propping her up, Skylar would be nothing.'
"Damn well she's nothing like that!" Brada shot back. "She's the most brilliant and capable woman I've ever met."
Brada looked at her with disdain and snapped, "Compared to her, you're not even fit to lick her boots!
"I get that you're jealous of Skylar, but she's your sister. You really shouldn't be badmouthing her like this."
Freya was stung by his words, seething with indignation.
Freya fumed, 'Not even fit to carry her shoes?
'Born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I've had experiences and education she, just a nouveau riche's daughter, could never dream of.'
Freya sneered as she voiced her thoughts, then added with a hint of bitterness, "I may treat her like a sister, but I doubt she ever saw me as one.
"Brada, I'm telling you this for your own good, don't walk right into Skylar's trap. You're not in too deep yet, so get out while you still can."
Brada replied firmly, "I don't need your warning. I'd gladly walk into her so-called 'trap'."
Freya grew angrier the more she listened. She fumed inwardly, 'Seriously? After everything I just said about Skylar, Brada is still taking her side?
'Skylar really knows how to wrap people around her finger.'
Freya still refused to let go of this prime catch. "Brada, you're just falling for her looks. Wait till you see her true colors, you'll realize how filthy and disgusting she really is."
Brada realized there was no getting through to Freya, and he'd had enough of her badmouthing Skylar.
He had no intention of wasting another word on her nonsense. He turned on his heel and walked away.
He marched back into the living room, went straight to Skylar, and blurted out, "Skylar, guess what? Your sister Freya just came to me and started badmouthing you!"
Still fuming, Brada raised his voice. "She said you..."
"Brada!" Freya's voice cracked with panic.
Freya's heart nearly stopped.
sHE never imagined he'd immediately blurt out everything she'd just said right in front of Skylar and the others.
If Yana hearD this, she'd definitely get an earful from her.
