Seeing more and more people gathering around, Eliza got even louder with her accusations. Serena watched her like she was some kind of joke.
"What a heartless woman! She doesn't act like a mother at all," one parent said, pointing and whispering.
"I know, right? Just watching that poor kid cry breaks my heart. If you don't want kids, then don't have them."
Serena's expression didn't change as she listened to all the chatter around her. 'After everything I've been through, does Eliza really think I'll just stand here and let myself get framed again?' she thought.
"I wouldn't dare call myself his mother," Serena said clearly. "You came between us from the start, spoiling him rotten. He decided you were the good guy and threw tantrums to get his dad to divorce me."
Everyone around them was shocked to hear this. Leon was still just a little kid, so he couldn't hide his feelings very well—especially since everything she said was true. His face went red with guilt, and he even stopped crying for a moment.
"Oh, so that's what really happened! What kind of kid does something like that?" someone murmured.
"Yeah, that's just heartless."
The crowd was starting to figure out the truth. The woman who'd been so confidently pointing fingers was actually the homewrecker, and the kid beside her was nothing but an ungrateful brat.
"Mom, I know I was wrong." Leon looked at Serena pleadingly, but she already knew exactly what he was thinking. The rose-colored glasses had finally come off, and Leon was starting to see Eliza's true colors.
Now, Leon was remembering how Serena used to be there for him every single moment, genuinely caring for him and protecting him.
'Leon doesn't actually want me as his mother. He wants a full-time nanny like I used to be,' Serena thought.
"Come on, let's go, Alyssa. Don't be scared," Serena said gently to the little girl in her arms. But Alyssa wasn't actually afraid anymore because she knew Serena was protecting her. She was safe now.
Seeing all the disgusted looks from the people around them, Eliza felt completely humiliated. She shoved Leon's back and said, "See? Serena doesn't want you anymore."
Leon just snorted coldly in response.
"I'm sorry for everything I did to you before. Now we're a real family," Eliza said, pulling Leon closer and trying to win back his affection. But Leon wasn't buying it anymore.
"Who says we're family? Mom and I are the real family!" Leon clenched his little fists. "I'm going to win Mom back in the competition today." He walked into the kindergarten step by step, completely ignoring Eliza behind him.
Eliza's face turned dark with anger. 'That ungrateful little brat,' she thought.
Leon and Eliza walked into the kindergarten one after the other and saw Alyssa holding Serena's hand, standing in the center of a crowd like she was the star of the show.
Even though Alyssa didn't say anything, she was clearly showing off. Her chest was puffed out with pride, and she was smiling wider than usual. Her teacher had never seen her this happy before, so she was being extra warm to Serena.
"Alyssa is usually such a good kid, but her dad is the one who usually comes to these things. Are you pretty busy with work?" the teacher asked.
Serena wasn't sure how to explain, so she just nodded after thinking for a moment.
"I see. But you should try to spend more time talking with her, especially with Alyssa's situation. She's actually doing so much better than when she first started here. She's made amazing progress," the teacher smiled.
Hearing someone praise Alyssa made Serena feel proud too.
Leon watched this scene with jealousy burning in his eyes, but he knew if he kept being rude to Alyssa like before, Serena would definitely get mad at him.
So Leon could only watch from a distance as other people complimented Serena on how beautiful she was, assuming she was Alyssa's mother.
"That's my mom," Leon said under his breath, taking a deep breath.
Soon, the kindergarten activities began. This time, it was outdoor parent-child games. Since Serena usually spent her days sitting in an office, she didn't get much time to exercise, so she found it pretty interesting.
"Alyssa, do you want to win the championship toy?" Serena crouched down to look Alyssa in the eye. Alyssa shook her head, worry clearly written on her face. She obviously didn't want Serena to push herself too hard and risk getting hurt.
This is what having a thoughtful daughter feels like,' Serena thought warmly. "Then we'll just do our best. Thank you for being so considerate, Alyssa," she smiled.
On the other side, things weren't nearly as sweet. Leon crossed his arms like a little prince and ordered Eliza around. "I have to win this competition."
Eliza rolled her eyes. She had zero interest in this kind of thing, and besides, she was pregnant now. There was no way she was going to do something this pointless and dangerous just to humor Leon.
Eliza showing up to the event was already doing Leon a huge favor. The results were pretty predictable. Serena definitely wasn't the most athletic parent there, but because Alyssa was so well-behaved and they worked together smoothly, they actually came in second place.
Meanwhile, Eliza and Leon were a complete disaster. Leon was desperately trying to win and just charging ahead without any coordination, while Eliza was holding back and clearly didn't want to really participate in the activity at all. They ended up dead last.
"What's wrong with you? Dad already told you to play with me properly. You did this on purpose. You just don't want me to win my mom back!" Leon started crying and punched Eliza.
Eliza instinctively wanted to slap him back, but considering her current situation, she had to take a deep breath and just endure it.
'Once my baby is born, I'll slowly build up the relationship between that child and Victor. As for Leon... He's just a disobedient little brat who can't be tamed. I have plenty of ways to deal with him,' Eliza thought.
Serena noticed what was happening over there, but whatever happened to Leon now had nothing to do with her.
She carried Alyssa over to get their second-place medal, and Alyssa was beaming the whole time. She smiled shyly but couldn't contain her excitement, holding the medal carefully like it might fly away if she wasn't careful enough.
"Alyssa, if you'd like, I can come visit you more often when I have time. How does that sound?" Serena asked casually, since she was used to Alyssa not being able to respond. She turned around to pack up their things, getting ready to leave with Alyssa.
But just as she turned her head, a small, nervous voice spoke up behind her. "Thank you, Mommy."
Serena froze mid-motion, shocked. She spun around to stare at Alyssa, taking a long moment to process that Alyssa had actually spoken. "Alyssa, you just talked?"
Alyssa pressed her lips and looked at Serena shyly.
