Eliza knew exactly how to do the math on this one. "No way! I'm never leaving the Powell family. You could write me a million checks and it wouldn't matter. You have to marry me!"
Victor rubbed his temples in frustration. Meanwhile, cameras nearby had already captured everything, and before either of them realized it, the video was already spreading like wildfire online.
Serena was sitting in her office when she saw the trending post. She clicked on the video and froze, thinking, 'The Aniston family is definitely going to call off the engagement.'
Regina certainly wasn't going to put up with Victor's nonsense. When she first saw the news, she was relaxing in her private pool. Even though she felt angry, she wasn't surprised at all. It was like she'd expected Victor to be exactly this kind of scumbag.
"Well, that was quite the show," Regina said, rolling over on the bed.
Regina had always thought Victor's face was nice enough to look at, but now that she knew about all the things he'd done and about Eliza's existence, she suddenly lost all interest. She didn't have that kind of tolerance.
Albert's phone was ringing nonstop with calls from shareholders and reporters asking about Victor and Eliza. The stock price was plummeting. He was so furious he had to take his heart medication twice just to keep from passing out.
Albert couldn't afford to just walk away from this mess. Victor was completely useless, and if Albert got sick now, the company would be filing for bankruptcy tomorrow.
"Look at what you've done," Albert said, throwing the printed photos right at Victor's face. "At this point, you have no choice but to marry Eliza. Having a baby before marriage is better than keeping a mistress on the side."
Victor had already figured out Victor's escape plan and even paid off Aniston Group to keep things stable. But when he turned around, Victor still looked completely out of it.
"I don't want to divorce Eliza," Victor murmured.
Albert nearly passed out from anger. "Everything depends on what you want? Then maybe we should all just drop dead. Now get out of here and wait for my orders!" he shouted.
Whether Victor wanted it or not, this wedding had to happen. Otherwise, Powell Group would be completely destroyed by Victor's hands.
Victor walked out the door in a daze and saw Eliza standing nearby, watching him like she'd already won. The sight of her made him think of Serena all over again. 'How did things end up like this?' he thought.
Victor let out a bitter laugh. He finally had to admit that he'd been wrong about people all these years. Too bad he didn't have a chance to fix things now. Serena would never forgive him.
"Vic, I told you I'd be the one standing beside you in the end," Eliza said as she walked over and took his arm.
She was smiling like she'd won some kind of prize, completely different from her hysterical breakdown a few days ago. She looked just like her old self again.
Their reflections appeared in the glass window, standing close together like a couple in love. But Victor broke down and yanked his arm away. "Don't touch me."
He walked away first, leaving Eliza behind. The smile disappeared from her face completely, and a cold laugh escaped her lips.
'Does Victor really think he's some kind of catch?' she thought. If it wasn't for all that money behind him, Eliza would never have looked twice at such a spineless man. But now, she was about to become the lady of the Powell Group.
Over the next few days, the Powell family quickly announced Victor and Eliza's engagement. When Serena saw the news, she didn't react at all.
They'd become bitter enemies now, and knowing Victor was miserable actually gave her a little satisfaction.
Their marriage had never been unhappy because of anything she'd done. It was because Victor was selfish and always obsessing over the woman he couldn't have. Now that he'd ended up like this, he had no one to blame but himself.
"Serena, what are you thinking about? You look so focused," Kristy said, walking over and sitting across from her. She slid an invitation across the table.
They hadn't been able to meet up in a while since Kristy had been busy with wedding preparations, but today, she'd finally found time to have lunch with Serena.
Serena snapped back to reality with a slight smile. "Nothing important. But now that you're getting married soon, you definitely look better than usual."
At the mention of her wedding, Kristy's expression changed and she looked annoyed. "You have no idea what happened. Eliza's getting married too, right? She went out of her way to find out when my wedding was, and then she scheduled hers for the exact same day."
Having someone she hated copying her schedule on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life made Kristy feel absolutely disgusted.
It was even worse knowing that Eliza now acted like she was the lady of the Powell family and had to have the best of everything.
This was making Kristy sick.
Serena had no idea this was happening and frowned when she heard about it. Before she could say anything, her phone on the table suddenly lit up with an incoming call from Victor.
Serena frowned, feeling annoyed. This had to be the hundredth time Victor had called her at night. At first, she thought it might be some kind of emergency, but she'd figured out that every single time he was completely wasted. He was basically just calling to throw drunk tantrums.
Serena was about to hang up when Kristy snatched the phone from her hands with a cold smile. "Don't worry. I'm here today. Answer it."
"That bastard Victor is still trying to mess with your life. I'm going to give him a piece of my mind today," Kristy said as she picked up the call, ready to let him have it. But instead of Victor's voice, she heard something completely different.
"This is the police station. Are you related to Victor?" the officer said seriously.
Kristy raised an eyebrow and handed the phone back to Serena.
"Sorry, I'm not," Serena said when she heard the officer's voice. The cop on the other end sounded frustrated and let out a sigh.
"Ma'am, Victor got into a fight at a bar tonight. He's passed out drunk, and you're his only emergency contact." The police couldn't unlock Victor's phone without permission, so they had no other choice but to call her.
Serena and Kristy exchanged glances. In the end, Serena had to agree to go to the station, pick up Victor, and drop him off at Powell Villa.
"I swear he was born to ruin your life," Kristy said angrily. "He's about to marry someone else, but he's still wasting your time in the middle of the night."
"This is the last time," Serena said calmly. "I already blocked his number. He won't be able to reach me again."
She wasn't doing this out of kindness. Albert had given her a lot of financial support over the years, even if it came with strings attached.
Serena didn't like owing people favors, so this would be the final time. She'd tell Albert the same thing when she saw him.
"You should've done this ages ago!" Kristy said, crossing her arms. "Victor just gets worse the more you help him. You never should've put up with his crap."
