Serena sat there completely unfazed, only making Winnie's resentful glare burn hotter. After a long moment, Winnie rolled her eyes and finally sat down.
It was her first day at the company, and Winnie decided she wouldn't stoop to their level.
"I'll email the detailed work materials to this computer. You need to review everything within three days," Serena said flatly.
That set Winnie off immediately. "Only three days to get familiar with everything? Just because I said a few words to you earlier, you're already making things difficult for me. You're absolutely vicious!"
Serena's brow furrowed.
Winnie had already been complaining about being bullied before seeing the files. This was getting ridiculous.
"When Serena started here, she reviewed all this material in just one day. It's not much, and it's pretty straightforward," Graham couldn't help but defend Serena again.
After finally calming Winnie down, Serena and Graham exchanged a look. Both saw the same helplessness in each other's eyes.
Serena returned to her desk and sent over the files. Winnie had barely settled into her seat when she got up again and walked over to Serena.
Winnie said, "There's so much I don't understand. Your spot looks more comfortable. Can I sit here while I read? Oh, and get me some water. Make it warm. If you have freshly ground coffee beans, I'll take a cup of that instead."
Serena looked up, her gaze cool and cutting as it swept over Winnie. "I'm your leader, not your servant. Handle your own work when you're at the company. If you don't understand something, message me. Now go back to your desk and figure it out."
It was normal for new employees to need guidance. Still, Winnie's demanding tone didn't earn her any special treatment from Serena.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying right here." Winnie crossed her arms, clearly stating she wouldn't budge unless Serena gave in.
But Serena wasn't about to coddle her. "Either do the job or leave Brannon Creative Group. With your background, I'm sure you'll find work elsewhere easily enough."
"Serena!" Winnie's face flushed red with anger. "How dare you talk to me like that? Do you know who I am? I got this job through connections. Cross me, and I can get you fired with one word!"
"Like I said, if you're not happy, take it up with Mr. Brannon. If he can actually get me fired, I'll admit defeat." Serena's eyes blazed with determination. She turned around just as Graham emerged from his office.
"I can't handle this princess," she said bluntly. "Pass her off to whoever you want. I'm here to work, not babysit."
Graham had never seen Serena this furious before. Her voice had turned sharp, giving him an instant headache.
"What's going on here?" A deep male voice suddenly cut through the tension from the other side of the room. Everyone looked up like they'd found their savior, but Winnie was the first person to rush to Keith's side, clinging to his arm with practiced sweetness.
Serena's gaze froze.
"Keith, look how your employees are bullying me! It's only my first day and they're already piling work on me. I can't keep up!" Winnie's voice dripped with innocence.
She added, "I just asked that employee to get me a glass of water. I don't even know where the break room is. Is that really so unreasonable?"
She looked pitiful now, completely different from her arrogant attitude moments before.
Keith met Serena's eyes and quietly pulled his arm free.
Graham missed the tension between them and couldn't help commenting, 'No wonder Winnie looked so confident earlier. Turns out Keith's got her back! Makes sense—nobody in this company could fire her.'
Serena didn't rush to make Keith explain. She just watched him quietly.
But under her steady gaze, Keith already felt uncomfortable. He cleared his throat. "Winnie's the daughter of one of our business partners. Her father sent her here for an internship. Everyone please be accommodating."
Winnie immediately turned toward Serena with a smug look and then pointed at her with obvious entitlement. "Keith, I want her to teach me. Can you assign her to me for the whole internship?"
She thought, 'Serena thinks she's so high and mighty. I'll disgust her right to her face and show her exactly how different we are.'
But Keith rejected. "Serena doesn't have time. Nicole will show you around instead."
His tone left no room for argument. He turned and walked out of the design department. Before taking two steps, he had already texted Serena with an apology.
He'd heard about Winnie's attitude before, but never expected her to be this arrogant on her first day. If James hadn't given him a heads-up, Serena might still be dealing with this mess.
Winnie hadn't expected Serena to have such good luck, but whatever—she wasn't going to follow her anyway. Serena looked like some cold, bitter old hag. Winnie couldn't care less about her.
"Ms. Banks, I'm Nicole, also known as Cole, the online influencer designer. It's such an honor to work with you." Nicole eagerly stood up from the other side, practically groveling.
Winnie looked her up and down, then nodded with satisfaction. This one seemed much more pleasant than Serena.
Nicole could tell that Winnie came from money. She didn't know which business partner's daughter Winnie was, but seeing how close she acted with Keith, Nicole knew she had to stay on her good side.
And if Serena were going against Winnie, things wouldn't end well for her.
The drama finally died down. Serena rubbed her temples, having already seen Keith's explanation. She knew she'd have to put up with Winnie for now.
Since Winnie wasn't working under her anymore, Serena could turn a blind eye. As long as Winnie didn't cause trouble right in front of her, she didn't care.
Nicole switched seats with Winnie, and Winnie warmed up to her immediately. When Serena wasn't looking, she shot her another dirty look.
Winnie said, "You're so much nicer. You're actually sweet to new people, not like Serena. She's just a deputy team leader, but she acts like she's hot shit..."
Nicole put on a sympathetic face and shook her head sadly.
She said, "Ms. Banks, you don't know her. That's just how she is. She's not even that capable. She just spends all her time sucking up to Mr. Brannon. Honestly, she doesn't have what it takes to be deputy team leader."
The moment Winnie heard Keith was involved, her expression turned ice cold.
