Nicole had her doubts at first, but after seeing Winnie's reaction, she was certain that Winnie had feelings for Keith.
Nicole already couldn't stand Serena. She'd been bitter ever since Serena got the deputy team leader position. Seeing her act so clueless and offend Winnie made Nicole gleeful.
She spent the entire day hovering around Winnie, sucking up to her while badmouthing Serena at every opportunity.
"I hate people like that the most," Nicole said with a fake sigh. "No real skills, but they latch onto the boss and then try to manage the rest of us."
"But there's nothing we can do. Mr. Brannon trusts her completely. Maybe it's because they have some kind of special relationship." Nicole paused here, suddenly panicking as she glanced around nervously.
Winnie's expression turned ice-cold. She'd already found Serena annoying earlier, but now learning she had that kind of relationship with Keith, no wonder he'd been so quick to brush her off and tell her to find someone else.
Nicole added, "Ms. Banks, please don't tell anyone I said this. I don't want people thinking I'm just spreading gossip."
Winnie crossed her arms and let out a cold laugh. "I'm not that bored, and I'm grateful you told me all this. Otherwise, I would never have known what kind of person this Serena is."
Seeing the disgust filling Winnie's eyes, Nicole couldn't help but smile slightly where Winnie couldn't see her.
This was precisely how it should be. Nicole couldn't figure out why everyone liked Serena. She wasn't any worse than Serena, but she always seemed to be overshadowed at Brannon Creative Group.
Now Nicole wanted to see how Serena would handle making an enemy of Winnie.
She turned to see Winnie had already walked over to Serena's side, speaking with obvious sarcasm. "No wonder you're so tough. Turns out you have someone backing you up. I just wonder if certain people can really stay this tough forever."
Serena's response was simple—she put on her headphones.
Winnie had a special status, and Keith had already messaged Serena explaining the situation. Winnie probably wouldn't stay interested for long. Once she got tired of working, she'd naturally leave. Then the whole design department could have some peace.
Serena saw no point in arguing with this spoiled princess, so ignoring her was the best response.
After hearing those words, Winnie had expected Serena to jump up and fight back. Instead, Serena treated her like air, which only made Winnie angrier.
Winnie returned to her seat angrily.
Nicole quickly moved to comfort her. "Ms. Banks, that's just how Serena is. She acts all high and mighty every day. Don't let her get to you. Just ignore her."
She continued, "Think about your status. If this were anywhere else, Serena wouldn't even qualify to speak to you. Why let someone like that ruin your mood?"
These words hit exactly what Winnie wanted to hear. She lifted her chin, pride flickering in her eyes.
"She's just some ordinary little designer. What's there to be proud of? My relationship with Keith isn't like hers." Winnie stamped her foot. "I'm going upstairs to find Keith right now!" With that, Winnie stood up and headed upstairs.
Nicole watched her go, feeling a stab of jealousy. If only she had Winnie's prestigious background, she could be just as free and easy, even stepping all over Serena.
Just thinking about it made Nicole happy. Too bad she wasn't born with such luck. She could only use Winnie as her weapon to strike at others.
Winnie headed upstairs, but James stepped into her path before she could reach the CEO's office.
Winnie frowned. "What are you doing? I need to see Keith. I have something really important to tell him, so move!"
James' expression didn't change. He didn't believe Winnie could have anything important to say. After all, she barely knew what was happening at the company, let alone having some urgent matter that needed Keith's attention.
"If Ms. Banks needs something, you can tell me now. I'll pass it along when Mr. Brannon has time." James shut down her protests without hesitation.
Winnie paced by the door several times, frustrated, but ultimately couldn't get in to see Keith.
Meanwhile, inside the office, Keith was texting Serena to smooth things.
Keith: [I really have nothing going on with Winnie. She came to see me, and I just made up some excuse to get rid of her.]
Keith: [Are you mad?]
Seeing Keith's careful, almost anxious tone, Serena set down her manuscript and felt helpless.
She wasn't that petty. More importantly, Serena knew Keith. There were things he would never do, and he'd never be the type to play both sides. This trust came from knowing him for so long.
Serena: [Just working on a manuscript. Not mad.]
Honestly, Serena wasn't thrilled about being targeted from the start, especially with some well-connected person suddenly showing up who didn't do any work.
Still, given Winnie's special status, Serena figured she could cut her some slack—if Winnie needed it.
When Serena put down her phone, Winnie stormed back in, fuming because she hadn't found Keith anywhere.
Winnie had grown up getting everything she wanted. Keith was the one exception. She'd fallen for him at first sight back at her father's company, and honestly, that was the only reason she'd taken this job in the first place.
Over the next few days, Winnie made a beeline for Keith's office every time she walked into the building.
At first, Keith would sometimes let her in. But once Winnie got inside, she'd start acting all coy and keep trying to touch him.
"Sorry, Ms. Banks." James had strict orders this time. He could never let Winnie set foot in Keith's office again.
He continued, "Mr. Brannon has made it clear you're not allowed in there. Like I said before, if you need something, come find me. If not, please stop coming here."
James had never dealt with someone this persistent. It was like she'd been sent down specifically to torture Keith.
And Keith had already turned her down flat, yet Winnie wouldn't give up.
