"Don't sell yourself short. I know everyone's been working incredibly hard on this Tims Group project." Serena smiled, "Besides, you had the vision to bring me into the company, that shows how capable you are. You're already amazing, and we don't need to keep score between us."
She stepped closer and gave Keith a soft kiss on the cheek.
"Is this my reward for turning down Winnie just now?" Keith's voice was low and warm. Serena couldn't help but laugh. "Maybe, but that's not really why I did it. I just think Mr. Brannon looks really handsome when he's focused on work."
Keith pulled her into his arms with a helpless smile. "Well then, thank you for the reward, Serena."
Daniel's party was finally here. It was Keith's first time bringing Serena to an event like this, so he'd ordered her dress weeks in advance.
Keith sat in the living room, waiting for Serena to get ready. He heard footsteps behind him and turned around. The moment he saw her, words completely failed him. She was stunning.
When the designer took Serena's measurements, she couldn't stop raving about her beauty. The finished dress proved she hadn't been exaggerating. It was perfect for Serena.
Since Serena was a designer herself, she could tell this dress was crafted with genuine care. To create something this exquisite in such a short time took serious skill, and probably a serious dent in Keith's wallet.
"This must have cost a fortune," Serena said, walking toward him. The delicate butterflies along her dress hem fluttered with each step, and the gradient from pale blue to sky blue was breathtaking.
Keith smiled, "Not really, and you're worth every penny anyway."
Alyssa laughed along with them, and seeing their expressions, Serena felt her cheeks warm. She cleared her throat. "Well, as long as it's worth it. Let's go."
Keith nodded, and they got in the car. When James saw them together, he couldn't help but be struck by how stunning Serena looked, even though he'd always known she was beautiful.
"Ms. Gray's going to steal the show tonight," James said.
Serena was already feeling self-conscious, and now she felt even more embarrassed. Keith noticed her discomfort. "Don't praise her too much. She'll get shy."
James smiled good-naturedly from the front seat. "Alright, Ms. Gray, don't be nervous. I'm just telling the truth."
Serena stared at her reflection in the car window, lost in thought.
They reached the hotel quickly. Serena took Keith's arm as they stepped out of the car. Winnie and Daniel were greeting guests at the entrance and immediately spotted them approaching.
The moment Daniel saw Serena, admiration flashed in his eyes. Then he heard Winnie's bitter voice beside him. "She's nothing but a homewrecker! She stole the man I like! Dad, she's the one who's been bullying me!"
Daniel had known about Serena for a while, but every time Winnie described her, she painted this picture of some tough, mean woman. Before today, Daniel had honestly wondered about Keith's taste in women.
But seeing Serena here tonight, Daniel got it. Sure, Winnie was pretty, but next to Serena? There was no comparison.
"Mr. Banks." Keith approached them both. He didn't want to deal with Winnie, but this was Daniel's event, and he couldn't just avoid them without being rude.
Daniel said, "So this must be Mr. Brannon's date. You're beautiful—no wonder Winnie always talks about you."
Serena stayed close to Keith's side and gave them both a polite nod.
"Please, come on in." Daniel was a businessman first and foremost. He could tell Keith had zero interest in Winnie, and his company needed Keith more than Keith needed them.
Winnie's crush on Keith is a phase anyway. Once she stopped seeing him around, she'd get over it.
With that thought, Daniel watched Keith and Serena walk into the hotel before returning to comfort Winnie.
He said, "Look, maybe we should just let this go. Keith doesn't like you, but plenty of other guys do. We don't need to chase after some guy whose heart belongs to someone else, right Winnie?"
Winnie's face darkened instantly. "No way! Why should I give up the man I want to someone else? I don't believe Keith won't like me. I'll find a way to make Serena disappear from his world forever!"
With that, Winnie spun around and stormed into the hotel. Daniel watched her retreating figure and felt a headache coming on. Winnie had been spoiled since childhood, and he didn't want her to keep being so stubborn. She'd only end up hurting herself.
Daniel sighed and could only shake his head helplessly.
Meanwhile, when Serena and Keith walked into the reception, they caught quite a few people's attention.
"Mr. Brannon, and this is?" A business partner approached them, his eyes practically glued to Serena's face. "I don't think I've seen such a beauty around Mr. Brannon before."
Keith remained expressionless. "This is our company's new designer, also the well-known designer Siren."
At the mention of "Siren," many people turned to look. After all, Siren was like a dream for many people—almost everyone in this circle knew her name.
Naturally, Serena didn't feel intimidated. Meeting everyone's gaze, her eyes appeared gentle yet profound, like a piece of deep blue amber.
"So that's Siren—she's gorgeous." The admiring voices around her made Winnie's mood even worse.
Winnie walked over to her little circle of friends, and when she saw the same awe in their eyes as they looked at Serena, her face darkened instantly. "You all like Serena too?"
Her friends snapped back to reality and noticed Winnie's sour expression. Then they remembered Serena was after the same guy Winnie wanted.
Sure, they thought Serena was stunning, but they had to take Winnie's side. After all, Winnie was the one who treated them to things and spent money on them, not Serena.
"She's got that whole seductive look going on," one friend said, grabbing Winnie's arm. "I mean, she's pretty, but when you really look at her, she's just average. The important thing is getting Keith back. She's just some regular designer. How could she even compare to you?"
Winnie's expression softened slightly, but then she sighed. "But Keith only likes her. He won't even look at me."
