The netizens took such a one-sided stance without even knowing the truth. It was all because of Sarah's innocent-looking appearance.
For a moment, Serena couldn't tell if this kind of "justice" was right or wrong. After today, many girls who really needed to stand up for themselves would find it even harder to do so.
"Stop looking. The clarification video will go out in half an hour," Keith said, thinking Serena was upset about the online slander.
But she just shook her head. "I just think Sarah's really awful. She's using her so-called 'honor' to play the victim, but deep down, she doesn't care about her own body or reputation at all."
Alyssa didn't fully understand her words, but she could tell Serena was unhappy, so she quietly climbed into her arms.
"It's okay, I'm just rambling," Serena said, breaking into a smile when she saw how sweet and cuddly Alyssa looked.
She was glad Sarah's little tricks were so petty. Otherwise, the whole Brannon Creative Group would have been hurt by her baseless lies.
Meanwhile, Sarah was feeling quite pleased with herself.
Since she'd posted that video, the comments were full of sympathy. Lots of people, drawn to her looks, had flocked to follow her personal account.
She'd been craving a piece of the internet fame pie for a long time, and now, it was a win-win. With all this sympathy and new fans, she could blackmail Keith for money and maybe even become an instant hit.
She sneered, "I've said that Winnie's an idiot. If I had her background, I would've had Keith wrapped around my finger ages ago."
Sarah was still gloating when suddenly a flood of insults poured into her notifications. A flutter of panic hit her, and she quickly opened one. [You liar, you should go to hell!]
Vicious curses popped up on the screen. Sarah's hands shook as she quickly refreshed the page. There it was. Brannon Creative Group had released a statement, along with the full, unedited office surveillance footage.
It hadn't been cut, just sped up a little. Every moment was clear—from Sarah throwing a fit, storming into the office, to her throwing herself at Keith, then flying into a rage, and falsely accusing him.
Everyone could see it all plain as day. Suddenly, they understood who the real victim was.
[That's so messed up. She threw herself at him, and when he turned her down, she turned around and said she was forced.]
[Guess you can't just jump into things online. You can watch, but don't get involved. There could be a twist any second.]
The comments flipped right away. No one believed Sarah anymore. Fans left her account in droves, and all that was left was a mess.
She wanted to explain, but had no idea where to start. The evidence was rock solid, and all that waited for her was a flood of backlash.
A dream and its end—only half an hour apart.
Serena wasn't surprised by how fast people turned on Sarah. She'd seen this coming. Keith was innocent, and he'd already taken half an hour of abuse. That was more than enough.
"Let's be done with this. As long as she stays away from us, that's that," Serena said.
Everyone knew what Sarah had done now. That was punishment enough. Serena didn't want to keep going after her.
"Okay, whatever you say." Keith looked down at her, knowing Serena was always soft-hearted. Otherwise, Sarah would've gotten far worse than she did.
The whole thing blew over quickly. Serena didn't check up on Sarah after that. She was too busy running around with the studio's affairs every day.
Back when Serena was at Brannon Creative Group, she'd been busy with projects, too. But it was nothing like this. Now, she had to handle everything herself.
Thankfully, the studio got up and running quickly. Lana started hiring people for other departments. Serena finally got a chance to rest for a bit.
"Someone reached out today. Our studio is gonna land its first client soon!" Lana burst into Serena's office, excited.
Serena was surprised. Their studio had only just opened a few days ago. They hadn't even done any promotions. Hardly anyone should know about them yet.
She wondered, 'How does a client come knocking so fast?'
"Yeah, I didn't expect it, either," Lana said, turning serious. "But it sounds like they're coming for you. They said when you were at Brannon Creative Group, they tried to book you.
"But you never had time. So as soon as they heard you were here, they followed. You're such a lucky charm for me!"
Serena hadn't expected the client to come for her, feeling a little embarrassed by Lana's praise. But she was happy, too.
If they closed this deal, they'd have great material for their promotions later. 'So this contract has to work out,' Serena thought.
They scheduled the meeting for the next day.
Serena had negotiated deals before. But never as a studio owner. Lana noticed her nerves and laughed, "Who knew you'd get nervous, Seri?"
Lana was way more relaxed. This contract felt like a bonus. Landing it would be amazing. But even if they didn't, at least they'd tried.
When they got to the restaurant, Serena sat at the table, waiting patiently. Before long, the representatives from the other company arrived.
"Nice to meet you, we're from Starlight Corporation. I'm Patricia, the person in charge." Patricia Walsh was very polite. She walked over to Serena, with a smile on her face, and said, "Serena, I never thought our first collaboration would be with your new studio. It's truly an honor."
Even though Starlight Corporation was the client, Serena felt they were being more polite than her side.
"To be honest, we started paying attention to you after seeing how well Tims Group's new products have been received lately," Patricia said. "Your designs are really creative, and they're clearly popular with the public."
Patricia didn't talk on and on. She just asked her assistant to get the contract. "We've shown plenty of good faith here. If you're okay with it, we can sign right now.
"Of course, if there's anything you're not happy with, feel free to say so. I can check with our CEO online right away and fight for what you need."
Starlight Corporation was such a top-notch big company that no one would dare use its name to run scams. Otherwise, Lana really thought they might have run into fraudsters.
