"I just feel like I've met the love of my life. You understand?" Simon could feel something shift inside him. He smiled, "That lady is your friend?"
"Wait, you're actually into Chloe?" Lana mentally reviewed Chloe's temperament. She thought, 'Chloe is even more hot-headed than I am. No, I'm hot-headed, of course.'
After a pause, she warned, "Listen, Chloe's personality is... Well, let's just say she makes me look easygoing. Today's events made her seem fragile, but that's not who she is. If you're drawn to this version of her, you—"
"No," Simon cut in firmly. "It's a feeling. You're too young to get it."
Lana glared at him. "Seriously? Simon, this is your first crush. Meanwhile, I've actually dated someone. Who's the clueless one here?"
Simon chuckled, "Oh? Then where's this ex of yours now?"
"Damn!" Lana huffed. "You know I hate when people bring him up. Fine. Figure out how to chase Chloe yourself. I'm not giving you her number."
Unaware of the conversation, Chloe and Serena had left the studio, bought groceries, and returned to the apartment.
After dinner, Serena finally checked her phone and saw Lana's message: [Simon seems into Chloe and wants her contact info. Think she'd be okay with that?]
Serena was surprised. Though she had sensed something off earlier, she hadn't considered this. She had assumed Simon was teasing Chloe, not genuinely interested.
Lana's next message popped up: [Simon is a good guy. Total softie at heart.]
The description was fair. After all, Lana and Simon had never gotten along, and Serena trusted her not to risk Chloe's happiness to praise Simon.
After a pause, Serena replied: [Chloe just went through something traumatic. I'm not sure she's ready to jump into anything new so soon.]
[Maybe I'll casually bring it up when the time's right?]
Lana had only agreed to help because Simon had bribed her a little. Whether things worked out was up to him. She sent: [No problem. He'll wait however long it takes.]
Serena couldn't help but laugh. She knew those weren't Simon's exact words. But as Chloe's best friend, her priority was clear. Serena replied: [Then let him wait.]
Simon, who appeared gentle and reserved, turned out to be a man of action. The following day, he arrived at the apartment laden with gifts.
Standing politely at the door, he asked, "Ms. Gray, does Ms. Whitmore live here?" His curious gaze wandered inside as he held the presents.
Looking at him, Serena thought, 'He seems well-mannered, but if he's already tracked her down, surely he knows Chloe's here?'
Hearing the noise, Chloe stepped out of her room and froze at the sight of Simon.
Spotting her, Simon offered a warm smile. "Ms. Whitmore, we meet again. I came to see you."
Chloe was utterly baffled, momentarily distracted by his smile. After a pause, she finally processed his words and wondered, 'See me? But we've only met once.'
Serena knew what was going on and let out a sigh. She had planned to break the news to Chloe later, but now seemed as good a time as any. She said, "Come in, please. Chloe, I need to talk to you. Let's go to my room."
Still confused, Chloe followed as Serena pulled her away.
Simon, understanding what was about to unfold, gave a slight nod and sat stiffly on the couch, waiting.
"What's going on? Why is Lana's brother here to see me?" In the room, Chloe asked, bewildered.
Serena sighed and recounted what Lana had told her last night.
After listening, Chloe fell silent for a moment. "So you're saying Simon likes me and wants to pursue me? That's why he showed up today?"
Serena nodded, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Exactly. He's probably trying to win your favor. But whether you want to be with him or not is up to you."
Chloe found it all too sudden and fell silent. She thought, 'During our first meeting yesterday, I just thought he was good-looking and kind. Now, at our second meeting, he claims to like me? Isn't that a bit rushed?'
"Relax," Serena reassured her. "No one's forcing you to accept someone you don't like. I told you this upfront so you can follow your heart, whether that means accepting or rejecting him."
Seeing Serena's serious expression, Chloe nodded in understanding. After a pause, she said, "It is unexpected. This is only my second meeting with Simon. We'll interact normally for now. If something happens between us in the future, I guess it's fate."
Relieved that Chloe wasn't shutting herself off from love after everything that had happened, Serena exhaled softly. They stepped out of the room together.
Simon and Chloe exchanged a glance, both choosing not to address the elephant in the room. For a moment, Serena felt like an awkward third wheel.
Over the following days, Simon visited several more times, with an excuse to invite both Chloe and Serena out. "I haven't been back to Nepton in years. I'd love to explore with you two."
Chloe never refused, though Serena was tempted to. Tagging along made her feel unnecessary, but she knew Chloe wasn't ready to be alone with Simon yet.
"This was my favorite restaurant before I went abroad," Simon said warmly.
