Serena looked at Stacey, a cold smile flickering in her eyes. She thought, 'The two women really have their act down. One plays the good cop, the other the bad. What a perfect performance.'
Max's stern gaze swept over Erika and Stacey. His tone held a clear note of irritation. "That's enough. Erika, watch your words. Do not slander your colleagues without cause."
Erika covered her face and shot Serena a venomous glare before stalking back to her desk.
Max turned to Stacey next. "Stacey, the same goes for you. Serena's design has received high praise from Mr. Lyles. That is a fact, witnessed by everyone. Don't spread baseless rumors. Now, get back to work."
Stacey bit her lip, forcing an awkward smile as she replied, "Yes, Mr. Davidson. I won't do this again."
After work, Serena contacted the real estate agent and found a suitable apartment not far from the office.
The next morning, Serena packed her bags, ready to check out of the hotel.
Before leaving, she picked up a lovely bunny toy she had chosen especially for Alyssa and walked to Keith's room.
She knocked on the door, and Keith's low voice came from inside. "Come in."
Serena pushed the door open. The room was filled with a faint scent of sandalwood.
Keith was seated at the desk with a book in hand. He looked up as she entered.
"Morning, is Alyssa here?" Serena asked. Her eyes scanned the room, yet she saw no trace of Alyssa.
"She's in the other room," Keith replied, setting down his book and rising to his feet.
At the sound of Serena's voice, quick footsteps came from the bedroom, and a small head peeked out from behind the door.
Alyssa's sleep-touched face appeared, but the moment she saw Serena, her eyes lit up with joy.
Serena knelt down and gently tousled Alyssa's soft hair. "Hi, Alyssa, I have a little gift for you."
With a smile, Serena brought out the bunny toy and held it out in both hands.
The moment Alyssa saw it, her eyes grew wide with delight. Her mouth opened slightly in surprise. She accepted the bunny with both hands and hugged it close as though it were the most precious treasure in the world.
Seeing how tightly Alyssa clutched the toy, Serena knew she had picked the right one. "This little bunny will always stay with you. Be good and take care of it, okay?"
Alyssa nodded eagerly, holding the bunny even tighter, her face beaming with happiness.
Serena said, "Alyssa, I have to go now. Be a good girl."
Though Alyssa clearly didn't want her to leave, she still nodded.
Serena stood up and turned to Keith. "Mr. Brannon, I'll take my leave now."
"Wait," Keith said. He turned and retrieved an elegant gift box, handing it to her. "Thank you for everything you've done for Alyssa. I really appreciate it."
Serena opened the box and found an exquisitely crafted brooch inside. She froze for a moment and said while waving her hand, "This is too precious. I can't accept it."
Keith insisted, "Just take it as a small token from a friend. Don't reject me, please."
Serena hesitated, finally gave a soft nod, and accepted the gift.
"Have you found a place to stay? Do you need help?" Keith asked again.
"Yeah, I've already found an apartment. It's close to the office. Thank you, anyway," Serena replied politely.
Keith nodded. "Alright then. Take care on your way."
Serena gave Alyssa one last hug before leaving the hotel.
With the help of the real estate agent, she smoothly moved her belongings into the new apartment.
Leon burst into Powell Villa's living room, with excitement written all over his face as he clutched the new transforming robot toy he'd just bought with his pocket money.
Leon said, "Oliver, look, I got a new toy. Let's play together."
Oliver was bent over his handheld game console on the sofa. He glanced up at Leon, disdain flickering across his features. "Why are you here again?"
"I just want to play with you," Leon replied. "Remember how we agreed to have a robot duel today?"
Oliver rolled his eyes, tossed the console aside, and crossed his arms. "Can you stop pestering me?"
Leon tightened his grip on the robot, bewildered by Oliver's sudden hostility.
At that moment, the front door clicked open. Victor entered, bringing in a gust of cool breeze, looking tired.
He noticed Leon standing alone and frowned as he slipped off his shoes. "What's wrong? Is Oliver giving you a hard time?"
Leon pursed his lips and complained, "Oliver doesn't play with me." He lowered his head and kicked at the edge of the rug.
Victor paused but said nothing more. He comforted Leon. "Give him a moment. He'll come around soon. Cheer up, okay?" After speaking, he strolled into the dining room.
Eliza came out of the kitchen with the last dish, a gentle smile brightening her face. "Hi, Vic, you're home. I made your favorite fish. Give it a try."
Victor sat at the table, visibly relaxing. "Thank you, Eliza. It looks delicious."
Eliza ladled soup into a bowl and handed it to Victor. "Vic, there's something I'd like to discuss with you."
Victor looked up. "Yeah, go ahead."
Putting down her spoon, Eliza spoke earnestly, suppressing any hint of ulterior motive. "Can I work at Powell Group? I can't keep relying on you forever."
Victor shot her a surprised glance and replied, "Ellie, you can stay here as long as you like. You're not a burden."
"I know you mean well, Vic, but I need to stand on my own. You know, I studied design in school. If I join the design team, I can put my education to use and help you with some of the workload."
Victor considered her words for a moment. Then he asked, "Which department do you have in mind?"
Eliza's eyes sparkled, and she wondered, 'I knew he'd agree.'
She replied, "I'd love to join the design department if that's possible."
Victor said. "Sure, I'll make the arrangements."
Eliza smiled, "Thank you, Vic."
The next morning, Victor personally escorted Eliza to the design department. He cleared his throat and announced, "Everyone, this is Eliza Stone. She'll join our department from today."
Eliza returned their gaze with a warm smile and a polite bow. "Hello, everyone. I look forward to working with you."
Those colleagues exchanged hushed whispers, looking curious. After all, it was rare for Victor to personally introduce a newcomer to them.
A young girl said, "Did you see that? Mr. Powell brought her in himself."
The man sitting next replied, "It must mean she's important to him."
Someone else said, "I wonder what her background is. Can you imagine it? Mr. Powell personally introduced her."
"Serena has done amazing work for us, but she never got the VIP treatment. Who is this girl?" another one questioned.
Eliza overheard their whispers. She knew of Serena's reputation in the design team, but she believed that a little charm could win them over.
Stepping forward, Eliza offered a bright greeting to the small cluster of crowd. "Hi, I'm Eliza. We will work together from now on. I hope we can help each other and grow better."
However, to her disappointment, she didn't get the responses she wanted.
