Erika burst into the conference room, slamming the door open. "Jacob, what the hell are you doing here?"
Serena watched as Erika burst in. 'What a godsend. Now I don't have to keep pretending to be polite with Jacob,' she thought, feeling relieved.
"Erika? Since you're here, you can take over. Mr. Banks can discuss his specific design requirements with you." With that, Serena turned on her heel and walked out without looking back, leaving behind Jacob, stunned, and Erika, seething.
After Serena left, Erika glared at Jacob, her chest heaving with rage as she demanded furiously.
"What the hell do you mean? You demanded Serena's design by name? Who do you think I am?" Erika demanded.
'Damn, this woman is such a pain,' Jacob thought to himself. He forced a smile, though his mind was already racing for an exit. "I should never have messed with Erika. Now I'm stuck with her and can't even shake her off.'
"Darling, you've got it all wrong. I just wanted to check out her design skills, nothing more," explained Jacob.
"Nothing more? That's bullshit. I saw how you were looking at her yesterday. Don't think I don't know what you're really after. You—" Erika was furious.
Jacob cut her off impatiently. "Enough already. Cut the drama. I prefer women who know their place. Don't push your luck."
At Jacob's words, Erika instantly fell silent in fear. She had worked so hard to climb onto Jacob's coattails. If he really got tired of her now, all her efforts would go down the drain.
"Know your place, and don't overestimate yourself," he warned. Jacob shot Erika a contemptuous glance, then turned and strode out of the conference room without a second thought, leaving her standing there all alone.
Erika stood alone in the conference room, her anger boiling hotter with each passing thought.
She wondered, 'Why her? What makes Serena so special to Jacob? I have given so much, yet in the end, I have gotten nothing. Serena must have used some underhanded, seductive tricks to lure Jacob.'
Serena was engrossed in revising the design drafts when Erika stormed over, her face contorted with rage. "Serena, have you no shame? How dare you seduce my boyfriend?"
Serena was startled by the sudden commotion. She looked up at Erika, her hands freezing mid-task. "Erika, don't speak recklessly."
Erika shouted, "Stop playing innocent. Don't think I don't know what you're up to. You're deliberately cozying up to Jacob, trying to steal him away from me."
Erika pointed her finger at Serena's nose and shrieked, "You scheming bitch, all you ever do is use your dirty tricks to seduce men."
"Erika, show some respect. There's nothing improper between Jacob and me. Frankly, he's so despicable. Maybe only you could find him appealing." Serena rolled her eyes.
"Still playing dumb? How dare you deny seducing him? Don't tell me you don't have feelings for him, you shameless bitch." Erika was infuriated by Serena's calm demeanor. Consumed by jealousy, she lashed out, reaching to slap her.
With lightning reflexes, Serena seized her wrist and flung her hand aside. "Erika, I'm warning you. Stop this unreasonable harassment. This is a workplace, not some back alley for your tantrums.
"If you lay a hand on me again or keep spreading false accusations, I'll call the police immediately."
Erika's eyes darted craftily as an idea came to her mind. Suddenly, she raised her voice in a dramatic wail. "Serena, you seduced my boyfriend, you bitch. How dare you ruin my relationship?"
Erika's loud wails instantly drew the attention of the other colleagues in the office.
"What's going on?"
"Are they making a scene over some mistress drama?"
"Seriously? Serena doesn't seem like that kind of person."
"Appearances can be deceiving."
Colleagues began whispering and pointing at Serena, their murmurs spreading like wildfire through the office.
Serena grew irritated under her colleagues' curious stares.
Erika's wails grew louder and more hysterical, while the office buzz of gossip swelled around her.
"Erika, you say I seduced your boyfriend. Do you have any proof? If not, stop spreading rumors," Serena warned.
Erika's arrogance instantly crumbled under Serena's sharp rhetorical question. Her eyes darted nervously around the room, her lips trembling as she struggled to keep her composure.
Erika instinctively tucked a strand of hair behind her ear to mask her fluster, muttering under her breath, "Shameless people like you always get exposed in the end."
Serena shot Erika an icy glare and pulled out her phone. "Erika, your slander against me has already crossed the line legally. If you keep spreading these baseless rumors, I'll call the police right now."
"Y-You're calling the police?" Erika stammered, her voice trembling despite her efforts to stay calm. "D-Don't bluff. Like I'm scared of you."
Serena unlocked her phone and immediately dialed 911. "If you're not afraid, let's have the police settle this. Let's see if your malicious slander can hold up in court."
Erika raised her voice in a weak attempt to counter, "W-Who says I'm maliciously slandering? I-I was just telling the truth."
"Facts? Present your so-called evidence. Otherwise, your statements constitute slander. Malicious defamation carries legal consequences," said Serena.
Seeing the situation escalating, several colleagues quickly stepped in to mediate.
"Erika, Serena isn't that kind of person. Maybe it's just a misunderstanding?"
"Come on, Erika, just calm down. Let's talk this out properly."
Finding no evidence, Erika begrudgingly backed off for the time being. As she left, she snarled a menacing threat. "Serena, just you wait."
The onlookers who had gathered to watch the drama quickly dispersed, leaving the office quiet once more.
Seeing that Erika had finally gone, Daisy hurried over to Serena and asked, her face full of concern. "Serena, are you alright? Erika is absolutely outrageous. How dare she slander you like that?"
Seeing Daisy fuming with righteous indignation, Serena gently patted her hand and spoke with a reassuring smile. "I'm fine, really. Don't worry about me. What she said is just nonsense. Don't let it bother you."
"But everyone's gossiping about you. Are you okay?" Erika said.
"Don't worry about it. It's just gossip. Let's just focus on our work." Serena didn't care.
"Serena, Erika is nothing but trouble. You'd better watch out for her from now on," Daisy warned.
"Got it. Thanks, Daisy," Serena smiled gratefully. "Go on, and get back to work. Don't let my situation distract you from your job."
Daisy nodded and, reluctantly, kept glancing back at Serena as she made her way back to her desk.
Serena stared down at the nearly complete design on her computer screen. Frustrated, she ran her fingers through her hair, saved her design draft, and shut down the computer.
Serena decided to take some on-site measurements. Grabbing her tape measure, protractor, and notebook, she stuffed them into her trusty canvas tote and walked out of the office without looking back.
Erika scanned the room but didn't spot Serena. A triumphant smirk curled at the corners of her lips. She sneered, "Hey, where's Ms. Gray? What, chickened out and hiding like a coward?"
Erika sneered sarcastically, her gaze shifting to Daisy, who was absorbed in her work in the corner.
