Early the next morning, Eliza got up early and took extra care getting ready. She walked to Victor's door and knocked gently. "Vic, are you awake?"
"What is it?" Victor asked.
"Can we talk about Leon for a minute?" Eliza entered the room and took a seat beside Victor. "Vic, Leon has been staying at the Powell Manor for several days now. Don't you think it's time we brought him home?"
"Why are you bringing this up all of a sudden?" Victor looked at her, a bit puzzled.
Eliza said softly, "I just feel that if Leon stays at the Powell Manor for too long, he might grow distant from us. And besides, every child needs a father's love. Don't you miss him, Vic?"
Victor remained silent for a moment. He truly missed Leon dearly.
"Vic, are you still upset with me about that time I accidentally fed Leon the steamed egg custard?" Eliza cautiously studied Victor's expression, lightly biting her lower lip with a hint of grievance.
"I know I was wrong. I was just being so careless that day," she added.
"I don't blame you," Victor sighed, gently caressing Eliza's cheek. "Truth be told, I've failed as a father. I didn't even know Leon was allergic to eggs."
Seeing Victor's resistance wavering, Eliza quickly seized the moment. She took his hand and said softly, "Vic, let's bring Leon home. I promise I'll be more careful from now on. Nothing like that will ever happen again."
Victor lowered his head in deep thought, his gaze wavering with uncertainty. 'Leon is still so young, at an age when he needs his daddy by his side.
'Even if he is comfortable with Grandpa, he will always be missing out on a fatherly presence. Maybe Eliza is right.
'I've never been a proper father, and now I'm just dumping my responsibilities on Dad. If this keeps up, it'll only do more harm to Leon's development.'
Victor let out a soft sigh. Since Serena left, he had indeed been neglecting his parental duties. There was still so much he needed to make up for as a father.
Victor raised his gaze to meet Eliza's, his eyes still holding a trace of skepticism, though his resolve was already wavering. He nodded gravely. "You're right. It's time we brought Leon home."
Meanwhile, ever since getting dumped by Jacob, Erika had become totally unhinged, her emotions spiraling out of control.
In the company restroom, Erika stood before the mirror. She turned on the faucet but just stared at the running water, making no move to wash her hands.
She stared at her haggard reflection, eyes glazed yet burning with anger. 'Jacob actually dumped me for that slut Serena?' Erika wondered, 'How dare he choose her over me?'
The restroom door creaked open, and the quiet was broken by the sound of soft footsteps approaching.
Erika instinctively looked up just as she caught a glimpse of Daisy stepping through the door.
Daisy recoiled in fear at the sight of Erika's dark expression. Stammering with fear, Daisy whispered, "H-Hey, Erika."
Without a second thought, Daisy jerked her hand back and whirled around, desperate to escape.
"Stop right there," Erika barked.
Daisy's footsteps came to an abrupt halt, her body frozen in place. When she turned around, her face had gone pale, fear written all over her features.
"E-Erika, I-I just came here to wash my hands," Daisy stammered, her voice trembling.
"Is that so?" Erika slowly advanced, step by step, forcing Daisy into the corner.
Daisy kept backing away until she hit the icy-cold tiled wall, with nowhere left to retreat. She pressed herself against it, trying to make herself as small as possible.
"Look at how pathetic you are. You'd be better off begging on the streets." Erika crossed her arms, her eyes fixed on the trembling Daisy like a venomous snake as she cowered in the corner.
Daisy clenched her jaw, head bowed in stubborn silence. She clutched the hem of her clothes so tightly that her fingertips turned pale.
"Stop playing the victim," Erika sneered. She suddenly lunged forward, snatched a cup from the counter, and smashed it violently onto the floor.
The sharp crack of shattering glass echoed through the room. Daisy flinched slightly but kept silent, refusing to let a single word slip out.
"Say something, damn it," Erika shrieked. Her voice rose sharply as she suddenly lashed out, brutally kicking Daisy in the shin.
Daisy winced in pain, nearly buckling to her knees, but she clenched her teeth and endured it.
Clutching the wall for support, she slowly rose to her feet, her eyes rimmed with red, yet she stubbornly refused to let a single tear fall. "Erika, I haven't done anything wrong."
Erika snapped, "Did nothing wrong? Your mere presence is the ultimate offense."
Daisy remained silent, gripping her own arms tightly.
Seeing Daisy's meek submission only fueled Erika's rage. "Get out. Don't let me see you again. If you do, trust me. I'll make your life a whole lot worse."
Without sparing Erika another glance, Daisy silently turned and walked out the door.
Head still lowered, she hurried back to her workstation. As she passed Serena's desk, she caught a glimpse of a vibrant bouquet of red roses placed prominently on the desk.
By now, Serena's workstation had become the center of attention in the office.
"Wow, who sent these? Roses? How romantic."
"Wow, that's quite the showy display. Those flowers must have cost a fortune."
"Serena is so damn lucky. I'm so jealous."
"You should've seen Erika's face when she walked by just now. She looked absolutely livid."
Serena could already hear the murmurs from outside the office door, but the moment she pushed it open, the once bustling office instantly fell silent.
The whispering colleagues immediately fell silent, all eyes unconsciously drawn to her.
She reached for the bouquet, noticing a small card tucked among the blooms. Pulling it out, she flipped it open to read.
At the sight of Jacob's name on the card, Serena immediately shoved it back into the bouquet, her eyes brimming with nothing but disgust.
Serena strode over to the office trash bin and, without a second thought, tossed the bouquet in.
The afternoon clock chime shattered the brief calm.
Serena squirmed under the weight of furtive glances, feeling as if someone was always secretly watching her.
Apparently, those roses tossed in the trash were still the talk of the office.
Standing at the pantry doorway, Erika's eyes instantly locked onto Jacob as he walked into the office, arms full of vibrant red roses.
Instinctively, she straightened her collar and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear before hurrying toward Jacob.
Jacob walked straight past her without so much as a glance, brushing right by Erika as he headed directly for Serena.
Erika stood frozen in place, her half-raised hand hanging awkwardly in mid-air, while her forced smile abruptly stiffened on her face.
"Ms. Gray, how about dinner tonight? I know this great new restaurant that just opened," Jacob said.
Upon hearing Jacob's voice, Serena's movements hitched. She looked up, her brows instantly knitting in distaste.
She didn't bother standing, just looked up at him from her chair, her tone laced with open disgust. "Sorry, I'm not available."
The office erupted in whispers as colleagues buzzed with gossip, wildly speculating about the love triangle between them.
"Oh, so Jacob sent the flowers. When did those two start dating?"
"But wait? Wasn't Jacob dating Erika? What the hell is going on here?"
