"Mom, it's me." Leon's tender child's voice came from outside the door.
Serena almost reflexively opened the door and then saw Victor and Leon.
She thought, 'Why did they suddenly come over? How did they find my apartment?'
Serena was stunned for a moment, then began to size up Victor and Leon. She gently pushed the door back, as if wanting to close it.
But Leon was one step ahead and hugged Serena's leg. With a sobbing voice, he pleaded, "Mom, I'm sorry. I was wrong. Don't abandon me. Please come home with us."
Victor stood at the door, looking at Serena, and said in a low voice, "I know you're still angry with me, but Leon is your biological son. You can't ignore him."
Looking at Leon crying while hugging her thigh and then at Victor standing at the door, Serena only felt a surge of annoyance. She said, "I've divorced you, and Leon has nothing to do with me now."
Victor became very disappointed. He pointed at Serena, and his voice trembled slightly with anger. "How can you be so heartless? Leon is still so young. How can you say you don't want him? How can there be a mother like you in the world?"
Hearing those words, Serena thought it was extremely ridiculous. This was clearly a guilt-tripping using the child. She forcefully got off Leon's little hand and directly closed the door.
The crying of Leon outside the door grew louder, and Victor kept knocking, but Serena turned a deaf ear. After tidying up the kitchen, she went straight to the bedroom, then closed her eyes, trying hard to block out those annoying sounds.
She remembered how Victor had humiliated her for Eliza. And Leon, the child she had once loved so much, had called her a bad woman and treated her coldly.
Now, Victor and Leon appeared in front of her again, and she would not give them another chance to hurt herself.
I don't know how long it took, but Serena's breathing gradually became steady. She turned onto her side, buried her face slightly in one side of the pillow, and slowly fell into a dream. Her furrowed brows also relaxed.
The night grew deeper, and the streetlights of Nexopolis cast a dim yellow glow. The river flowed quietly, reflecting the lights on both banks. Occasionally, a few cars drove past downstairs, making slight noises, which soon disappeared into the silent night.
In the room, there was only the sound of Serena's breathing. Suddenly, a rapid phone ringtone woke Serena up. She opened her eyes in a daze, frowning slightly, obviously annoyed by the sudden ringtone.
She reached out and fumbled on the bedside table a few times, finally found the phone, and pressed the answer button without even opening her eyes.
She turned her head slightly, and her voice was still hoarse from just waking up. "Who is it?"
"Seri, Leon has a fever. Can you come and see him?" Victor pleaded.
Victor's voice made Serena feel such a strong sense of disgust that she almost wanted to throw the phone away. She couldn't understand how this man could be so shameless. She said, "We're divorced. His business has nothing to do with me."
Victor said, "But—"
"Stop. This is the last time I'll repeat it—don't disturb my life anymore." After saying that, Serena directly hung up the phone and blocked his number.
The next day, Victor stood at the door of Serena's company holding Leon, and surrounding colleagues all curiously watched.
"Whose child is this? He's so cute."
"Yeah, he's really adorable."
"Why is this child at the company door? Where's his mother?"
"I don't know. Maybe there's something wrong."
"Are they here for Serena?"
"Is he Serena's child?"
Several colleagues whispered, constantly sizing up Victor and Leon. When Serena walked to the company door, she found a crowd gathered there, as if discussing something. She thought, 'What's happening?'
While Serena was confused, she suddenly saw Victor standing in the center of the crowd, looking a little tired with slightly red eyes. He was holding Leon with one hand and patting Leon's back reassuringly with the other.
Seeing Serena, Victor took a few steps toward her, and Leon finally saw Serena. He suddenly opened his eyes wide and stretched out his little hand toward Serena.
The moment Serena saw Victor, she instinctively wanted to turn around and leave.
Seeing that Serena was about to turn away, Victor immediately caught up with her and said, "Serena, why are you still so selfish? Leon has a fever."
Victor suddenly grabbed Serena's arm with a hurried and heavy force, making her originally prepared to step forward suddenly stop. He said, "How can you be so heartless? Leon is your biological son."
The pain from her arm made Serena couldn't help frowning. She tried to break free, but Victor held on tighter.
Helplessly, she could only turn around and stare coldly at him. "Victor, we're divorced. Please leave here and don't affect my work."
"Is that Serena's biological son? What's going on here?"
"So Serena was married and has such a big son?"
"I haven't heard any news at all."
"I thought she's been single. She never mentioned having a child."
Colleagues gossiped in various tones while constantly looking at Serena and Victor.
At this time, Stacey, who had been watching the fun, came over and said sarcastically, "Serena, you're married? Why have you never said anything about this? Are you afraid of delaying your flirting with men in the company?"
She deliberately raised her voice and said, "You're really shameless. As a married woman, you still—"
However, a loud slap interrupted Stacey's words. Everyone was stunned and goggled at Serena.
Serena looked coldly at Stacey and said, "Watch your mouth."
"You... How dare you hit me? Did I hit the mark, and you're anxious?" Stacey said.
Serena gave her another slap, then warned, "If you dare to talk nonsense again, it won't be just two slaps."
At this time, a low-key black Maybach stopped at the company door, and Keith got out.
He adjusted his suit jacket, looked at the crowd gathered at the company door, and his eyebrows furrowed tightly.
Keith saw Serena in the crowd at a glance. She was holding her shoulder bag tightly with one hand, her body was tense, and her shoulders were trembling slightly.
