From that day on, Lucas moved into my apartment, becoming my silent companion.
People called him a fool—and maybe he was.
He'd talk to empty air, laughing one moment, crying the next. I listened, unseen, as his cold face crumpled with tears.
The medicine piled up on the table. His body grew thinner. I begged him to take care of himself, but my words never reached him.
For three years, we lived side by side—two ghosts in the same space, divided by something neither of us could cross.
The longer I lingered in this world, the more I faded. Soon, I'd be gone completely.
Lucas still left early, came home late. I never knew where he went—trapped inside those walls, I could only wait.
Then, on the anniversary of my death, he turned on the news before leaving, his gaze lingering where I stood. My soul trembled. Something was wrong.
The broadcast confirmed it: Jason Yu was dead—a hit-and-run, the suspect still at large.
Lucas.
That idiot!
A surge of energy tore me from the apartment, pulling me toward my grave. There he was, slumped against my tombstone, surrounded by empty pill bottles and beer cans.
"Jess," he whispered, tears streaking his face. "I got him for you."
The cemetery was empty. No one saw him dying.
"Lucas!" I screamed. "Don't you dare!"
For a second, his eyes focused—right on me. A slow, peaceful smile curved his lips.
"You came for me."
Then the blade flashed.
"Jessica," he murmured, blood soaking the earth. "Next time... I won't let go."
