The Simpson residence was quiet now—just me and the maids. Finally, some peace without unwanted company.
But of course, it didn't last.
Lucian stormed into my room, clutching my cloth bag, his eyes bloodshot and wild.
That's when I remembered—I'd left it in his car.
He yanked out a diary and a USB drive, his voice raw. "Is this real?"
From the look on his face, he'd already seen everything.
The diary held meticulous notes—memories from both Raina and me, covering our shifts in personality. The flash drive? Proof. Videos, documents, everything from that hellhole of a "special training school," including footage of Raina being beaten and worse.
I stood, cool as ever, and took them back. "You've already read it. Why ask?"
Lucian looked like he'd been gutted. He sank onto the couch, shell-shocked.
After a long silence, he finally spoke, his voice hollow. "The diary says Raina saved me from drowning twelve years ago. Is it true?"
"Every detail—when, where, who—is there. Even the handwriting proves it's not some recent fabrication."
"I always wondered why Elaine's memories were so fuzzy. Now I know why..."
He buried his face in his hands and broke down.
I inspected my freshly done nails, utterly indifferent. "You're pathetic. You condemned your own fiancée based on Elaine's sleep-talking. Then, without a shred of proof, you decided Raina was tormenting her."
I lifted my gaze, pinning him with it. "Honestly, do you think Raina—weak as she was—could've laid a finger on Elaine?"
Lucian went still. The tears stopped.
This proud, arrogant man suddenly dropped to his knees in front of me and started slapping himself—hard. "I failed Raina. I'm sorry."
The sharp cracks of his palm against his face filled the room until I got bored.
"Don't wreck my place. Get out."
He looked up, desperate. "Please—let Raina take over. I need to see her. I have to apologize."
I laughed—cold, mocking. "You think an apology fixes everything she's suffered this past year?"
His head bowed, shame swallowing him whole. "I'll do anything to make it right."
