As the propeller roared to life, passengers started griping about the attraction's bizarre rule, everyone throwing in their two cents.
Some said the owner had a family feud and was targeting people named Smith.
Others claimed the owner's ex-girlfriend was a Smith, and he made this rule out of spite after getting dumped.
My perpetually single, forever-bachelor idiot brother having an ex-girlfriend?
That'd be a miracle!
I just listened without saying a word.
I knew that even if I told them the real reason, they'd never believe me.
Because behind this weird rule was a blood-soaked truth—
Anyone with the surname Smith who sets foot in these waters will die a violent death.
If there's a Smith on the boat, everyone aboard will die.
Too few people believe in this supernatural stuff.
I kept my head down, thinking about what had happened on Lake Lanier before, completely missing how the water was slowly turning black, and even the sky was gradually losing its light.
Suddenly, a bad feeling hit me like a punch to the gut.
I jerked my head up, a chill running down my spine.
I quickly sped up toward the center of the lake, but the boat seemed to have a mind of its own, moving slower and slower.
Something was seriously wrong!
A Smith had snuck onto the boat!
I stood up and moved to the bow, my voice turning vicious: "There's someone with the surname Smith on this boat! Come out now!"
Everyone was startled by my dark expression, not knowing what was happening, just staring at each other in confusion.
When they didn't move, I shouted: "Marcus, check everyone's IDs one by one!"
Marcus started nodding frantically and began verifying documents.
Some people in the crowd complained: "We already got checked when we bought tickets. Why check again?"
Others got annoyed and refused to cooperate with Marcus.
My eyes blazed with fury as I bellowed: "Anyone who won't cooperate gets thrown overboard!"
The uncooperative passengers looked shocked. "Are you insane? You'll throw us in the lake just for not showing ID?!"
"Better one person dies than everyone dies together." My gaze turned menacing, and when I said this, the person visibly shuddered before finally handing over their ID to Marcus.
Soon enough, Marcus finished checking everyone and came over to me: "Freya, everyone checks out."
Impossible!
The lake water had turned completely black, and the sky was losing all its light—there was definitely someone named Smith on this boat!
"You've checked all the IDs, can we please get moving? What's with all this stalling!"
Just then, the boat stopped dead in the water.
I shot a cold smile at the complainer. "Take a look for yourself—can this boat even move anymore?"
That's when the passengers finally noticed something was seriously wrong.
"Holy shit! What's happening? The boat stopped!"
"Look over there! We could see the island just a minute ago—where did it go?"
Everyone followed the voice and looked ahead.
The Blossom Isle that had been clearly visible moments before had vanished without a trace.
Someone turned around, looking toward shore: "This doesn't make sense. We barely left the dock—why can't we see the shore anymore?"
"What the hell, why is everything around us black? Black fog! Is that black fog?!"
"Jesus Christ, look at the water under the boat—why is it so black?!"
Everyone on the boat completely freaked out.
I stared intensely at the crowd: "The person named Smith needs to come forward voluntarily, or everyone on this boat is going to die!"
At this point, I had nothing left to hide.
They were about to discover the lake's horrifying nature anyway.
"Miss, what exactly is going on? What's happening?!"
The moment he finished speaking, the boat suddenly started rocking.
"What's going on? There's no wind—why is the boat rocking!"
The boat rocked harder and harder.
Some people got thrown to the deck, clinging desperately to the floor, too scared to lift their heads.
The rest gripped the boat's edge and seats tightly to avoid getting tossed overboard.
"Ahhh!"
A blood-curdling scream rang out, and everyone immediately looked toward the woman at the boat's edge.
"There's a hand under the boat grabbing me!!!"
