There's a half-naked goddess sculpture in my husband's art studio—the room I'm never allowed to enter.
Two months after I gave birth, Caelum suddenly got obsessed with drawing this half-naked goddess sculpture.
He'd spend over twenty-nine days out of every month holed up in there. Crumpled sketches everywhere, stacked to the ceiling.Even our daughter Lyra cried and he didn’t spare a glance.
I couldn't take it anymore so I asked for a divorce.
Everyone just stared at me like I'd lost my mind.
His father Vicent shook his head in disbelief. "You're just divorcing him because he likes to draw?"
"Because it’s a naked goddess sculpture!" I shot back.
His mother Moria went raged.
"Are you kidding me right now?My son works his ass off to support this family! So what if he wants to unwind with some art? You can't handle the baby for a few hours?Hire a damn nanny. It's not that big a deal."
I didn't say any word. Just sat there, dead set on divorcing.
That's when Caelum totally lost it, staring me down like he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"Seriously, Serapha? I haven't cheated on you. I haven't dated with another woman!I haven't done anything wrong! Yeah,I've just been neglected you a little because I'm into this new hobby—and now you try to destroy our marriage? Are you out of your mind?"
His eyes were red with frustration.
Everyone started calling me crazy, saying I was some psycho control freak.
I just laughed—cold as ice—and pointed straight at his precious studio.
"Well, if that statue's all you need to keep you happy.Fine, have it your way."
……
I slammed the freshly signed divorce papers onto the table.
"Sign it."
Caelum looked like he'd been hit by a truck, his eyes getting all red and watery.
"Serapha!"
"What's gotten into you? Yeah, I've been spending time in my studio this month painting—I get it, I've been distant. My fault. Can't we work this out?"
His voice was strained, but his words were laced with impatience as he accused me.
"Did you really have to force me sign it in front of everybody?"
I glanced around the room.
Today was our fifth anniversary.
Caelum had organized this big family dinner to "celebrate"—he wanted everyone have a good time.
But all night, he hadn't even glanced my way.
Even the champagne toast, he cheered with his childhood friend Zephyra instead of me.
I was so boring this whole act.
"If you're worried about embarrassing yourself in front of everyone, then just sign the papers."
I said it flat and cold, without explain everything.
The whole room went dead quiet.
All our friends and family just felt stunned "what the hell?"
For five years, everyone thought we were the perfect couple—totally crazy about each other.
Caelum's face went pale, and he got this deep crease between his eyebrows.
"Please...I'm begging you here."
He leaned in closer, his voice all scratchy and desperate.
"Serapha, whatever's going on,we need talk about it at home. Don't do this in front of my parents—they're gonna worried."
I jerked my hand away from him.
"Don't touch me!"
Vicent slammed his wine glass down so hard I thought it might break, and Moria's face went dark.
When I pushed Caelum, he stumbled and fell right into Zephyra's arms.
"What the fuck?" Zephyra lost it.
She stormed up to me, practically screaming in my face.
"Did you forget when you were pregnant and covered in stretch marks, Caelum came home every night—no matter how late—and rubbed that cream on your belly? He did that for a whole year!"
"Did you forget how he drove five hours to get you those pancake you were craving? Now the baby's here and he just wants to paint a little, and you're throwing a fit? Talk about controlling!"
"So what if he's not babysitting 24/7? You're the mom—you're right here! Can't the guy catch a break? You want to divorce him over this stupid stuff? Have you lost your mind?"
Zephyra was acting all righteous, painting me as this ruthless wife who didn't appreciate her husband.
She cursed at me and tried to slap me at the same time.
But I dodged before she could touch me.
I stared her down with a cold smile.
"How do you know what my husband does to my body at night? You two tell each other everything or what?"
Zephyra got all flustered. "That's just common sense! They all know here!"
Everyone nodded.
Vicent put on his serious face.
"Serapha, you can't just blow up your marriage like this. When you were pregnant, Caelum took care of you like nobody's business. Now you have a baby, you couldn't divorce."
Moria looked pissed, giving me this suspicious look.
"I knew you're a bitch actually. Now you want a divorce out of nowhere? You must date with someone else, right?"
"Just tell us who this asshole is. Is he pushing you to make it official? Or is he the one pressuring you to get a divorce? Is that why you're trying to leave my son?"
She rolled up her sleeves like she was ready to fight.
Then she patted Caelum's shoulder. "Don't worry, honey. Mom's gonna get rid of this jerk and keep Serapha there."
I just laughed coldly.
"Look,I was never the problem."
"Whatever you talk. I'm getting divorced today."
Caelum's eyes were all red and puffy.
He took a deep breath and grabbed my hands.
"Baby, just tell me what's wrong.Don't you remember our wedding vows?"
Watching him put on this loving act made me sick.
"DROP THE ACT!"
"Get away from me!"
I pushed Caelum away in disgust. He grunted and hit the floor, scraping up his elbow.
"I’ve put up with you long enough,Serapha!"
Zephyra pointed at me, her face full of hate.
"If you divorce Caelum today, I swear I'll teach you a lesson!"
"You ungrateful bitch!I'd rather see Caelum better lost you than goes through a divorce and becomes the hot topic!"
