I was not a good singer so I wondered if I was actually doing more harm than good.
He tried his best to keep his little eyelids open but was fighting a losing battle. His eyes shut slowly and he poked his lip out and started drooling. I smiled at him and placed him into his crib whiling the trail of saliva with his bib. It was a good move separating the kids since Ozias tended to need less sleep and would cry the most. Maddox slept almost twenty hours a day which we didn't complain about while Calloway was in the middle. I walked out of his room making sure his video monitor was on before shutting his door. When I was finally got out of the room I took a breath of relief. It was two weeks and Elm wasn't to lift anything heavy and I wanted him to take it easy since I was on paternity leave for six more weeks and was determined to make the most of it.
I was enjoying being a Father and soon to be Husband. We had discussed a wedding something small at the beach when the boys were at least able to sit up on their own. I walked downstairs to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. We were stocked with casseroles and other foods from our neighbors who invited the children to the community. We were lucky enough to live in a very progressive neighborhood where same-sex parenting wasn't too rare. I grabbed the casserole dish filled with seafood lasagna that Elm's brother Pine made and dropped off earlier and scooped some out onto two plates. I popped one in the microwave and took the time to put everything away before removing the cooked food and placing the other plate inside. Yawning I checked the doors to make sure they were locked and then set the alarm. When the house was secure I went back for the food and made my way back to the bedroom.
Elm had the remote in one hand and a glass of cranberry juice in the other. The baby monitor screens were on top of the covers and I saw him glance down at them. He looked good laying there shirtless and colored by the lights of the television that played some survival show on the discovery channel. He had snapped back rather quickly due to him not being that big, to begin with. I walked over and handed him his plate and fork. He looked up and smiled at me with a glimmer in his eyes. I loved how he looked at me like I was the only man in the world for him.
"Thank you, Marco," he said as I slipped into the cover on my side of the bed.
"Your welcome," I responded after taking a bite from my food and taking the remote from him. He loved boring ass television and I couldn't stand it.
"You know I can handle putting them to sleep," he said placing his cranberry juice on the side table.
"I know but I want to bond with them while I'm still home," I said changing the channel to Boomerang where Tom and Jerry were playing.
"Seriously I hate this show," Elm said with a mouth full of food.
"Yes seriously, this show is the height of comedy," I said in all seriousness. I went for another bite if food but realized the plate was empty and placed the empty plate on the side table.
"It's a mouse and a cat beating the hell out of each other," Elm said.
"A classic," I said.
"How has the search for Tyler gone,"Elm asked me changing the subject when he realized he wasn't going to sway my opinion.
"Well, there's this website for sibling separated by adoption to look for each other. Tyler looked at me for a while I was overseas but the agency couldn't find me and made his account. I'm just hoping he checks it at some point since I messaged him. I don't care if he's mad at me and cusses me out I just want to know he's okay," I said getting up and walking over to the dresser where the bottle warmers were held. We had to go with a Milkshare program where we bought breast milk from a woman willing to donate milk to same-sex couples. It was weird for like an hour until the boys took to it. They didn't like the formula at all and cried for hours on end until we consulted Dr.Nisbalm who said to try using breast milk. I made sure the machines were on before walking away and grabbing the empty plates to run them down to the dishwasher and back to the room. I looked around and saw Elm was in the bathroom brushing his teeth. I walked up behind him and leaned down to kiss his shoulder the reached for my toothbrush and squeeze some toothpaste on the bristles and wet the brush. I started brushing my teeth while looking at Elm through the mirror and wondered what I did to deserve him.
"Stop staring at me," he said after leaning over pushing and pushing himself onto me. I had to restrain myself from ripping his clothes off since we had to wait another week before we could get back to having sex. This time with him under the effects of his birth control shot.
Instead of ravishing his body I leaned over and spit into the sink and lifted Elm up placing my brush on the counter while doing it. I was gentle as I sat him on the counter facing me and walked in between his legs. His hand went to his scar in order to hide it. I grabbed his hand.
"Honey stop that it's not a bad thing," I said to him and kissed his cheek after he put his head down.
"It's ugly I can't wait to get it covered up," he said to me in his soft voice.
"No it's not, every time I see it I'm reminded of the risk and the sacrifices you made in order for us to have a family," I said reaching my hands to his ass and sliding him closer.
"As far as I'm concerned nothing you do isn't perfect," I said and kissed him.
"I doubt it," he said laying his head on my chest.
"Believe it," I said to him.
"I was thinking yesterday we should get this wedding over and done with. I don't need a service I just need you and our kids there with us as we join as one. I mean your family should come since they would never forgive us if we were to elope," I told Elm looking into his eyes.
"You're serious," he asked.
"I promise you, I'm thinking about going after the boys have their next checkup. I want to make everything official I want to make you Elm Tafferty," I told him. I slowly lifted him off if the counter and carried him to the bed where I laid on my back letting him lay on top of me.
"I love you," I said between butterfly kisses. He giggled at me before kissing me back.
"I love you too," he said and kissed me again.
'Life couldn't get any better,' I thought just as the sound of a baby crying played through one of the monitors.
