I was cursing myself as I was in the process of breaking major traffic laws. I was weaving in and out of traffic with me car majorly surprised that blue lights weren't flashing in my rearview mirror. I had left my meeting to at least five phone calls from each of my family members and a few texts that caused me to drop my coffee mug and run to my car to get to the hospital.
It felt like nothing was moving quickly enough. Even when I made it to the hospital, hopped out of my car, and sprinted inside the building that smelled like any other hospital and was just as frigid as outside. I was looking for my family who said they were in the Emergency waiting room. After roaming all the permitted areas I decided to try to follow the overhead arrows to the waiting room. When I finally had made it to the area I saw everyone sitting in silence around Elm who was crying his heart out. I moved swiftly to his side and grabbed him by the chair pulling him into my arms. He latched onto me and openly sobbed while I held him several inches in the air. After a few minutes, I sat down with him knowing that nothing I could say would ease his sadness. He cried so hard that he ended up falling to sleep in my arms and I could feel warm liquid running down my face which I couldn't immediately recognize as my own tears. With Elm asleep, I looked up and surveyed the people around me. Maddox sat with Wylder and they were holding hands as he looked at the doors that were only for official personnel. Ozias and Beo were next to Alder and his family who all had tears in their eyes. My brother was next to Elm's father and step-mother with Pine who seemed to be unable to stop bouncing his leg.
"What are the doctors doing," I asked openly for anyone to answer.
"He's dehydrated, malnourished, his blood sugar is low... He hadn't been taking care of himself and he is... pregnant about a month they believe," Alder said to me and it felt like my heart had broken. This is not what I wanted for him I knew I should have killed Germany when I was first introduced to him. I wasn't granted to very minimal time it would have taken to let my anger fume and boil over because Dr. Farah came out of the doors and walked over to us. Everyone stood but I didn't want to wake Elm if it was for bad news, I wanted him to rest because he couldn't get stressed because he was carrying two more of our children.
"He's fine as well as the baby, we had to pump him with fluids but he's going to be okay, we'll have to get him started on a pregnancy plan so this won't happen again. If he doesn't eat or drink the right things in the right amount the baby will take what he/she needs from his body. I can take two of you guys in so you can see him, but he is resting right now," She spoke to all of us.
"I'm going in and I want to do this alone," I said.
"Are you sure Marco," my little brother asked.
"Yeah, I just need to see him for myself," I said aloud. I gently maneuvered my husband off of me and onto the seat so that I could stand up and wipe my tears.
"I'll be back please watch out for him," I said to everyone before Dr. Farah led me down to the hall in silence. I looked into a few open doors at family's who had lost people or were crying tears of joy at their loved ones that were healed. When we finally made it to Calloway's room I wasn't sure what I was going into.
"He probably won't wake until the morning, but he's going to pull through," She said to me before nodding and walking away. After I took a deep breath I stepped into my room where my son lay in the bed asleep. The IV was pumping fluid into him and his breathing looked even but still, it was hard to see my child laying in a hospital bed at the age of fifteen with a child growing inside of him. In the corner of the room was a chair that I pulled to the side of his bed and sat down next to him looking at his face. I gently placed my palm on his forehead that was warm to the touch.
"This can't ever happen again. You don't get to put yourself in this kind of danger, you aren't given the permission to die on me. You're apart of my dream... as a child in foster homes I would dream about having my own family, write it down in my notebooks and pray for a family of my home and now I have it. I didn't think it would happen the way that it has happened but it has turned out better than any fable or fairytale. You aren't allowed to scare me like this... it's not fair for you to have your dad crying himself to sleep or have all of your family worrying about you," I whispered to him then pointed to his tummy.
"You too, you're here a lot earlier than expected but you don't get to die either. I'll make sure your dad does what he has to to get you into the world but you have to be patient with us. There is a lot going on right now that has your family stressed and we're going to need you to make this pregnancy easy from here on out, okay. If you can do this for me I promise you'll be the most spoiled grandchild on the planet," I said then just looked at Calloway worrying. Before I knew it a nurse was at the door and told me that visiting hours were over. Nodding I stood up and bent over and laced a kiss on my son's forehead then left out to the waiting room where everyone was still sitting. Elm had woken up and got up and walked over to me.
"He's okay and the baby is okay," I said to him and pulled him into my arms for a hung which he returned firmly. When he pulled away I placed my hands on his stomach and looked into his eyes.
"They're fine just kicking a lot," he said then pulled away and walked over to his father who was coming towards us. His dad said something softly to him before coming to me.
"Is everything okay," he asked me immediately.
"He's going to be fine but we need to handle London and Germany as soon as possible. I don't care how but I'm done with this bullshit," I said to him with this fierce determination.
"Okay good, while you were in there I got the word from one of my detectives who have been working this case for me that they might have found where he's been staying while he is here. We would barge in but he's been staying at the Moroccan embassy which complicates things. We don't know how or why they are letting him remain there but we have been tracking his movements to see if even crosses the road illegally so we can pick him up and get some of his DNA to match it to previous samples we have gotten from him. We're going to catch him soon and as for Germany I've had a few people looking into him for about a week and he's careful with his movements which means he has something to hide. A few years ago we could have picked him up for statutory rape but Congress passed that bill lowering the age of consent to fifteen in California so he's safe in that aspect. We should have both of them within a week, I promise you that," he said to me and I nodded filled with hope that all of this pain would be over soon.
