The photo hit me like a punch to the gut.
That's why Julian had instinctively called me "Mom" earlier.
That's why Adrian had pulled strings to get me hired.
This was all Adrian's doing—his twisted little game.
Blind fury surged through me. I tore through the villa, searching for him, ready to unleash hell. But he was nowhere.
Where the hell had he gone?
Panic set in. I burst outside, my heart hammering—only to freeze at the sight before me.
Julian.
Standing on the edge of the neighboring villa's roof, his silhouette stark against the sky. One wrong step, and he'd be gone.
The video. He must have seen it.
"Julian!" I screamed, but the wind swallowed my voice.
I sprinted toward the villa, past the gathering security. No one stopped me.
"Don't jump! Please!" Guilt clawed at my throat. This was my fault—no, Adrian's fault.
I kept running, begging, until I reached the rooftop.
And there he was. Adrian.
His dark eyes flickered with surprise. "What are you doing here?"
Before I could spit my rage at him, he closed the distance, voice low and urgent. "Julian saw the news. He's shattered. You're the only one who can reach him now."
I glared, my voice venomous. "Because I look like his mother?"
I expected denial. Shame. Anything but the cold, calculated calm in his gaze.
"Exactly," he said, unflinching. "That's why he'll listen to you."
My stomach twisted. This bastard had orchestrated everything—the bag, the scandal, this—and now he had the audacity to act like some concerned savior?
I opened my mouth to tear into him—
But Julian's voice cut through the air, raw and broken. "Stay back!"
He inched closer to the edge, phone trembling in his hand. The screen glowed with hate, a relentless tide of cruelty.
"I have nothing left," he whispered. Then, to Adrian: "I know you brought her to help me. But I can't… I can't do this anymore."
A hollow smile.
A step back.
And then—
He was gone.
The world stopped.
That moment—the despair in his eyes, the way he just… let go—would haunt me forever.
I couldn't move. Couldn't breathe.
Adrian's roar shattered the silence. "No!" He lunged for the railing, staring down in horror before bolting past me without a word.
Sirens wailed. Police swarmed. Reporters clamored at the gates.
I collapsed to the ground, numb.
Later, the hospital confirmed it: Julian was alive. Barely.
Then the realization hit me like a freight train.
Wait.
Julian had said Adrian was helping him.
How?
Adrian had used me to destroy him.
So why would Julian think this was for his own good?
