Holding a wide squat, the most basic exercise, proved challenging for Eliza as her legs began to burn after only fifteen minutes.
"Still holding up okay?" Nolan asked, noticing the sheen of sweat on her forehead.
Eliza gritted her teeth, her voice firm despite the strain, "I can do it."
Nolan watched her closely, correcting her posture when needed and watching for any signs of strain on her face. He remained neutral, offering neither encouragement nor discouragement.
As another fifteen minutes passed, Nolan asked, "Still doing okay?"
Eliza, arms trembling as she held them up, bit down hard and forced out, "I... can." Her limbs felt heavy as lead, but she refused to give in.
Surprise flickered in Nolan's eyes, but he nodded again, acknowledging her determination. When almost another fifteen minutes had passed, Nolan said, "Alright, that's enough for now. Take a break."
Eliza, her face and hair drenched in sweat, was determined to push herself harder. "I can still—"
"No, you can't," Nolan interrupted, gently tapping her head. "Take it slow and steady. Don't overdo it."
Upon understanding, Eliza ceased her insistence, but her attempt to move resulted in a near fall as her stiff body betrayed her.
"Careful!" Nolan's sharp voice came just in time. He'd been watching her closely and caught her before she could fall. "Easy does it—bring your arms and legs slowly. There's no rush," he said, his voice steady and reassuring.
With his help, Eliza stretched her arms back stiffly, extended her body slightly, and carefully lowered herself onto the stone bench.
"You're fitter than I expected! We'll ramp up the training a bit tomorrow, but make sure you get a good night's sleep and stretch before bed so you're not sore in the morning," Nolan advised.
Eliza chuckled. "There's no need to worry, Your Highness. I'll recover quickly."
She was practically invincible after soaking in the magical water for so long. She secretly wished Nolan would push her harder during their training. After all, with the magical water readily available in her pocket farm, even the most grueling workout would be washed away by morning.
Nolan was oblivious to Eliza's secret, carefully tailoring her training plan to avoid overexertion and potential injury. However, he soon detected something amiss.
Nolan quickly learned that Eliza's remarkable recovery wasn't just talk. He pushed her harder each day, but no matter how tiring the training, she was always back, full of energy and ready for more. Realizing this, Nolan knew he could push Eliza to her limits without holding back.
"Dedication can overcome any obstacle. Let's see if we can elevate your abilities," he said, a hint of challenge in his voice. He then redesigned her training plan. This time, he based Eliza's training entirely on the Black Flag's grueling military program.
She was pushed to her absolute limit daily, her muscles aching in protest, but the results were undeniable. Eliza's dedication to training, combined with the effects of the magical water, led to a rapid increase in her stamina and strength.
Nolan suddenly asked one day, "Make sure you keep up with this basic training. By the way, do you have a preferred weapon?"
Eliza paused, a smile gracing her lips as she retrieved the Meridian Revival Technique needles Renee had brought. "This," she declared, "is my weapon."
Nolan's eyebrow arched slightly. "Needles as weapons? Fitting," he remarked, picking one up for closer inspection. "Are these poisoned?"
"Yes," Eliza replied immediately. "It's a sedative I developed. Don't let its size fool you—even a small amount in the bloodstream can render someone unconscious instantly."
Nolan nodded, approving. "Good start! It seems you've already got some ideas. My role is to help you develop a strong physical foundation."
"I have a few ideas, Your Highness, though they depend on what I can achieve with my needles. Are you familiar with the Flying Needle technique?"
"Lawrence's technique is truly one-of-a-kind," Nolan remarked. "While he may not excel in combat, he developed his own 'Flying Needle' technique, which is surprisingly effective for self-defense."
Eliza's eyes sparkled with excitement.
Nolan offered, "I can ask him for you if you're interested."
"No, I'll visit him personally," Eliza declared, eager to learn. She understood that acquiring such a unique skill required a display of genuine interest. "Your Highness," she inquired, turning to Nolan with a thoughtful frown, "do you happen to know anything about Lord Larson's preferences?"
Nolan knew what he was talking about. He arched an eyebrow. "He's interested in medicinal herbs, just like you."
Eliza understood right away. She replied, "Okay, I'll prepare a small gift and visit Lord Larson tomorrow."
Nolan smiled faintly. "No need to go to his place. He's usually at the Prince Regent's estate, in the pharmacy there. Unless he's asleep."
Eliza nodded, deciding to bring an extra gift to the Prince Regent's estate. She wanted to thank Nolan for the combat skills he had taught her.
After Nolan left, Eliza spent the evening carefully choosing two gifts: a Scarce Shroom and the Bloodshade Blossom she had been saving for a long time.
