The moment Eliza said those words, Gabriel's face turned as dark as a thundercloud.
Matthew swung his fist and slammed it against the gate with a loud "bang," his eyes filled with a menacing glare. "What did you just say? Say it again if you've got the guts!"
Seeing Gabriel and Matthew wearing identical expressions of fury and their resemblance became even more striking, Eliza sneered inwardly.
Like father, like son, indeed.
To think she shared the same disgusting bloodline—it was utterly revolting.
Eliza lazily lifted her eyelids and said, "If your hearing is failing with age, Lord Mowbay, I don't mind repeating myself."
She didn't even spare Matthew a glance, her sharp words aimed squarely at Gabriel.
Her complete disregard for Matthew was like throwing gasoline on a fire, making his fury explode.
"Eliza! Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Matthew instinctively reached for his dagger, but before he could draw it, a sharp and oppressive aura of killing intent swept down from above.
Gabriel and Matthew immediately sensed the danger and looked up. To their shock, a shadowy figure had silently appeared on the rooftop behind Eliza.
Tina stood there, her long sword gleaming coldly in her hand. Her frosty gaze pierced through the mask, silently warning them: make a move on anyone here, and it'll be the last thing you do.
Having already experienced Tina's terrifying skills, both Gabriel and Matthew couldn't help but show a flicker of fear on their faces.
Gabriel withdrew his gaze and gestured for Matthew to stay quiet. Then, with a calm expression, he turned to Eliza. "I may be old, but my hearing is still sharp. Honestly, I wish it wasn't, after hearing such cold and heartless words from you."
Eliza let out a faint scoff, her eyes indifferent.
Renee stepped forward silently and poured her a fresh cup of coffee.
Gabriel's gaze lingered on Eliza. "It's been years since you left everything behind. Can't we just sit down and have a proper conversation for once?"
"Sit down and have a proper conversation?" Eliza murmured his words, her lips curling into a sarcastic smile. "Don't you think that's the most ridiculous thing you've ever said, my... oh-so-loving 'father'?
"Everything that's happened between me and the rest of the Stonor family—wasn't it all part of your grand plan? Or are you really trying to claim that the all-powerful Duke of Mowbay couldn't even manage the relationships between his own children?
"You didn't bother to step in because you were playing a masterful game of strategy. And when the game ended, the pieces you didn't need anymore were simply discarded. For someone like you, who only cares about power and profit, it's only natural to sweep away the useless ones, isn't it?
"And the first piece to be swept away was, of course, me—the one who's utterly useless to you and even stands in the way of your beloved daughter. After all, as long as I'm alive, your illegitimate daughter will always remain illegitimate. So, under your careful scheming, I was supposed to die long ago, wasn't I?"
Matthew, standing by the door, frowned slightly at her words, while Gabriel narrowed his eyes.
"Eliza, I don't know who's been filling your head with these ideas, or maybe I've made mistakes in the past. But to think I'd ever harm you—how could you believe that? I'm your father."
"Don't use that title in front of me."
A flicker of unease rose in Gabriel's heart. He couldn't shake the feeling that Eliza had uncovered something, but the more wary he became, the more he wanted to stabilize the situation. Yet Eliza cut him off without hesitation.
She looked at him coldly. "You gave up the right to call yourself that a long time ago."
"Eliza! Watch your tone! Even if you're the Holy Lady now, you can't change the fact that you are his daughter. Don't forget—you carry the Stonor family's blood!" Matthew said.
"Who says that can't change?" Eliza sneered. "That is about to change very soon. But let's get to the point, Lord Mowbay. You still haven't made your choice. So, who will it be?"
The emotional appeal failed. The threats failed.
Back to square one. Gabriel's gaze turned icy.
Eliza, however, acted as if she didn't notice, her mood light as she pressed him further. "I don't have all day, Lord Mowbay. Make your decision quickly, or we're done talking."
She smiled sweetly at Gabriel. "Oh, and my 'dear brother'? I bet his time's running out, isn't it?"
Matthew spat in disgust, his face twisted with rage. "Benedict doesn't have a sister as vile as you!"
"True, I'm vile, but I'm nothing compared to Sophie. After all, she's the one who poisoned Benedict with her own hands—and with deadly toxins, no less."
She shot Matthew a disdainful glance and chuckled. "Oh, and let's not forget, she poisoned you, too. What's the matter? Did the poison rot your brain? Can't remember a thing?"
"Sophie is none of your concern!" Matthew opened his mouth to argue further but ultimately fell silent, glaring at Eliza with unbridled hatred.
"Forget it, Father," Matthew finally said, his voice bitter and trembling with frustration. "She's just toying with us. She probably doesn't even have the Snow Lotus or the century-old Purple Shroom anymore. Instead of wasting time on her, we should send people out to search elsewhere."
Matthew turned to leave.
But even after taking several steps, the silence behind him was unsettling.
He turned back and saw Gabriel still standing there, motionless.
"Father?" Matthew frowned and called out again.
"Eliza, do you have the Snow Lotus or the century-old Purple Shroom? Shouldn't you show me what you've got before I make a decision?" Gabriel suddenly spoke, his voice calm and devoid of emotion.
Eliza immediately caught on to his intentions, a mocking and disdainful smile curling at the corners of her lips. "Renee, bring it out and let him inspect the goods."
"Yes," Renee said.
Renee quickly retrieved a medium-sized wooden box from Eliza's room.
She placed it on the stone table beside Eliza and opened it, revealing a Snow Lotus inside.
From several meters away, Renee only allowed Gabriel a brief glance before closing the box again.
Even with just that fleeting look, Gabriel could tell the Snow Lotus was genuine, and its quality far surpassed the one Fletcher had offered earlier.
A complicated expression flickered across Gabriel's face.
He hadn't expected Eliza to have another Snow Lotus in her possession.
Until now, Gabriel had assumed Eliza only had the one from Fletcher. If she had another, it meant she hadn't used any Snow Lotus in the beauty soup served to the ladies.
That would have given him room to manipulate the situation.
But now, the Snow Lotus in Eliza's hands was a completely different one.
With no other options left, Gabriel was forced to make a decision.
He let out a long sigh, then turned to Matthew. Seeing the unease in Matthew's eyes, he spoke with a mix of helplessness and guilt, "Matthew, Benedict is still waiting."
