Meanwhile, back at the Stonor family estate.
The butler cautiously pushed open the study door and stepped inside, standing nervously in front of the desk.
"Did you find it?" Gabriel's voice was cold and sharp.
The butler immediately lowered his head, his voice trembling slightly. "Your Grace, the servants have searched every corner of the Duke's estate, but we still haven't found the item you mentioned."
Gabriel's expression turned even darker, his gaze icy and piercing.
"Did anyone notice anything suspicious near my study or around the estate?" he demanded.
The butler shook his head again, his voice barely audible. "No, nothing unusual was discovered."
Gabriel let out a cold, mocking laugh, his tone dripping with disdain. "Nothing found, and no suspicious individuals spotted. What good are you all?!"
He slammed his palm onto the desk, his fury erupting like a storm. "That elixir was right here in this study! I step out for a moment, and now it's gone! What's next? Are you going to tell me this estate has a thieving spirit?"
The butler flinched, his head bowed low, hands trembling as he stood frozen under Gabriel's wrath. He dared not utter a word, knowing full well that this storm was far from over.
But this was no ordinary matter.
Gabriel's veins bulged as he gritted his teeth, his voice cutting through the room like a blade. "Keep searching! If you can't find it, don't bother coming back alive!"
The butler's heart skipped a beat at those words.
He thought, 'What exactly has Lord Mowbay lost to cause such a reaction?
'Could it be something so dangerous it could cost someone their life?'
He speculated nervously, but little did he know, the truth was far worse than he imagined.
The scandal involving the Hall of Eternity hadn't surfaced yet, but if it ever did, that item would be the death sentence for the entire Duke's estate.
Gabriel slammed his fist on the desk, cursing under his breath, "Idiots!"
If it were just an ordinary pill, it wouldn't have been a big deal.
The real issue was that this particular pill had been personally purchased by Matthew.
Whether they liked it or not, the Duke's estate was now entangled with the Hall of Eternity.
This was a matter that could be seen as both trivial and catastrophic.
If handled poorly, it could bring ruin to everyone in the Duke's estate.
Gabriel had planned to quietly deal with the pill and make it disappear.
But to his shock, he turned his back for just a brief moment, and the pill he had left on the desk had vanished without a trace.
Gabriel broke out in a cold sweat almost instantly.
He immediately ordered the entire estate to be sealed off, forbidding anyone from entering or leaving, and summoned the butler to conduct a thorough search of the premises.
Gabriel had returned so quickly that it seemed impossible for anyone to have escaped in such a short amount of time.
They just couldn't find it, no matter how hard they searched.
Gabriel had been holed up in the study for nearly an entire day, but no good news came his way.
His voice was cold and sharp, like a blade cutting through the air. "Are you absolutely certain every corner of the estate has been searched?"
The butler was about to nod when something seemed to occur to him. After a brief hesitation, he said, "We haven't checked Mrs. Stonor's room yet."
He was referring to Caroline Stonor's room.
That room had been locked for years. Logically, there was no way a thief could have gotten in.
But with every other place thoroughly searched and still no sign of the missing item, suspicion inevitably turned toward that room.
Gabriel frowned slightly at the suggestion.
He didn't want the servants barging into Caroline's room and disturbing her peace.
