Eliza's heart skipped a beat when she saw the royal decree in Nolan's hand.
She furrowed her brow, her eyes narrowing as she guessed, "This decree... is about me?"
Nolan nodded. "Yes."
Upon hearing Nolan's confirmation, Eliza let out a sigh of relief.
A royal decree was issued, which meant the matter was set in stone.
A bad news that couldn't be changed. Since it was about her, she no longer needed to rush.
Eliza calmly said, "Then tell me about Diana first. What's happened to her?"
Could it be that the people in Hasen City couldn't hold back and dared to harm Diana there?
Nolan said, "The news of Diana being chosen as the queen has already spread throughout Hasen City. At the same time, Raisa has been selected as well. Seven days from now, during Diana's coronation, Raisa will enter the palace as a concubine."
"Raisa?" Eliza paused, realizing that this was Isabelle's current identity.
She hadn't understood why the Henderson family had changed Isabelle's identity and brought her back.
But now, hearing this news, everything clicked into place.
It seemed the Henderson family had long planned for Isabelle to enter the palace, and their aim was likely the Queen's position. Otherwise, they wouldn't have gone so far as to elevate Isabelle's illegitimate status to legitimate.
But they probably hadn't expected that the King and the Empress Dowager had already chosen Diana.
So the mastermind behind all of this was undoubtedly the Henderson family.
"What exactly has the Henderson family done? With the Empress Dowager and the King's thoughts, they wouldn't have allowed Isabelle, or rather, Raisa, to enter the palace at this time alongside Diana."
Unlike Emmitt and Hubert, Fletcher was a powerful Secretary in the court.
His influence was second only to Gabriel and Dale.
So even if the Empress Dowager and the King wanted to select a new consort, they wouldn't allow a woman with such a powerful family backing to enter the palace before the Queen's position was solidified.
Eliza didn't understand, and Nolan shook his head as well.
"I only learned about this just before we set off, so the details are still unclear."
Nolan tried to comfort her, saying, "But there's no need for you to worry too much."
He smiled at her, seemingly thinking of something, and added, "I think the King actually cares about Diana quite a bit."
"Hmm?"
Eliza raised an eyebrow, surprised. "What makes you say that?"
Nolan raised an eyebrow and said, "You might not know, but the King was behind Diana breaking off her engagement with Matthew, and he was the one who first proposed her as Queen."
In other words, the young Emperor had chosen Diana to be his future Queen while she was still engaged to Matthew, without hesitation.
Eliza couldn't help but twitch the corner of her mouth.
The King's actions were no different from a bandit trying to steal a bride.
Now that Eliza understood the King's true motives regarding Diana, she felt some relief.
Even if Isabelle entered the palace, and the Henderson family tried to play their tricks, Diana wouldn't be without support.
Unfortunately, Eliza had already killed the county magistrate from Fort County.
Otherwise, she could have kept him alive, brought him back, and interrogated him. If she could find evidence that the Henderson family had instructed him to chase down Hubert and Emmitt, it could turn the tables for the Baker family in Hasen City.
But it was fine.
They would soon be back in Hasen City, and once there, with her, Emmitt, and Hubert by her side, the Henderson family would have to think twice before trying to target Diana.
But as it turned out, Eliza had celebrated too soon.
The next bad news hit her like a ton of bricks, dragging her mood straight into the depths.
Eliza asked, "What's this royal decree about? Why did the King suddenly issue it to me?"
She momentarily set aside her concerns about Diana and turned her focus to the decree Nolan was holding.
The bright yellow color of the decree in Nolan's hand caught her eye, making it impossible for her to ignore.
Nolan didn't read the decree to Eliza but handed it to her directly, allowing her to read it herself.
"It wasn't supposed to be this early, but with the situation in Hasen City changing suddenly, Diana pleaded with the King to issue this decree for you, and I was instructed to bring it to you."
Nolan looked at Eliza, his voice resigned, "Before we head to Hasen City, you'll need to come with me to Woteria."
After reading the contents of the decree, Eliza took a deep breath and asked, "So, who is it that's trying to impeach me?"
"The Henderson family, the Duke's estate, and their respective officials, all in all, probably around twenty people."
On the military side, with Nolan in charge, there wasn't a single person trying to impeach Eliza.
But the number of civil officials was troubling enough to make the King very concerned.
"A bunch of fools who just do as they're told. Don't worry about it. Once you return from Woteria with the official disaster relief order, those people won't have anything to say."
Eliza listened to Nolan but felt unsatisfied.
The Henderson family, the Stonor family...
A cold sneer curled on Eliza's lips.
Making them lose their voices wouldn't be enough.
She had to make sure these people were silenced for good.
With that thought, Eliza said, "I'll go to Woteria with you, but Hubert's people need to send them back to Hasen City first."
Emmitt, too, needs to be sent ahead by Tina.
Hubert was easy to arrange; Nolan had brought enough people, and three small teams were assigned to escort them.
While Nolan was gathering people, Eliza called Tina over and, in a hidden forest where no one could see, entrusted the unconscious Emmitt to her.
"I gave Emmitt a pill that will keep him alive for three days. Tina, make sure to get him to Saint Grace Nunnery and hand him over to Mary within that time."
Seeing Tina hesitate, Eliza immediately reassured her, "Don't worry, with Prince Regent and the Black Flag Army escorting us, I won't be in any danger, and I will protect myself. You can trust me."
Though Tina didn't want to leave Eliza, she could see how much Eliza cared for Emmitt. So, she nodded in agreement.
With a serious expression, Tina said, "I'll come back as soon as I can. Wait for me."
Eliza smiled and nodded. "Okay, I'll wait for you."
Tina quickly left with Emmitt.
When Eliza returned, Nolan glanced around, seemingly sensing something but said nothing.
During the journey to Woteria, he stayed close to Eliza at all times, never leaving her side.
Meanwhile, in Hasen City, Diana was dealing with the first trouble that arose after the news of her upcoming coronation spread.
"So, you broke off our engagement just because you wanted to become the Queen?" Matthew asked, his face twisted in anger as he glared at Diana.
