"Your Highness, Your Grace." Vance Malone strode into the hall, his posture brimming with arrogance. Yet, it seemed the commotion outside had forced him to swallow his pride and offer a proper bow.
As he bent forward, his gaze lingered on Eliza, carrying a hint of insolence that made her feel uneasy.
The moment Eliza's brows furrowed slightly, Nolan, standing beside her, caught it immediately.
Nolan's gaze swept over Vance, sharp and icy.
In that instant, Vance felt a chill creep down his neck, as though he'd been marked by a predator.
But he quickly dismissed the feeling. After all, this was the Malone family's territory.
Who would dare lay a finger on him there?
"Your Highness, Your Grace, please excuse him. This is my eldest grandson, the firstborn of my son, Jefferson."
"It's alright. He's still just a child." Nolan's casual remark about him being "just a child" made Vance's face twitch slightly.
'Is the Prince Regent mocking me?' Vance thought.
He was clearly of age, and anyone could see that. For Nolan to call him a child, it was either an insult or blatant condescension!
Vance let out a cold sneer in his heart.
Meanwhile, Eliza sipped her coffee leisurely, the brew already checked by Vexara, her thoughts wandering.
'Vance is Jefferson's eldest son?
'That would make him Louisa's older brother.
'No wonder he feels so unsettling. Those bloodthirsty eyes suggest he's no stranger to killing. He might even be as unhinged as Louisa.'
Eliza mused silently.
But she was still underestimating him. If Louisa were there, she would even have to step aside for Vance.
After all, he was the most ruthless member of the Malone family, even more brutal than Louisa.
Vance suggested, "Grandmother, my cousins and I are having a sparring match at the training grounds tonight. If His Highness and Her Grace don't mind, why not move the banquet there? Dinner and a show, wouldn't that be delightful?"
"Nonsense! You kids always end up drawing blood in those matches. How could we let His Highness and Her Grace witness such chaos? It would surely ruin their appetite and offend their sensibilities." Sariyah feigned a scolding tone as she addressed Vance.
Then, with an apologetic smile, she turned to Nolan and Eliza. "Your Highness, Your Grace, please forgive Vance. The boy is just being impulsive..."
But as she spoke, her gaze met Nolan's, who was watching her with a faint, knowing smile. It was as if he had seen through her pretense.
"If the young are reckless, does that mean the elders are equally thoughtless?" Nolan's icy tone and the oppressive aura he exuded instantly froze Sariyah's smile in place, leaving her visibly shaken.
A tense silence filled the hall, the atmosphere thick with unspoken tension.
Eliza gently set down her coffee cup, her voice calm but firm as she broke the increasingly tense atmosphere. "Your Highness, this feast is far too extravagant for someone like me. It doesn't suit my taste. I'll pass."
Pass? That wouldn't do. This meal was carefully prepared.
All that effort, and not a single bite taken.
Just as Sariyah was about to speak, Nolan let out a cold snort, his tone sharp and cutting. "A table full of meat dishes? No wonder the Holy Lady has no appetite. Is this your way of showing disrespect to her?"
It was only then that Sariyah realized Eliza was a vegan. She quickly forced a smile and said, "Ah, it was my oversight. I'll have someone prepare a proper vegetarian meal for Your Grace right away..."
"No need." Eliza interrupted her, her tone steady but pointed. "It's just a meal, a minor oversight—nothing worth fussing over. But Lady Sariyah, surely you know the saying, 'You can be careless with food, but not with your words.' Next time, it's better to discipline your family in private. Saying the wrong thing in front of us might bring trouble to your house."
Sariyah's brows furrowed slightly.
