Sariyah had expected Nolan to keep pushing, but to her surprise, he suddenly shifted the focus to the sparring match.
Sariyah felt a chill of unease creep over her.
Just as she furrowed her brows and was about to speak, Nolan's icy voice cut through the air. "What's the matter? Not interested in the chance I'm offering? Or would you rather see blood spilled here and now?"
"Let me remind you," he added sharply, "if I act here, in this cramped hall, it won't just be a matter of losing a finger."
The hall was far from empty.
There were over a dozen servants bustling about, not to mention Sariyah and Vance, the two most pivotal figures of the Malone family. Sariyah didn't dare to take the risk.
She quickly plastered on a smile and said, "Of course not, Your Highness. Since you wish it, I'll make arrangements immediately. Vance, go and prepare the seats at the training grounds without delay.
"And as for Her Grace..."
"I'll go wherever His Highness goes," Eliza said casually.
Her offhand remark brought a faint smile to Nolan's lips, his sharp gaze softening slightly. Sariyah, catching the subtle change in his expression, quickly added, "Then make sure Her Grace's vegetarian meal is properly prepared this time. There must be no mistakes."
"Yes, Grandmother," Vance replied, swallowing his frustration as he bowed and left.
It didn't take long for Eliza and Nolan to arrive at the Malone family's arena.
The arena wasn't particularly large, but it wasn't cramped either. It was just the right size to accommodate the twenty or so young men and women gathered there. They were chatting idly, but their eyes kept darting around, clearly waiting for something, or someone.
As soon as Eliza and Nolan appeared, the younger members of the Malone family turned to look. Their gazes brimmed with arrogance, a mix of wariness, provocation, and a hint of excitement, as if they were eager to see some drama unfold.
Around the edges of the arena, other members of the Malone family stood watch. Though they weren't directly involved, their presence was deliberate. They were there to monitor the situation closely, ready for anything.
Most of their attention was fixed on Nolan and the Black Flag soldiers accompanying him. If a fight broke out, their priority was clear. They would take down the Prince Regent and his men first.
As for the Holy Lady, who looked so frail that she couldn't even lift a sword, they didn't see her as a threat. Whether they captured her or not hardly mattered. Once Nolan and his soldiers were dealt with, what could a defenseless woman possibly do?
Eliza walked beside Nolan with a calm and composed demeanor. After taking her seat, her gaze fell on the table of plain vegetarian dishes. Vexara gave a faint flutter, as if echoing her unspoken disdain.
Vexara suggested the food was not poisoned.
But unfortunately, Eliza truly had no appetite.
Just then, a few maids stepped forward.
Two of them waited on Nolan, while the other two served Eliza.
"Your Grace, do these vegetarian dishes suit your taste? If not, perhaps you'd like some coffee while we prepare more options."
One of the maids brought out a pot of coffee, poured a cup for Eliza, and placed it in front of her. With a peculiar smile, she added, "This is premium black coffee, known for its rich aroma and smooth taste. Lord Vance personally made it for you, hoping Your Grace will appreciate his thoughtful gesture."
At the mention of the last sentence, Eliza, who had been indifferent until then, paused slightly as her fingers brushed the cup. The next moment, "Ah!"
The scalding coffee splashed onto the maid, causing her to cry out and stumble backward, falling to the ground.
"Your Grace, what happened all of a sudden?"
