“This is none of my business,” Lylah raised her hands in surrender. “And I'm sorry for intruding.”
“Oh,” the female muttered, her gaze flicking toward Falcon, who gave her a signal to leave. She obliged, bowed with a flushed face, and bolted out.
“Why chase her away? I can wait outside while you fuck each other—”
“That's not funny, Lylah, and I'm not trying to do that. She’s been chasing me ever since I got here. She knows the urge of the full moon and came here half-naked, but I'm not interested.”
“Liar,” Lylah rolled her eyes.
“Maybe I did sleep with her a while ago. I needed to cool my wolf down, and she offered willingly. But now… I just can't. I don’t want her to think I'm taking advantage of her.”
“Nyra?”
Falcon’s gaze snapped up, shoulders tensed. “What?”
“You like my sister's personal maid?”
He looked away. Hesitating with his next word. "Seen her?"
Lylah shook her head. "She never came back."
Falcon inhaled sharply. “Why are you here on the full moon?”
“I came to see Lucas.”
“On the full moon?”
“What does that have to do with this? Is he alive or not? I want to see him. I'm not letting you avoid my question tonight.”
Falcon sighed. “Can we do this once the sun comes up?”
“No.”
“Lylah.”
“No.”
“He is not himself on nights like this. He is lost, drowning, and dangerous,” he snapped. “I can't let you see him. You could have come any day, but tonight? No.”
Lylah's brows creased harder.
“The girl who just left will find you a vacant room to sleep in until mor—”
His words caught in his throat when Lylah’s expression changed. She took a step closer, menace dancing in her brown eyes.
Falcon didn't step back, but he swallowed as Lylah stood right before him, her face inches from his.
“I didn't travel miles just to hear you say this,” her low, dangerous voice made him swallow again.
“Fine. I will take you to him, but you've got to promise you will do exactly what I say.”
Silence.
“Lylah. I'm not kidding.”
“I promise,” she said too fast.
The wind felt cold against her skin, making her slowly regret not using a suppressant. The last full moon here had been tough. Nyx had almost lost control that night.
She had sneaked into the wild forest and hunted, but it wasn't enough, and she ended up hurting herself to pass out until the full moon was over.
This full moon was beginning to make her body twitch. Seven years of repressing that urge wasn't a good thing.
As a twenty-four-year-old female, being a virgin was one of the rarest fucking things.
A scent slammed into her nostrils, one that made her head twitch with alertness.
“Do you smell that?”
Falcon glanced over his shoulder. “What?”
“The scent.”
It was getting stronger with each step. Sharp. Too sharp; she felt her nostrils might burn from it. Yet, it drew her closer, whispering for her to come and get more of it.
It was wild. Intoxicating. It made her heart race.
“You alright?” Falcon paused.
Only then did Lylah realize she was breathing too hard. Every nerve in her was restless, and Nyx was about to surface.
Was this because of the full moon?
“I'm good,” she shut her eyes, managing to steady her breathing.
“You sure?”
No! I’m not fine. The more I walk, the more my body burns.
“I’m fine. Why are you taking me into the woods anyway?” she asked, wanting to divert the question.
“When was the last time you satisfied yourself under the full moon?”
Shit. The question she had been avoiding.
“More like never,” Lylah muttered.
“What?!”
“Come on, Falcon. Can we just focus on why we are here?”
Falcon stayed silent for a while, and she was glad he decided not to push it, but concern etched every line of his face.
“Lord Lucas was stubborn, just like you. He once used urge suppressants for many years until they stopped working. That was when he started hurting the females he mounted.”
As memories of Lord Lucas flooded in, the deep scar in Lylah’s heart slowly began to lose the stitches that once held it close.
The scent still lingered, but she tried to endure.
“Wanna tell me all that happened since Mearina died?”
“I thought I lost him,” Falcon began. “With Lady Mearina gone and the poison draining him, I waited for his last breath. The ouroboros found a way to feed him nutrients and water. Even after I told them it was necessary, they wouldn't stop taking care of him, especially that male called Zav. He promised to find a cure.”
A painful smile graced her lips. Too bad Zav died; he was a good man.
“Years after years he was still asleep, barely losing weight due to the nice people in town taking care of him. He wasn't dying, perhaps because he had been rejected. I tried to hope he'd open his eyes over the years, but to no avail until the previous full moon…”
Falcon recalled meeting Lucas standing in the middle of the room, back facing him. His master was lost, raging, and shifted the moment his presence was sensed.
“He was lost. He'd gone feral,” he paused at the large tree, and Lylah stopped as well, quiet.
The ouroboros are good with underground caves because that's another home for their dragon. One of the main reasons why the moon realm found it hard to spot them.
Falcon approached the large tree lever and pulled it over. Its root mouth creaked open, revealing a cave.
Just like the one Selene used to have back in the day.
“He's down there,” Falcon sighed. “Locked in a barricade.”
A low growl of a beast could be heard. Faint, yet terrifying.
Falcon had sustained injuries from restricting Lucas’ beast in the barricades during the last full moon. It would have been more dire if Lucas had been in his full strength.
Not wanting the same thing to happen, he had kept Lucas locked up for the safety of the town.
He didn't want his master killing the same people who had helped him.
Lylah was silent, breath ragged.
When Falcon saw her eyes, he panicked. Her eyes were glowing blue, fangs bared at the end of her lips.
“Lylah?”
Falcon's voice was distant to Lylah, not when another was ringing like a bell in her ear.
The moon goddess had finally done something right for the first fuckin' time
Because what was ringing in her head was something she had been waiting for a long time.
*Mate*
*Mate!*
*Mate!!*
Nyx sneered in a beastly way. Hungry.
*Guess we ain't gonna die a virgin after all.*
