Dark red-golden eyes pierced the darkness like twin orbs of fire.
Its presence soffocating.
Its form like a terrifying demon, who just emerged from hell.
Rickon hadn't been this terrified in his entire life. He saw his life flashed before him.
The beast's claws grabbed his shoulder, lifted him effortlessly and tore him in half, blood splashing over the grass and wetting the soil.
The other two trembling hastily guards shifted, spinning on their heels to flee. They barely took a step before their screams ripped through the forest-blood splattering as hideous claws slashed through them, tearing them apart in seconds.
A growl rumbled from Duncan's chest as he turned his glowing deadly gaze to the last man standing: Atlas.
Atlas' back was pressed against the wall, shaking violently, his pants soaked with his own urine.
His gaze was fixed on the hideous monster lurking in the dark, staring straight at him.
Those pair of reddish-gold eyes bore deep into his soul-a clear sign he was standing at the gates of hell.
Bones cracked and echoed through the air as Duncan shifted down into his half-form, still utterly terrifying as he stepped into the moonlight, approaching Atlas.
Atlas trembled like a leaf in a storm, silently praying for the ground to swallow him whole and hide him from the intensity.
Duncan halted beside the woman lying on the floor, her head barely moving. She was drenched in sweat, fear clinging to her like a second skin, her chest heaving as she drew in deep breaths.
His red-golden iris dilated.
"Dragon. Fire. Ouroboros. Silver hair. Silver eyes. Ari."
Panic rose in her chest. What was he saying? This was just like the night they first met. She could feel it.
The intensity and raw hunger in those eyes.
He was in his rut.
He crouched and grabbed her neck, lifting her from the floor. Not hard enough to hurt her, but firm enough to trap her.
He pulled her close, sniffing the scents clinging to her-he wanted hers but the other scents that only drove him madder.
Atlas, seeing the King distracted, seized the chance to run. But luck wasn't on his side. Duncan's other hand shot out, clamping his whole face, dragging him off the floor and lifting him into the air.
Atlas wet his pants again, clawing at the muscular hand that held him like a ragdoll. The King's furious gaze shifted to him.
"You. Touched. Her." Each of Duncan's words carried a dread that sent ice-cold chills down Atlas's spine.
Atlas's eyes widened in terror as Duncan's grip tightened, crushing his cheekbone.
"I. Smell. You." Duncan's golden eyes blazed with fury and possession.
Atlas's scream was muffled by the King's merciless hand.
"Dragon. Fire. Ouroboros. Silver hair. Silver eyes." Duncan's golden gaze locked onto Arianna.
And with one final word, he crushed Atlas's skull in his bare hand. "Ari."
Arianna felt paralyzed by the brutality-her body refusing to move, shackled by the drugs coursing through her.
He pinned her to the tree, glaring as he growled again, "Ari."
"Your Grace," Arianna whimpered. Oh, the way he said her name-so full of fury.
Was he going to kill her too?
Please, no. Not like this.
She struggled to move, but her body failed her. His grip on her neck tightened, making it harder to breathe.
"Duncan." For the first time, she spoke his name aloud. It left her lips sweetly, almost intimately.
"Duncan, it's me." Tears streamed down her face. "Please stop."
For a moment, his grip loosened... then tightened again.
"Bloody Ouroboros," he snarled, claws piercing her skin, drawing out blood. "I'll kill you all!"
Arianna let out a cry and shut her eyes, tears falling freely. Was this really the end?
Oh, Moon Goddess... no.
Oh, Dragon Goddess... save me.
A growl rumbled through her chest. Suddenly, the bruises and drug's effects began to vanish as strange energy surged through her.
Her eyes snapped open, glowing silver for a fleeting moment. They met the gaze of the raging male before her.
Her hand moved-one to the clawed hand on her neck, the other to his own face. Words rumbled from her lips.
"Mine."
Duncan's predatory pupil dilated, his body tensed and his grip loosened. Recognition flickered in his golden eyes.
Then roared and punched the tree behind her, claws burying into the wood.
She didn't flinch.
"Run, Ari. Run as fast as you can," he growled, fangs bared as he fought to suppress his bloodlust.
When she didn't move, he roared in her face. "Run!!!"
But she still didn't move. She wasn't fucking moving!
Duncan's sight was getting blurry again, his hands itching, aching to tear something.
Anything.
Anyone.
His senses were clouding. This was bad.
Finally, her feet moved-not away from him but closer to him.
Her hand reached to cup his face, not minding his terrifying form...
And in the next moment, her lips crashed against his.
