No surprise—after a scandal like that, I got suspended from work.
But let's be real. We all knew it was just a formality. Soon enough, I'd be out on my ass.
I had nothing left.
Then, the moment I stepped through my front door, it hit me like a freight train—something I'd never even considered.
How the hell did Adrian get that video of me and the masseur?
If Sophia was in on it with the masseur, did that mean she and Adrian were working together?
The thought clawed at me. I couldn't shake it.
I wasn't about to play detective alone. I called the cops.
Adrian sharing those photos? Straight-up illegal.
They hauled him in for questioning, and sure enough, he cracked. The video came from Sophia.
Those two snakes. How long had that been going on?
If I still didn't realize this whole mess was their setup, I'd have to be the world's biggest idiot.
At the station, I lost it. I grabbed Adrian by the collar, my voice shaking with fury.
"So you two were the ones cheating! This was all a scheme to force me to sign those divorce papers with nothing, wasn't it?!"
Silence.
No more of his usual rage. Just… nothing.
His refusal to answer left me seething, but I wasn't done.
I amended my statement—this wasn't just revenge. It was extortion.
That divorce agreement Adrian strong-armed me into? The house, the car, the savings—gone. Millions of dollars. More than enough for charges.
The cops tracked down Sophia, who'd been MIA for weeks.
She didn't even wait for questioning. She confessed.
The whole thing? Her doing.
The masseurs? Hired and paid by her.
All to make sure I walked away from my marriage with nothing.
I stared at the woman I'd called my best friend for over a decade, my stomach twisting.
"What did I ever do to you? Why go this far?"
"If you and Adrian were screwing around, you could've just told me. I would've left. Why ruin me?"
Handcuffed, Sophia let out a bitter laugh.
"You think I wanted that pathetic man? Please."
"Then why?" My voice cracked. "Why put me through hell?"
Her eyes burned with pure hatred.
"Because from the beginning, my goal was to destroy you."
"Sophia Laurent… do you remember Lily Wang?"
Lily Wang?
I racked my brain. Nothing.
Her lip curled in disgust.
"Of course you don't. You heartless bitch. You deserved every second of this."
I was lost. "What are you talking about? Who's Lily Wang?"
The officer beside us cleared his throat.
"Lily Wang was her birth name. She legally changed it to Sophia Laurent years ago."
My breath caught. "Your name was Lily? But when we met, you were already Sophia!"
She threw her head back, laughing—a raw, broken sound—until tears streaked her face.
"Typical. Bullies never remember their victims."
The word bully hit me like a punch to the gut.
Oh God. No.
Her smirk was vicious.
"You're starting to remember now, aren't you? That girl you tormented in middle school? The one who dropped out and tried to kill herself because of you?"
My voice was barely a whisper.
"It was you."
