Her eyes filled with unshed tears. No one had ever taken the time to earn her fealty. Megan was always the one to dive in headfirst into the deep end. But maybe a little patience was in order. Cole felt big. He felt motherfucking huge to her. And she didn’t want him to go away either.
“I think, children, I will take my leave. But know this, Cole Mingan. If you hurt her, there will be repercussions. The fates do not take kindly to those who question them, understand?”
“I understand. And I am not questioning them. I want Megan, and I will go at her pace. You hold all the cards, lily. Okay?”
“Alright. Um, if you could just give me tonight. I’ll be ready to talk to you tomorrow.”
“If that’s what you want, I’ll go. But I’m just a call away if you need me, okay?”
“Yeah. Okay. Thank you for coming, Uncle Uzzi.”
“My pleasure, dear. Can’t have my clients beating each other with furniture now, can we?”
She snorted a laugh and nodded. It was all she could do. Closing the door after them was so damn hard, but Megan needed a break. Cole’s Dire Wolf was throwing down some serious vibes, and the air was just so heavy when he was in the apartment, she could hardly think. Her she-Tiger felt anxious. She didn’t want to push him out of her space, but her human side needed a moment to catch up.
He went from wanting to chew off his foot before taking a mate to wanting to try with her in the span of a few hours. It was too much too soon. What if she disappointed him? What if he risked all that only to find his feelings faded once the sexual excitement wore off?
Who said it will wear off?
Doesn’t it always?
Megan paced as she argued with herself. She almost missed the buzz of her phone. Glancing at the screen, she saw a text from her brother. It began the same as all the others, with a goofy emoji and him asking her how she was. But Megan didn’t have the emotional bandwidth to deal with Matthew’s bullshit. She silenced the conversation, and was surprised to see a dozen missed messages from Lucy.
Hi. This is Lucy. You know, your favorite bartender/new best friend?
Look girl, I know that big Wolf done fucked up, but tonight is girls’ night out and I wanted to invite you to come hang with the rest of the Pack.
Hello? Earth to Megan.
We will be there to get you at 7pm. Wear something comfy. It’s spa night! -Lucy Your New BFF
Megan glanced at the time. It was half-past six. Shit. She needed a shower if she was going to go out with a bunch of females with supernaturally enhanced senses. She replied quickly, telling Lucy she’d be ready, then ran to the bathroom. Her she-Tiger lamented losing some of the strength of Cole’s scent, but such was life.
I need to know if he’s really in this or not. So tonight, kitty cat, it’s me and some girls I want to be friends with. Got it?
Her Tiger chuffed in agreement, and Megan grinned. She put on some leggings and a button-down flannel and stuffed her feet into her furry lined boots when she heard a ruckus outside. She ran down the stairs, giggling, when she saw the enormous SUV filled to the brim with a gaggle of females.
“That’s her!” Lucy screeched and ran in for a hug.
The woman was so tiny, but she was like a blonde ball of fury. She tugged Megan’s hand and practically shoved her into the truck as she made the introductions.
“You won’t remember everyone yet, but the redhead is Sheila, she’s my mate’s cousin. This is Tracey, Gwendolyn, Nica, and I think you know Ariella,” Lucy said.
“Yes! Your sister Toni is mated to Pierce McDowd, he’s a member of the Maverick Pride. You were at their mating ceremony.”
“Nice to see you again, Megan,” Ariella grinned, rubbing her hands on her protruding belly.
“Congrats on your young,” Megan whispered, smiling at the glowing female.
“Awww, I know that look,” Sheila, the redhead driving the SUV, said. “You wanna have babies. Omg! Your name is Megan, right? When you marry Cole, you’ll be Megan Mingan! HA!”
“Ohmygawd, she’s right,” Lucy chuckled.
“Who said I am marrying Cole?” Megan replied, trying to keep her own chortle inside.
“That’s right. She doesn’t have to marry him to keep getting that diiccckkk,” Ariella said.
Well, actually, she sang the last word, off key and loudly. The sound practically broke Megan’s eardrums. But that didn’t stop her from snorting a laugh.
“That’s actually true! Ha! I like it,” Tracey said, winking at Megan.
Oh, they were a saucy bunch of females, telling bawdy jokes mostly at each other's expense. But they had a good vibe, and a strong Pack bond, and for the first time, Megan felt good. Like she might actually fit in with a group of women.
“You fit in just fine, Megan Sudak,” Lucy said as they arrived at a Heavenly Bodies Spa.
“Welcome to the Pack!”
