The plane landed the next morning. As soon as I stepped out of the airport, I saw my parents waiting for me in the distance.
After years apart, they seemed to have aged a lot, but the love in their eyes when they looked at me was still as strong as ever—if anything, even more intense than before.
"Winnie, you’re finally home. Your dad and I missed you so much." Mom opened her arms and pulled me into an embrace, her tears soaking through my clothes.
I hugged her back tightly, wanting to transfer all the years of longing I had for her into that one moment.
Dad stood by silently, but I could see the love and concern in his gaze, his eyes soft and tender.
"Did Shawn Brown hurt you? Why did you suddenly want a divorce?" After a long silence, Mom finally asked.
I shook my head and nodded at the same time, unsure how to explain all the grievances I had endured these past years.
Seeing the change in my mood, Mom and Dad quickly realized that it wasn’t a good time to press me further on the topic.
"Never mind, let’s not talk about others. Let’s go home, to your home."
Yes, home was only where my parents were. That’s where I truly belonged.
As soon as we arrived home, I smelled a rich, comforting fragrance. Mom had sent someone to prepare breakfast for me, and it was all my favorite dishes.
I hadn’t eaten since yesterday afternoon, and my stomach was growling. I sat down and immediately started eating, savoring every bite.
Dad, seeing how hungry I was, hurriedly poured me some water. "Eat slowly, no one’s going to take it from you."
Mom looked at me with a heart full of concern, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Suddenly, I felt a pang of regret. In order to be with Shawn Brown, I had hidden it from my parents and built a life with him, moving to another city to keep them from interfering.
Years passed without seeing them much, and I had missed so many moments I should have shared with them.
Mom seemed to sense my thoughts. She reached up and gently ruffled my hair, her voice soft and warm.
"Just having you home is enough. From now on, stay by your parents’ side, okay?"
That evening, after breakfast, my parents planned to take me out to have some fun. But I was more focused on discussing work matters, so I politely declined and spent the time talking with Dad about business.
As we spoke, I turned on my phone. The moment I opened it, I saw over a hundred missed calls—all from Shawn Brown.
Along with them were his messages.
"What’s with the divorce agreement you had your lawyer send me? You want to divorce me? Just because I asked you to go buy food for Lindsay White?"
"Why aren’t you picking up? Answer your phone right now! If you don’t, you can forget about hearing from me again."
"I’ve had enough of this. I’m calling you one last time. If you don’t answer, I’m signing the papers."
Before I could process those messages, Shawn’s call came in.
I glanced at my parents, then walked over to the balcony before picking up.
"Winnie, have you grown wings or something? You’re really threatening me with divorce now?"
As soon as the call connected, Shawn’s furious voice blasted through the speaker.
I responded coolly, "I’m serious. I want a divorce."
"Stop messing around! How are you going to live without me? You’re just jealous that Lindsay White gets all the love from me and Gerhard, and you’re trying to use divorce as leverage. Grow up, Winnie."
Shawn’s words dripped with sarcasm, his arrogance assuming I couldn’t live without him.
I pursed my lips and calmly replied, "Think whatever you want. Just make sure you sign the papers."
Before I could hang up, Shawn’s voice grew more frantic.
"You really think I won’t sign? My patience is wearing thin. I’m giving you ten minutes to come here right now. And don’t forget, Lindsay wants food—I'll send you a list. If you do a good job, I might consider overlooking the divorce agreement."
I didn’t want to waste any more time talking to him. I ended the call abruptly and immediately blocked his number.
