I snatched my jacket to cover up and bolted from the fitness center like a spooked rabbit, my heart hammering against my ribs like it wanted to escape.
By the time I stumbled through my front door, I collapsed onto the couch, completely spent.
Two days until my husband returned. Vincent was married—to my best friend's wife, no less. Would that woman start talking? I needed to shut this down before it spiraled out of control.
As midnight crept in, I tossed in bed, sleep impossible. Then I heard it—Daniel and Nathan's familiar laughter floating through my open window. Against my better judgment, I crept to look.
There they were on the bench below—Daniel nursing a beer while Nathan blew smoke rings into the night air. No sign of Vincent.
"Still playing voyeur?" The voice behind me made me jump out of my skin.
I spun around to find Vincent in my bedroom—God knows how long he'd been standing there. The moonlight caught the ridges of muscle in his arms beneath that black tank top.
"H-how did you—" My back hit the window.
"That spare key you gave me when I fixed your sink?" He stepped closer, the space between us charged. "My wife's at her parents' tonight."
I was trapped between the cool glass and his radiating heat as he caged me in with his arms.
"You never told me you were married," I whispered, my voice shaking.
"Does it matter?" His breath warmed my lips as he leaned in. "You are too."
The truth burned between us. We both had vows, families, everything to lose—yet here we were. And God help me, the wrongness only made it hotter.
His mouth crashed into mine with new desperation, hands mapping my body like he wanted to memorize every curve. I should've pushed him away. Instead, I melted into him.
"Vincent!" Daniel's shout shattered the moment. "Your wife's on the phone!"
Vincent pulled back just enough to smirk. "No hurry." His lips grazed my ear, sending shivers down my spine. "Your husband's not back until Thursday... but this neighborhood's full of interesting places. We'll find our moments."
The promise in his voice curled low in my stomach as he disappeared into the shadows.
