Jasper's sharp accusation sliced through the tension, but my focus locked onto Isabella—her hands shaking as she clutched her phone.
Alaric and Cathy's frantic voices blared from the speaker: "Hurry up and kill her!"
A suffocating silence followed.
Isabella's eyes widened in panic as the gravity of their words sank in. In a blind rage, she lunged at me.
She never stood a chance.
The bodyguards moved instantly, pinning her down effortlessly.
It was almost laughable—her desperation, her complete lack of strategy.
Did she really think I was just some woman Jasper had taken an interest in?
No.
To Jasper, I was an investment.
His personal organ bank.
There was no way he'd let anything happen to me before he got what he wanted.
Isabella, realizing she had no leverage, crumpled to her knees, sobbing. "Jasper—no, Mr. Sterling—the one who saved you wasn't Cathy! It was my eldest daughter, Cassandra!"
"Yes, Mr. Sterling, it's all a misunderstanding!" Cathy's voice cracked as she scrambled to rewrite history. "Cassandra forced me to take her place! She said you didn't seem trustworthy—I swear it was her idea!"
The three of them descended into desperate pleas, tripping over their own lies, throwing each other under the bus in a pathetic attempt to save themselves.
Then Cathy's voice broke into a whimper: "Cassie, please switch back. I'm begging you!"
Jasper, who had been watching me with an unreadable expression, shook his head.
"No need to switch back," he said simply. "I prefer smart women."
He stepped closer, his presence swallowing the space between us, his voice dropping into something darker.
"Right now, the world thinks I'm marrying Catherine. But you and I both know she's not fit to be my wife." His gaze never left mine. "You, however, could take her place. Not as my wife, of course—but as my lover."
He let the words hang in the air before continuing, slow and deliberate.
"Meanwhile, Catherine will still be Eloise's organ donor. How does that sound?"
I didn't flinch. Didn't react.
Jasper took it as interest, his voice turning smooth, almost coaxing. "Think about it. As my lover, you'll have my resources. You'll live in luxury. And I can see it—you hate your parents, your sister. As their blood relative, you're stuck. There's not much you can do."
He leaned in slightly, his breath steady, his words laced with dark amusement.
"But I'm different. I can give you anything. Wealth. Power. Glory. Or…" He paused, letting the weight of his next words sink in. "If what you really want is revenge, I can make their lives a living hell."
Isabella's breath hitched. Her face drained of color.
Her grip on the phone loosened as she whispered, barely audible, "Mr. Sterling… there's another way."
She shot to her feet, desperation etched into every line of her face.
"I'm Cassie's mother. I know she's always been healthy. Let her be the donor for your sister. Let Cathy marry you instead. That way, everyone wins. And we'll keep it a secret—forever."
Jasper's expression twisted in disgust.
With one swift motion, he kicked her away, sending her sprawling onto the floor.
"How could someone that stupid ever marry me?" He scoffed, his gaze flicking back to me. "I want someone smart—someone like Cassandra."
I met his eyes, unshaken.
"Stop pretending, Jasper," I said coolly. "What you really want are options."
His smirk didn't falter, but there was a flicker of intrigue in his gaze.
"You already have Cathy for your sister's transplant, but having another compatible donor isn't exactly a bad thing, is it?" I tilted my head. "You're not short on money, so why not hedge your bets?"
He raised an eyebrow, clearly pleased. "You're not wrong. You're definitely sharp."
His smile widened slightly, but his voice turned icy. "But as you already know, being smart won't save you."
Jasper stepped back, nodding to his men. "I'm taking you with me now. Whether you become my lover or donate your organs to Eloise—that choice is yours."
I didn't panic.
I'd been waiting for this moment.
A soft, amused laugh escaped me as I held his gaze.
"Mr. Sterling, don't rush," I said smoothly. "Let's talk privately. If, after hearing what I have to say, you still want to take me, I'll go willingly."
For the first time, Jasper hesitated.
Then, with a slow nod, he signaled to his bodyguards.
They dragged Isabella out, her muffled protests fading into the distance, leaving only Jasper and me behind.
He loomed over me, his presence suffocating.
"Go ahead," he murmured, his tone shifting ever so slightly. "I'm curious to see how you plan to convince me."
