"Hailey, congratulations! You're officially a lawyer now!"
Oscar's excitement outshone even Hailey's own.
"Your family wanted you to take over the business. So why do you still show up at the law firm every day?"
It wasn't until later that I learned Oscar came from a powerhouse family. He was the definition of a low-key rich kid—or better yet, an elite second-gen.
The guy was exceptional at everything. Restaurants, hotels, bars—you name it, he'd invested in it during his downtime.
Academically? Just as impressive. Law was just one of the many fields he'd mastered.
Oscar had a deep understanding of running massive corporate empires.
The more I got to know him, the more I admired him. How did he manage to learn so much and still radiate energy?
Meanwhile, it had taken me eight grueling years to restart my legal studies. Two attempts at the bar exam before I finally earned my license.
For the past year, even while handling his family's business, Oscar had shown up at the firm daily just to watch me study.
"I come here because I want to see you every day!"
Oscar was refreshingly direct. His love was so intense, so undeniable, it was impossible to brush off.
"Oscar, I'm in my thirties—way older than you."
He just smiled. "My feelings for you have nothing to do with age."
I knew from experience that men his age often burned with passion. But time had a way of shifting perspectives.
Felix had been proof of that.
Once upon a time, he'd loved me just as fiercely as Oscar did now.
"Let's make a deal. If in three years you're still completely sure about me, I'll be your girlfriend."
Three years would give Oscar time to grow, to meet more women—to be certain.
He laughed. "You can't back out of this promise."
I nodded firmly. "I won't."
Then, out of nowhere, he pressed a tender kiss to my forehead before whispering in my ear, "The men in my family? We're all Romeos."
I frowned, confused.
Oscar's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Meaning—we stay loyal. For life."
