All she could do now was pray, 'Please, just let the bodyguard's car door up ahead open smoothly.'
Arielle yanked the car door handle with every ounce of strength she had.
'Thank God!' she thought.
The door finally swung open.
Without hesitation, Arielle and Lucas scrambled into the car and quickly locked the doors.
The pursuing car stayed hot on their tail.
Once inside the car, Lucas realized they'd taken the wrong seats. Arielle was behind the wheel.
'Shit, she's just a student, she can't even drive!' he thought, panic rising in his chest.
Just as Lucas was about to suggest switching seats, Arielle's voice cut in, "Hold on tight!"
Before he could react, she floored the accelerator and the car shot forward, tires screeching.
"Holy shit! You trying to get us killed?" Lucas gasped as the car shot forward at breakneck speed.
He thought, 'This is basically suicide!
'Way too fucking fast!'
The pursuing vehicles closed in on them.
Lucas glanced back and roared in fury. "Which son of a bitch is behind this? I'll make sure to kill him!"
A heart-stopping, life-or-death chase was unfolding at breakneck speed on the road.
Just then, one of the enemy cars roared toward them.
With unstoppable force, it slammed into their vehicle.
The deafening crash tore through the silent night.
The massive impact sent both of them lurching violently to one side, instantly throwing their bodies off balance.
Only their fastened seatbelts kept them from being hurled through the windshield by the brutal collision.
'They're trying to ram us off the road!' Lucas thought, his mind reeling with shock. 'Who the hell do these bastards think they are?'
Arielle stayed silent, her only focus was losing their tail.
With constant lane-swerving, the tires screeched against the asphalt.
Arielle checked the rearview mirror, a car from the enemy was closing in fast, barely 60 feet behind them.
The farther they drove, the more desolate the road became, not a soul in sight.
Arielle thought grimly, 'They picked this place on purpose, they must have known our route.
'Lucas giving me a ride tonight was pure coincidence. For them to set up an ambush so quickly... that traitor must have tipped them off long ago.
'No, this isn't working. At this rate, they'll corner us in a dead end.'
"Hold tight!" Arielle barked. As the pursuing car closed in, she suddenly jerked the steering wheel hard, executing a sharp 180-degree fishtailing spin before charging straight at the vehicle behind them.
Lucas was dumbfounded.
'She's crazy! This is suicide, we're both going down!' he thought.
The enemy driver clearly hadn't expected Arielle's daring move. As the two cars collided, he wrenched the steering wheel violently.
A deafening crash echoed through the night.
The force of the impact sent their car careening off course, skidding straight toward the edge of the cliff.
In mere seconds, car and driver plunged over the precipice into the abyss.
There was no chance of survival.
Arielle let out a sigh of relief, her hands trembling on the steering wheel.
Lucas was in no better shape, his limbs felt like jelly.
That last moment had been incredibly perilous. One wrong move and they would have gone over the cliff.
For a split second, he was sure this was the end. 'Guess I'm about to meet Grandfather in the afterlife,' he thought.
"Are you okay, Arielle?" Lucas glanced at her, his heart still pounding. "Damn, that was way too close."
"All good. Let me check the back," Arielle said, then swung open the car door and moved to the rear to assess the situation.
Looking at how calm she was, Lucas realized he was seeing Arielle in a whole new light. She was nothing like other girls.
Decisive, bold, fearless, even reckless. When she crashed that car just now, he wondered if she even stopped to think there was someone else in the vehicle.
He thought, 'Holy shit, she's got nerves of steel! That's not how women usually act!
'These people are obviously after me. If anything happened to her, her blood would be on my hands.'
Frustrated, Lucas ran his fingers through his disheveled hair.
Finally getting a signal, Lucas immediately pulled out his phone and dialed 911 to report the incident and call for help.
