Recalling all the suffering from her previous life, Arielle thought coldly, "There's no way I'm letting him die that easily."
Suppressing all her hatred, Arielle opened her eyes again, now, they were filled with nothing but icy indifference and coldness.
Gavin looked at her coldly and said, "You're Meredith's sister. Even though the Bradford family and the Boone family have arranged an engagement, I would never marry someone like you."
Gavin's tone dripped with hostility.
Thinking of how Meredith suffered under her torment every day, Gavin seethed, his anger burning even fiercer.
His rage surged within him.
He ached to marry Meredith immediately.
'Once she joins the Boone family, no one will ever dare to bully her again,' he vowed to himself.
"Even if you're Henry's real daughter and Meredith is just adopted, I couldn't care less about her status." Gavin noticed that Arielle still hadn't said a word.
'Maybe she's embarrassed because I broke off the engagement,' he thought.
But the next second, Arielle spoke, and her words made his blood boil.
"Seriously? A scumbag like you is a perfect match for a bitch like her." Her voice was ice-cold, devoid of any warmth.
Arielle curled her lips into a mocking sneer.
"Don't worry," she said coldly, "you and Meredith are bound together for life, and death!"
With that, Arielle turned on her heel and walked away, not sparing them a glance.
She thought, 'So Gavin and Meredith have been sneaking around all along.
'So what made Gavin suddenly change his mind and marry me?
'Of course, it was all for Grandma's shares!'
Arielle sneered inwardly, 'I was so blind that I didn't see through their scheme.'
Hearing her vicious words, Gavin's mind went completely blank for a moment.
He was certain this was his first time meeting Arielle.
He thought, 'Why would she look at me like that, and speak to me in such a way?
'Her gaze was like looking at her father's murderer.'
Her eyes held bloodlust, hatred, resentment, and murderous intent.
He had expected her to be heartbroken, distressed, or humiliated.
But there was none of that.
As he turned to watch her figure disappear around the corner of the stairs, a chill ran down his spine.
Her stare was utterly frigid.
Meredith spotted Gavin from across the way.
Putting on her sweetest act, she fluttered over to him and cooed in a sugary voice, "Gavin..."
Gavin looked at his sweet and gentle fiancée standing before him.
He composed himself, his heart softening instantly, all gloom vanishing from his mind.
In a gentle voice, he asked, "Meredith, did she bully you again?"
Hearing this, Meredith instantly lowered her head, putting on a frightened act.
He reached out and gently ruffled her hair.
"Don't be afraid," Gavin reassured her. "I've already given her a warning. I'll marry you as soon as possible."
Meredith suddenly looked up, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, her voice choked with emotion as she spoke in a "considerate" tone.
She said, "Gavin, you mustn't... I'm just the adopted daughter of the Bradford family. The one you should marry is my sister. She's the real Bradford family heiress. Please, don't jeopardize your relationship with Grandpa over our childhood bond."
He thought, 'Listen to that, such considerate words. Now this is the grace befitting a true Bradford family heiress. Compared to Arielle's frosty face and arrogant attitude, Meredith is clearly the best wife material in the world.'
"Don't worry, Meredith," Gavin said gently, "It's you I love, and it's you I'm engaged to. That won't change, no matter what your status is."
Gavin tenderly comforted the teary-eyed girl before him.
Hearing his words, a glimmer of hope lit up Meredith's despondent eyes, and a delighted smile curved her lips.
"Gavin, you're not lying to me?" Meredith asked softly.
"I mean it. I'd never lie to you," Gavin replied gently.
The onlookers all looked on with envy.
Perla, arm in arm with Anna, watched the two lovebirds, the air practically sparkling with romance.
"They're such a perfect couple," Perla gushed. "Gavin truly doesn't care about status at all, no matter who Meredith is, he'd never look down on her."
