                    Blair POV
“You’re living in the dark ages” I snorted, while Braedon frowned “Women are just as capable as men are. We are strong. We are warriors.”
“Were you not born with a heart defect?” David interrupted “You were lucky your father didn’t kill you. Most packs would have done away for that one weakness alone” he sounded smug.
“Blair honey, stop getting into an argument with him. It’s not worth it” Braedon interrupted us.
I stepped back but David’s eyes remained fixated on me. “You see, your mate gives you a demand and you listen,” David said, while I tensed “You obeyed your master, like a good mate. That is what a woman is meant to do.”
“Shut up” Braedon growled “I was not demanding she do anything.”
“You know where Brynn is, don’t you?” I asked and David’s eyes slid back to me, a small smile curving on his lips. “What makes you think that?” he asked me directly “Why would I know where your sister may have gone? What business is it of yours? Would you really try and kill your own flesh and blood?” he asked and then answered his own question “then again you did kill your own mother, so it shouldn’t surprise me that your sister would be next.”
“Your smugness,” I said, determination etched on my face “and the contacts you have. You’ve hidden her, haven’t you? That’s why you’re taking such pleasure in this discussion. Because you know something we don’t and it’s an advantage. You want us to order you to tell us or make you, you son of a bitch.”
His teeth gleamed as he gave me a mocking smile “Well you are certainly very astute Miss Blair” he drawled “but right now you’re just working on a hunch. Your hatred for your sister is evident by the look on your face, but have you ever wondered why your sister hates you so much? Why Brynn despises your very existence? Do you think it’s merely because she perceives you as weak” he asked mockingly.
“She doesn’t know we’re sisters” I snarled, certain that was the truth “My so-called mother never told her.”
Luna Bianca would never want to admit the truth about me, especially not to her favorite child. It would have caused Brynn to look at her mother differently and my mother would have hated that.
He regarded me silently “You know, sometimes I do see some slight aspects of Bianca in you. The way you glare at me, the stubbornness, even the gleam in your eyes, looks just like her” he marveled.
“I am nothing like her” I shouted indignantly, “I’m not a psycho b***h like she was.”
He chuckled. Braedon tried to move me back. “Enough Blair,” he said sharply “he’s trying to get to you. He wants you to lose control. He’s deliberately provoking you. Don’t let him get to your head. Calm down” Braedon urged, staring me in the eyes.
I bit my lip. David stepped back a few feet. His eyes danced with amusement. His hand subtly went towards his pocket. “This has been an interesting discussion, but Alpha King,” he said, now looking at a grim-faced Braedon “what is to be my punishment? Have you decided yet? You’ve never struck me as a man who’s been indecisive in his entire life. Don’t tell me you’re about to start now?” he taunted.
I growled, wishing I could tear his head off as he insulted my mate right to his face. This man was either brave or stupid. Privately I thought he was a mixture of both.
“I have a fair idea of what I’m going to do to you” Braedon growled with a menacing expression on his face.
“Where is Brynn?” I said again, giving him a way to redeem himself, and David smiled, withdrawing something from his pocket and placing it directly into his mouth.
“Braedon” I shouted, pointing at him “Braedon, he’s taken something.”
“s**t” he swore, as David gave us a sickening grin, foam beginning to froth at his mouth.
He struggled to get the cell door open. I rushed inside as Braedon tried to hold me back. David’s body dropped to the ground, convulsing violently. I gripped the side of his head, trying to keep it still. He laughed turning his head and spitting out blood.
“I’m going to be with my love” he whispered, as his chest began to slow its breathing “screw you and screw the Alpha King. I hope she finds you and I hope she kills the two of you. I hope that baby inside of you is torn from your body while your heart still beats and you’re there to see it.”
“Bastard” I hissed, as I released his head, his eyes beginning to dim “Are you so filled with hatred that you would choose death instead of doling out important information?”
“Go to hell” David coughed, wheezing. His body stopped moving, his eyes went blank and the light disappeared from his eyes. I thumped the floor next to his body as Braedon knelt down, checking his neck for a pulse and then shaking his head in resignation.
“He’s gone,” he told me, as I stared blankly at the dead body “There’s nothing more we can do for him. It was a merciful death, considering what might have been in store for him” his tone was aggrieved.
“Just like that, he ended his life,” I said, allowing Braedon to help me back to his feet, while James motioned us back out of the cell “do you think he loved her so much, that he couldn’t bear to live without her?” My tone was filled with wonder.
“I think he was so obsessed with her, that he was afraid to live without her. He was a recluse remember? Bianca must have twisted his mind so badly, that he must have thought he would never find anyone else to love him” Braedon said with a hint of sadness “It’s a shame that he took his life, but perhaps it’s for the best. It’s a shame that we still have yet to find Brynn” he added with an exhale, as we paused outside the cell, “but we’ll locate her in time.”
I nodded tiredly. James shut the cell door and gave a huge sigh. “I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think I’ve had enough of this pack to last me a lifetime.”
Braedon nodded his agreement “I have no desire to remain here either. David was the last reason for staying and well” he paused and looked back at the cell “There’s no longer a reason to remain” he said tactfully.
“I would love to see Sierra and Josie,” I said quietly, feeling like I needed my friends around me “but is everything wrapped up around this pack? You don’t need to ensure that the new Alpha is settling in?”
My tone was hopeful. Braedon laughed “No, I’ll leave some men here to keep an eye on things, but I think that going home would be the best way for us to recover. Sarah is no doubt wishing the same” he added, looking meaningfully at James who was nodding in agreement. “Besides, I want to visit a special spot on the way back. It would mean a lot for me if you came.”
“Oh,” I said in surprise “where is it we’re going?” I asked as we began to head slowly upstairs, James in front of us.
Braedon looked a little hesitant, his eyes dark and filled with a sadness so strong that it brought me to the brink of tears. “To visit my mother’s grave,” he said and I felt his hand envelop mine and squeeze it, as his jaw clenched and he stared straight ahead, the silence suddenly deafening.
