Following the mini map on the watch Huey soon arrived at the second year's male dorm building. Unlike the usual palace-like style that dominated the academy grounds, the dorms were built like a renaissance palazzo.
A rectangular shape, symmetrical layout of windows, detailed stone and marble carvings, and a grand front door. The brick roads leading to it were adeptly paved, and the flora surrounding the building was beautiful and organized.
The interior looked like a luxury hotel lobby, even smelled like it too. Oddly shaped beautiful chandeliers illuminated the space, a lounge, abstract designed carpets, painted ceiling, and an imperial staircase which led to the other floors.
Overall, it was well maintained and worthy of the academy's prestige.
'It says I have room 211.'
Walking down the carpeted hallway Huey's eyes were locked on the many number plates. Before long he arrived at the door with his room number engraved above in gold. Right before he was about to enter, he heard a small exclamation.
'Hm?'
Looking down the path he came from was another person, a taller male with silver hair and eyes.
'Sorin?'
✦ ✧
'Is it here?'
Sorin stared at the second year dorm building. He saw a couple students wearing black move in and out of the gates so this must be it.
Quickly going inside, the youth did a quick once over of the lobby before climbing one the stairs.
'Room 212, room 212..'
He walked down the hallway, and stopped when he saw someone else further down. Someone that was quite infamous throughout the academy. A boy with black hair, pale skin, and blood red eyes.
'Huey Astaseul?'
A sound involuntarily leaked out from his lips.
"Ah."
That caught the other's attention. Huey turned his head around, making eye contact. Sorin blinked, expecting some sort of dark overlord energy to seep out of the youth.
Although Huey never directly antagonized him, he never hid his dislike for him either. But instead, contrary to expectations the boy simply gazed at him blankly. Completely expressionless. No glare, no frown, no menacing aura, not even a single ripple.
"..."
"..."
This was awkward. Sorin wasn't sure what to do in this situation. Should he lighten up the atmosphere? Say hi? Ask him to move?
'Come on Sorin, manners.'
Waving his hand he mustered up some enthusiasm and greeted, "Hel-"
Click
BANG
Or at least tried to because the moment he moved his mouth Huey broke eye contact, unlocked the door, went inside, and slammed it.
...
The remaining words died in his throat. Sorin sighed, dropping his arm. It wasn't like he was expecting much from the boy anyways. It was already weird that he wasn't eye killing him. Plus, there's always next time since...
He looked up at Huey's dorm number then his.
"Looks like we're neighbours." He mumbled.
Promptly after he said that a weird muffled noise that sounded suspiciously like screaming and a crash came from behind room 211. If not for his refined senses (and how he's standing right in front of it) he might not have heard it. Sorin grimaced, mildly concerned before hurrying into his room.
However, instead of an empty clean room, it was occupied and messy. How?! It hasn't even been an hour since dorms were open!
He felt a vein bulge just from looking at the state of the room. Randomly placed belongings were strewn everywhere. The only saving grace being his luggage and bed which remained untouched from the other occupant's atrocity. Glaring at his roommate lazing on the sofa, Sorin had half the mind to throw something.
Annoyed, he loomed over the blue haired male and roared.
"Kade!"
✦ ✧
"YAAAA!!!"
"AAAAHH???"
Screamed Kayson and Huey respectively. The latter was still partially stunned at what had transpired. With the pink haired boy pouncing and tackling him to the ground the moment he shut the door.
"Yes! We're roommates!"
"Get off me."
"I'm so excited!"
"Kayson!"
A bit of a scuffle later, the two sat on the sofas civilly.
Huey crossed his legs, "Well we're lucky."
"I know! This is like a one in a hundred chance!" Kayson beamed. So what if they weren't in the same class? This is better.
"Yeah, makes me wonder if it's not just luck.." He narrowed his eyes.
✦ ✧
For an unknown reason Odalia sneezed. Surprising her personal maid.
"Is it the flu?" She wiped her nose with a handkerchief.
Similarly from far away Heiden sniffled, perturbed. He hasn't caught a cold in years, what brought this on?
✦ ✧
Kayson laughed dismissively, "Stop being a skeptic and let's decide who gets the window bed."
"Rock paper scissors best of three?"
"Yes."
A game of rock paper scissors later, Kayson triumphantly laid down by the window bed. Huey shook his head and set up his belongings. By the time the two finished unpacking it was already a quarter past two.
"Alright," Huey stretched. "Wanna go eat lunch?"
Kayson instantly sprung up from his lie down position.
"Obviously."
Laughing at his eccentricities, Huey followed Kayson through the corridors and down the stairs. They moved down the well paved path to the cafeteria better known as Nuno Hall. With lunch hours almost ending Kayson was practically running. Which forced Huey to chase after him at equal speed.
Needless to say it was quite a sight for passersby.
What did the pink haired youth do to make the tyrant himself chase after him? Although it was... odd, they sent a prayer for Kayson nevertheless.
It did not take long for them to reach Nuno Hall. Huey took shallow breaths, partially hunched over.
'Thank you Mr. Joseph.'
He praised the man's lessons in his heart upon only feeling light fatigue. Albeit he cursed them to dust during lesson time they were admittedly very useful.
He looked up to search for his friend who had run off somewhere. The pink hair was relatively easy to spot, and he could see him lining up by the further serving area.
"At least wait for me." He grunted and approached the spot.
Perhaps because it was the later periods of lunch there weren't as many people, but the ones that were there parted from him like Moses and the Red Sea.
Kayson, who was holding a tray filled to the brim with food, looked at him in pity.
"Stop looking at me like that or I'll poke your eyes out." Grabbing a tong he picked out his own food.
"It's ok El even if people avoid you like the plague I'll still be your friend." He clicked his tongue and tried to do a finger gun while still holding the tray.
It didn't work.
"Don't call me that in public." He reprimanded.
"Why not? No one's near us because you uh," Kayson pursed his lips and put on a forced smile. "Scared them away?"
Huey deadpanned, moving to an empty table nearby. Kayson followed, still cluck-clucking on.
"Plus we can just say it derides from the last syllable of Astaseul." He set his tray on an empty table. Plopping down on the chair with shining eyes.
Huey scoffed.
"What nickname comes from the surname? Well if you insist." He shrugged and bit into his meal.
Chew chew
Red eyes peered up at Kayson who's eyes kept twitching.
Chew chew
He frowned.
"What's bugging you this time?" He asked, setting his spoon to the side.
As if that question was the trigger Kayson slammed his fist on the table erupting a loud bang. He groaned and glared at the surrounding people.
"With how everyone's staring at us it's ruining my appetite!" He deliberately complained loudly which caused a couple people to swiftly turn away.
Huey sighed. Right, how could he forget about this?
"It's probably because we're eating together. I mean Kayson wouldn't normally eat with me." And I hardly ever ate at Nuno Hall.
"I doubt people ate with you at all." Kayson joked, sending a menacing look at the people still looking. What's so interesting anyways?
Huey paused before smiling wistfully.
"Well, there was someone."
Nicholas was his lackey, but also the closest thing he could count as a friend. Not quite, but not either. It's complex.
"Oo tell me—"
"Kayson, what are you doing with him?" An unfamiliar voice cut him off.
He scowled and turned to face whoever it was with zero manners.
"What do you—oh, Mathieu."
One of the original Kayson's friends, Mathieu Henrik. He looked like every single mob character with slightly above average looks.
Mathieu crossed his arms. "I'll repeat, what are you doing with him?"
The male looked scornfully at Huey with a mixture of fear. Huey could only commend him for having the courage to talk like that. Doesn't he know of the list of missing people who's offended him? Not like he'll be adding one to it but still.
"Eating with him. What else?" Kayson answered like Mathieu was deranged which nearly made the male scrunch up his face.
Quickly cooling down the youth spoke. "We need to talk outside."
"Why?"
"You'll know after you go with me."
"You can't say it here?"
"No."
"Mrghh."
Kayson moaned and gazed at Huey as if asking for permission. Said boy shrugged and Kayson (after taking one more spoonful) followed Mathieu outside Nuno Hall.
"So what's this about?" He asked, eyeing the trio including Mathieu staring at him as though he was possessed. Which he guesses is true?
"Why are you with Huey Astaseul?!" Someone other than Mathieu talked.
Oh, so this is what it's about.
Kayson sighed. He half expected it but it's still annoying. Geez he at least thought he could give them a chance thanks to the OG Kayson tinted memories. But if the first thing they say to him was asking why he's with Huey and not a simple greeting like proper friends... guess not.
In the first place they weren't actually friends. Kayson might have thought so, but why did none of them visit, write, invite, nor come to any hangouts? It's not like Kayson didn't write to them, quite often in fact, but they either never replied or gave brief answers saying they were busy. Kayson might not have realized, but after filtering through the memories he found out they were just the typical scum leaching off the Nevoid family's power.
He sighed.
Looking at the three fretful individuals he almost scoffed at their patheticness. Neither of them were in his class, and with him being next to Huey renders their usual behaviour a challenging task. Kinda like a repellent, especially with how they buzzed around their opinions vexingly like mosquitoes.
"I'm with him because we're friends." He nonchalantly replied as if it was the most obvious fact in the world. The trio save for Mathieu gawked at him in disbelief.
"Friends? You and him?"
"Yeah, what are you deaf?"
"But didn't you hate him before?"
He winced, "Hate is a strong word, I'd say weary was more accurate." Kayson then suppressed a giggle at seeing their dumbfounded expressions.
"And time changes people, it just so happened we got to know each other over the break. He's not bad."
Mathieu took a couple seconds to collect himself, he shook his head and opened his mouth.
"Regardless, we believe it's in your best interest to distance yourself from him."
Kayson narrowed his eyes, "...Why?"
Someone else spoke this time.
"Because it's dangerous! Him aside, not only will it damage your reputation, that guy has a whole line of enemies."
"Ah I see." He nodded, uninterested.
"Yes so you should—"
"I appreciate your concern, but I'm still staying friends with him." Kayson smiled 'warmly.'
"...What?" Hemoved his mouth but no words came out. Befuddlement gracing his shocked features.
"Didn't you hear what I just said?"
"No, I heard you perfectly loud and clear."
"Then why?"
"Because I want to." He blinked.
"Kayson I don't think you understand how dangerous this is." Mathieu stepped in with a disappointed expression.
"Yes we're saying this for your own good." The third person added on.
Kayson felt his eye twitch.
'These guys seriously like spouting bullshit.'
He folded his arms and jibed, "Is ignoring my letters for my own good too?"
Silence. Kayson watched the gears turn and finally clicking on their faces was quite amusing.
One of them sputtered, "What—are you still caught up about that? We told you we were busy!"
"Really? And yet your mother and mine were happily discussing your family's picnic over by Enson Lake. Emphasizing just how relaxing things were recently."
"I—"
"Stop." Mathieu ordered, effectively hushing everyone. He glared at the other two chastingly before solemnly turning to Kayson.
"If you're so adamant about this.. fine. But don't come crying to us when something happens."
"Sure sure."
Exchanging a couple more petty remarks the trio left. Kayson remained in his spot until they were too far from ear shot to hear their grousing.
He exhaled and loosened his fist. [No violence between students (save for combat courses) allowed on campus grounds] repeating in his mind like a mantra.
He punched the wall behind him.
"My lunch's cold now."
