"How would you feel about being the father of a baby girl?" Ryder's jaw drops and his eyes go back and forth between my stomach and my eyes.
"You're joking," he says, his eyes wide and filled with disbelief. He runs his hand over my stomach and his eyes glaze over.
"Why would I joke about something like this? I'm being serious. Plus you can feel that I already have a small baby bump."
"You're telling me that not only are we having another baby, but that this baby is going to be a girl."
Oh gosh. Here we go again. He's going to keep asking the same question over and over again.
"Yes, Ryder, that's exactly what I'm saying."
"How far along are you?"
"I'm only 3 weeks along."
"So our baby girl should be here in about or 4 months."
"Yes Ryder." His eyes light up and he pulls me closer to him while keeping one hand on my stomach. A few tears leak out of his eyes and I wipe them away.
"He looks so cute when he's happy like this," Annabel purrs. I couldn't agree more. I would love to see him like this all the time, but he usually closes his emotions from everyone but me and Zach.
"Can I name her?" He asks, his eyes filled with hope. I nod my head with a grin on my face.
"Of course you can! As long as I agree with the name." He grins and places a sweet kiss to my forehead.
"So we have a few months before she gets here, right?"
"Yes. We have a few months to get everything ready."
"Good. That gives me more than enough time to finish my project," he says before walking past me. My eyebrows furrow as I watch him walk by. After a few moments, I follow him.
He walks up to a door before sticking his hand in his pocket. He pulls out a key ring from his pocket and he unlocks the door. He turns to me and motions for me to come forward. I walk towards him with a curious look on my face. I don't think I've ever been to this room. I've never even noticed it before.
When I get beside him, he slowly pushes the door open before gently ushering me into the room. The room is pitch black, but my eyes are starting to adjust to it. They don't get too much time to adjust though since Ryder flicks the light on.
At first I'm confused, but then I notice the crib, a changing station and a rocking chair on one side of the room. The walls are painted light purple and black. The ceiling is almost completely black, with the exception of the stars and planets on it. It's like a beautiful, night sky. The floor is covered by a soft carpet. Various stuffed animals are scattered around the room with a few baby bottles and some clothes.
My eyes fill with tears and I turn to Ryder who is rubbing the back of his neck with a shy smile.
"When did this happen?" I manage to question through my shock.
"About a year ago. Zach and I were at the house together while you were out with Emily. Zach kept telling me about one of his friends in school who had a new baby sister. Zach had wished that he had a baby sister too. Him telling me that made me realize how much I wanted a baby girl. This room was just an empty room, so I decided to make it into a nursery in case we had more children. All of the things in here are neutral, but I was hoping that this room would be used for my first baby girl." He says while stroking my stomach softly. I smile at the sincerity in his voice.
"Well I guess both yours and Zach's wish came true."
"You're right, and I couldn't be happier." I can't help but admire all the work he has put into this room.
"Do you think she'll like it?" Ryder asks after a moment of silence.
"Like it? I think she's going to love it! I love it already and it's not even finished."
"Good, because she's going to be spending her entire life here." The smile on my face drops and I turn around to face Ryder. My eyes lock onto his and I can see that he's being completely serious.
"Ryder, I'm not going to let you lock our daughter up in her room for her entire life. That's ridiculous."
"No it's not. I'm just trying to protect her from the dangers of this world. I don't want my baby girl getting hurt."
She's not even born yet and she has him wrapped around her finger. That's so cute.
"Ryder, you need to let her experience life. How is she going to learn things if she doesn't make mistakes?"
"I'll teach her everything she needs to know."
"So you're going to homeschool her?"
"Most likely."
"She's going to need fresh air and sunlight. Being in a room for all that time isn't good."
