"There's a few windows over there. If she wants sun and fresh air, she can just stick her head out the window."
"I can see that he's thought about this for a long time," Alex remarks dryly. I hum my agreement to her statement.
"What about her mate? How is she going to find them if she's always in her room?"
"Her mate will find her when the time is right, but until then, she needs to stay here where I can protect her." I stare at his face for a long time, trying to see what he's thinking.
His eyes look so far away, even though he's only standing a few feet away from me. I walk over to him, but he doesn't show signs that he realizes that I'm here.
"Ryder, you can't protect her from everything," I say softly while placing my hand on his shoulder.
"When you first told me you were pregnant with Zach, it got me thinking. I was really excited to be having a son, but ever since I met you, I've wanted a daughter. I want her to be just like you, but I don't want her to have to go through the things you went through. I want to protect her like I should have protected you. I never want her to be hurt, especially if I have the power to stop it from happening."
"Ryder, she will be ok, alright? Everyone will protect her with their lives, ok? We can't keep her from experiencing her life. She's going to need to learn and experience things on her own. You don't have to abandon her, but you can't always hold her hand." Ryder lets out a frustrated sigh, but he seems to understand what I'm saying.
"Alright. I guess she can be allowed to go outside once a week." I punch him on the shoulder which causes him to chuckle and pull me closer. He places a swift kiss on my lips before placing his lips on my forehead.
"If you try to keep her locked up in her room, there will be severe punishment," I say sternly. Ryder examines my face for a few seconds before nodding his head.
"Fine. She can do whatever she wants to do, as long as she's not by herself." I smile and nod my head.
"Thank you." My smile drops as I watch as he takes a gun out from his pocket. I stare at him in disbelief.
Where did he get that gun from and why does he have it with him?
He puts it in the top drawer of the dresser that's near the crib.
"Well I'll just put this gun in here for emergencies," he states before ushering me out of the room. I shake my head at his antics, but decide to let it go. Whatever makes him happy.
Ryder stares at me with so much adoration, my heart skips a beat.
"I hope you know that you've made me the happiest man on this planet since the day I met you. There isn't a moment that goes by where I forget how lucky I am to have someone like you. I love you so much, Elizabeth. You are everything to me," he admits with a serious look on his face. My bottom lip trembles and I try to stop myself from crying.
"I love you too, Ryder. I'm so glad that you turned out to be my second chance mate. You make me so very happy," I manage to say, my voice thick with emotions. Ryder gives me a huge grin before he picks me up and spins me around.
"I love you my little mate," he murmurs into my ear. I let out a sigh and relax against his chest.
This is the good life.
Carter's POV
I take in a deep breath and I calm down slightly at the familiar smell of the forest. I shift into my wolf form and I start running to clear my mind. I give Anthony, my wolf, control over my body so he can get rid of some of the stress he's been feeling. I enjoy the feeling of the wind running through my fur and the power I feel as my strong wolf sprints around.
Once we get to a secluded part of the woods, my wolf lets out a long and sorrowful howl. I can feel someone pushing against my mind, and I let them in since I already know who it is.
"Do you want some company?" I hear Elizabeth ask me. I can already feel my wolf's pain start to subside at our Luna's soothing voice. He moves to the back of my mind as he gives me control over my body.
My wolf and vampire have both taken a liking to her. She's like family to us and we would protect her with our life.
"No, it's ok Luna. Spend time with your mate and your pup. You don't need to worry about me," I answer in what I hope is a reassuring voice.
"Stay where you are, I'll be there in 5 minutes," she says before leaving my mind. I let out a snort and shake my head.
