Now, I'm just a shell of who I once was.
I hesitantly knock on his door and wait for him to tell me to come in. Once he says I can, I open the door and walk inside. He gestures towards the chair across from him, so I sit down and wait for him to say something.
"Carter, I know this must be a difficult time for you. Those weeks away from Elizabeth were hell, and I can't begin to imagine how it would be if I had to spend a few years away from her. I want to help you find you find your mate. Elizabeth told me about your concerns for finding your mate, and I can see where you are coming from. This is entirely up to you, ok?" I nod my head slowly even though I don't really know what he's talking about.
"I know you're a little confused right now so I'll explain everything. To help you find your mate, Elizabeth and I were thinking of having a party. We would invite all the packs, and you know how much werewolves like to party so everyone would be there. Well they might leave a few people to protect their packs, but most people will be there." I stare at my alpha in shock.
"Are you serious?"
"Of course I'm serious. I don't joke around." Ryder says, almost looking offended that I questioned his words
"But you hate parties!" I can't believe he would do something like that for me. I'm not saying that he's a bad alpha, because he's an amazing alpha, it's just weird that he's doing something this huge for one person.
"I do hate parties, but I'm tired of seeing you sad. You're important to my mate, so that means you're important to me. Besides, I promised I would help you find your mate, and I never break my promises."
"You don't have to do this, alpha." He rolls his eyes at me.
"I know I don't have to do this. I'm doing this because I want to. You deserve to be happy. You've done so much for other people your whole life, and now it's time for you to do something for yourself."
"But I don't even know if she still wants me," I say while looking at the floor.
"She's your mate, she will always want you. You still feel some connection with her, right?"
"Yeah, I can still feel our connection. I just wish I could mindlink her or use the connection to find her."
"Since you can still feel the connection, that means that she's still alive." He's right! Even though I can't communicate with her, I can still feel our connection. It's not as strong as it was before, but at least it's still there. I'm actually surprised it hasn't vanished completely, but I'm not going to complain.
"But she might be with someone else."
"I highly doubt that, but if she was with someone else, you would have felt it." He's right again, I would have felt it if she was with someone else.
"What if she's not at the party?"
"Then we'll try something else. We will find her sooner or later. Hopefully sooner rather than later."
"You don't know how much I appreciate this," I say sincerely. He looks at me for a few seconds, and I can see his eyes soften slightly and his lips pull up a little in a small smile.
"You don't have to thank me. Now what do you say? Do you want me to have this giant party? Or do you want to do something else?"
"I would like to have the party." Ryder nods his head before he picks up his cell phone.
"Excellent. I'll start planning right away. I'll let you know more information as I get everything together. Since this party is to find your mate, you're going to have a big part in planning it." I nod my head excitedly and bite my bottom lip to keep myself from grinning too much.
"Thank you so much alpha. I will forever be in your debt."
"You're not in my debt. Lets just say we are even. You saved my mate and now I'm helping you find your mate." I nod my head once more before I stand up and head towards the door.
"Goodbye alpha." He dismisses me and it takes everything in me to stop myself from running around the house screaming like a maniac.
I bump into Elizabeth on my way out of their house and she smiles when she sees me.
"I can see that Ryder told you about our plans." I grin in response.
"Thank you Luna." She gives me a soft smile and places her hand on my shoulder.
"You deserve it."
I leave their house feeling much happier than I have been in a long time. Things finally look like they are looking up for me.
Carter's POV
As the date for the ball gets closer and closer, I can't help but feel excited. I thought I would be terrified when I had first agreed, but now I can't wait until the day is here. I still have the nightmares, but my talk with Ryder gave me a lot of hope. My mate is still alive, and she hasn't been with anyone else. The amount of joy I get when I think of that overshadows any nightmares I have.
