"Guys! Look over here! Look at what I can do! I can make snow angels!" He yells.
"Wow Zach, that's awesome! Why don't you try making a snowman?" Zachs eyes brighten and he jumps up before dusting himself off. After that, he immediately starts working on the base for his snowman.
"So how are you?" Elizabeth asks while rubbing her stomach. I shrug and rub the back of my neck.
"I'm a little nervous. I just don't know what to expect, and it's making me anxious."
"Hey, don't worry, alright? Things will work out like they are supposed to. You can't think negatively, you have to be positive.
"I'm trying, but it's really hard. I want everything to be perfect." I can feel myself getting more and more anxious with every second that goes by.
"Look, don't stress yourself out. Take a few deep breaths and just relax. We've all put a lot of work into this party. The main thing is for everyone to have a good time," Elizabeth says while placing a hand on my shoulder. My shoulders slump and I feel myself calm down.
"Thank you Luna. I really needed that," I confess with a grateful smile.
"Just call me Elizabeth. There's no need to call me Luna. I feel like we've had this conversation before," she answers with a teasing smile. I grin and turn back to see that some of the pack children have joined Zach in the snow. We're not far from the pack house so they probably saw us and decided to join. I also see some parents around playing with the kids.
"You should probably go and check on everything," Elizabeth says, breaking the peaceful silence that we had.
"I can't just leave you alone," I say. Elizabeth rolls her eyes and gestures to the people around us.
"I'm not alone, and I can see Jake and Ryder making their way over here right now. Go ahead and check everything before you go to get ready." I nod my head and stand up.
"Contact me if you need anything. You know how to reach me," I state before I start walking to the pack house.
After checking the decorations and helping with some last minute touches, I stand in the middle of the room with a thoughtful expression.
Everything is perfect, but I can't help but feel like something is off. It has nothing to do with the decorations, it's just a weird feeling I have about this party. I can't tell if it's a good or bad thing yet. I'll make sure to be on the lookout tonight and I'll ask Ryder and Elizabeth to be on the lookout too.
"Carter, you can go get ready now. We have everything under control," one of the workers says to me.
"Are you sure? I can stay for a little longer if you need help." By the looks of things, I know that they don't need any help. Everything is already set up. They just have to bring the food and drinks in here and we will be all set for the other packs.
"Yes, I'm sure. Go on, get ready." I sigh and run a hand through my hair.
I guess this is it. It's really happening and there's no going back. I feel a gentle nudge in my brain so I open my link.
"Remember what I said, ok? Everything is going to work out the way it's supposed to," I hear Elizabeth whisper to me. I nod my head slightly even though she can't see me.
I glance at the room one more time before I leave to go change. I can't believe that today is the day that could change my life forever.
Carter's POV
The party has already started, but here I am, pacing in my room with a worried frown on my face. Something about tonight doesn't seem right. I just don't feel up to this party anymore.
I shove those feelings aside and head towards the pack house. As I walk, I can see different cars lined up from different packs.
I can see a lot of werewolves around the house, but the one person that I wish to see isn't here. I continue walking, hoping that she will be somewhere around here.
I walk into the room, and I'm glad that everyone was too busy to notice my arrival. I take in a deep breath hoping to smell my mates sweet scent, but I can't smell anything. I try to keep the disappointment off my face as I make eye contact with Elizabeth. She gives me an encouraging smile before turning back to her conversation with Emily.
I walk around, trying to see if I can find me mate, but I get more and more restless as more time passes by.
She's not here.
I haven't felt the pull at all. I would have felt it by now if she was here. I growl lowly before I walk towards the food.
Maybe I can eat my sorrows away.
I shove some of the crackers in my mouth before I swallow them. I glance around the room with a bored expression.
