"Why don't you go play with your toys, ok? I'll take care of Taylor alright?"
"Ok mommy. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt Taylor," he whispers. I brush his hair back again and nod my head.
"I know, now go play!" He runs off towards his room and I walk over to Taylor's crib. She just turned 1 recently and she has all of us wrapped around her little pinky.
She stares at me as I walk closer to her. I give her a smile and she returns it with a huge grin. She starts bouncing up and down while holding onto the edge of her playpen.
"Ma! Ma!" She giggles as she yells and I laugh with her. I pick her up from the playpen and place her on my hip.
"How's my little baby doing?"
"Ma!" She yells as she starts tugging on my hair. I wince before carefully removing her hands from my hair.
"Don't pull mommy's hair. That's not nice." She just giggles before clapping her hands.
I press a kiss to her cheek and she giggles again.
"Now give mommy a kiss." She leans forward and slobbers all over my cheek. My nose scrunches up and I pull her away from me.
"Not like that!" I walk to the kitchen and grab a napkin and wipe my cheek with one and while the other holds Taylor against my hip. I hear the door open and close, and I know Ryder just got home. I know Zach heard the door too since I hear his little footsteps against the hardwood floor.
"Dad! Dad!" I hear Zach and Ryder start talking to each other and Taylor just stares at me, not understanding what's going on. I laugh at her confused face before I throw the napkin out and walk towards the front door.
When she sees Ryder, she starts reaching out for him and yelling random things. Zach is standing right next to his dad and I'm reminded how similar they look. Ryder's eyes light up when he sees Taylor squirming in my arms, trying to get closer to him.
Ryder takes her from my arms and presses a kiss to her cheek. She giggles before leaning towards his cheek. I watch in amusement as she slobbers all over his cheek too. He grimaces and I bit my bottom lip to keep myself from laughing at him.
"Do you think this is funny?" I shrug before nodding my head.
"Yes actually, I do think it's funny." He scowls at me and I laugh at him. I turn to Zach who has a small smile on his face.
"C'mon Zach. Why don't you help me with lunch." He nods his head eagerly before grabbing my hand and pulling me to the kitchen.
Ryder comes into the kitchen a few minutes later, his cheek dry. He places Taylor in her high chair before coming closer to me.
"I got a greeting from both of my children, but none from my mate. I think there's something wrong with that."
"Did you really think I was going to kiss you when your cheek was dripping with saliva?" I ask with an arched eyebrow. He shrugs before pushing me against the sink.
"Well there's nothing on my cheek now," he says as he puckers his lips. I glance behind him at a giggling Taylor and Zach, who is making funny faces at her.
"Ryder, there are children in this room," I murmur. He leans in even closer while staring at my lips.
"Don't worry, I'll keep this kiss 'G' rated for the young ones." He winks before leaning down and kissing my lips.
"Mom! Dad! What are you doing? I look away for 2 seconds and then I turn back and see this! I can't let you out of my sight for even a second!" Zach says with a smirk on his face. My face turns bright red and I hide it in Ryder's chest. Ryder laughs before pressing a kiss on the top of my head.
"Sorry son. It won't happen again."
"It better not," Zach mumbles.
I can't believe how much my life has changed in the past few years. I never would've imagined that I would be here, surrounded by so much love, but here I am. The road leading here wasn't the best, or the happiest, but I would do it all over again if it would lead me back to this moment.
Zach wraps his little arms around his baby sister, holding her as close as he can, ready to protect her from anything and my heart completely melts. I know Ryder is thinking the same thing when he rests his head against the top of my head and pulls closer against his chest.
I'll always be grateful for my second chance.
