"I gave Angus three years of my life—every single night."
It wasn't until I got pregnant that he finally caved and promised me forever. Love, devotion, the whole fairy tale.
But before I could even say "yes," everything shattered. The next day, he dragged me to the hospital and coldly demanded I terminate the pregnancy.
"Get rid of it," he ordered. "The only woman I'll ever have a child with is Hallie."
I choked back the hurt, pleading with him to let our baby live. Later, I found out the truth—his first love had returned.
That's when the insults started. He called me disgusting, a desperate leech he couldn't shake loose.
But he forgot one crucial detail—I was never with him for love.
In the spirit fairy realm, we settle debts by fulfilling our benefactor's wishes. A hundred wishes, and my debt would be paid.
Three years with Angus, and I'd already granted ninety-seven. Just three more, and I could finally go home.
"Even if you have that kid, I'll never claim it. It'll just be some fatherless bastard."
This from the man who, just yesterday, had promised me the wedding of the century.
In the OB ward, all pretense dropped. His glare was pure venom. "You are getting rid of it, right?"
I stared, numb, watching how badly he wanted to erase our child—just to run back to her.
My mind flashed to when I first told him I was pregnant. The way his eyes had lit up, how he'd held me like I was everything.
Swallowing the ache, I kept my voice steady.
"Does this count as your ninety-seventh wish?"
So many of his wishes had been the same—just begging me to say "I love you."
I'd once told Angus that after a hundred wishes, I'd leave. But because I wanted to stay, I'd held back on the last few.
Now, he took my words as a slap—a reminder of his betrayal.
"Drop the act," he snapped. "You were always just Hallie's placeholder."
I held his gaze. "So? Does it count?"
"Yes!" he exploded. "I'm begging you—just get rid of it!"
The way he rushed me, like I was some pathetic, clingy mistress, made my chest burn. But I shoved the pain down, turned to the doctor, and said flatly, "Okay."
Angus froze. He hadn't expected me—the woman who'd given him everything—to agree so easily.
Lying on that cold table, I barely felt the needle. But the cramps hit like a knife, curling me into a ball. The physical pain was nothing compared to the betrayal.
Just yesterday, the world thought Angus worshipped me. Now, he stood outside the door, waiting—like he wouldn't rest until he knew our baby was gone.
As I lay there, losing our child, his voice carried through the door. He was talking to Milo.
"Hallie can never find out about this."
"She'd lose it. Besides, she's the only woman I want."
At six months, I could still feel the baby inside me—its tiny life fading. Maybe it was never meant to be.
Angus, if you loved her that much, why marry me at all?
Milo's voice cut in, sharp. "You're really making Alrose abort at six months just because Hallie's back?"
Then, accusing: "You're doing this because you know she loves you. You think you can treat her however you want."
Everyone knew Milo had feelings for me. He'd always wanted to take me away from Angus.
Angus just laughed—cold, cruel. "I only kept her because she looks like Hallie. Alrose stole years from her. This is payback."
"If she's smart, she'll disappear—and never come back."
