I let out a bitter laugh. "How touching. Pouring your heart out just to make me your mistress? Wasn't it you who swore you loved me?"
Angus's shameless groveling turned my stomach. Thank God Milo finally slammed the door in his face.
I never wanted to see him again—not in my final days here. So Milo and I left.
That's when he told me things I never knew.
Turns out, the spirit fairies' leaders didn't arrange our engagement just for an alliance. My clan leader did it because Milo had loved me since we were kids.
Days passed, and Angus never came looking for me.
Then the headlines hit: Angus and Hallie's engagement—tomorrow.
I had no intention of going. But Hallie sent me an invitation.
Milo, ever the instigator, insisted we show up.
When we arrived, Hallie stood by the lake, lazily spinning her engagement ring around her finger.
She smirked. "I heard Angus came crawling back to you." Her voice oozed fake sympathy. "Tell me you're not actually considering being his mistress?"
I met her gaze with a cold smile. "You and Angus? A match made in heaven—trash and a tramp."
Her smirk widened. "You don't actually think he loves you, do you? He only cares because you look a little like me."
She toyed with her ring, eyes gleaming with amusement. "Honestly, I'm curious—how long do you think his so-called love will last? A man like him, pining over a woman who's been with a crime lord?"
She knew exactly what drove Angus's obsession. Not love—just nostalgia, a pathetic grasp at the past.
Then, out of nowhere, she let out a sharp laugh. "Let's see how much he really loves me."
In a flash, Hallie hurled herself into the lake, thrashing and screaming like she was drowning. Angus dove in without hesitation, dragging her back to shore.
Dripping wet, he whirled on me, eyes blazing. "How could you be so cruel? Do you even care that Hallie's pregnant?" His voice shook with rage. "A woman as heartless as you—I wouldn't take you back if you begged."
I watched his panic, his desperation—and laughed. Had he already forgotten who was on his knees yesterday, pleading for me to return?
Milo chuckled beside me, his arm tightening around my waist. "Angus, let's be real—who do you think you are? With your family name, your looks, and your morals, what makes you think Rose would ever pick you?"
I ignored Angus's fury. "Poor Hallie—stuck with a man who plays the devoted lover while sneaking off to beg me to come back."
Angus didn't even glance at me as he rushed Hallie to the hospital.
Once, this would've destroyed me. Now? Not even a flicker of emotion.
"I came today for one reason—to set the record straight."
To clear my name. A hundred favors repaid. Now, it was time to settle the score.
By the lake, Milo held me close as we waited for the guests to arrive. Soon, I'd expose the truth behind that scandalous video. After that? I'd vanish from this world for good.
Milo brushed a loose strand of hair from my forehead. His touch was gentle, but his gaze burned with something deeper.
Three years. Three years trapped in the mortal world. Three years Milo had waited for me.
I met his eyes—steady, unwavering—then wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him.
A light, fleeting touch—like a dragonfly skimming water.
But for Milo, it was the breaking of a dam. The second he realized I'd chosen him, he pulled me in, his embrace fierce, unyielding.
Then his kiss—desperate, hungry, overwhelming. Three years of longing, unleashed in a single breath.
